That is an interesting subplot next year when the new 15,000 attendance rule to keep Division I-A eligibility goes into effect. Here is one other split national champion scenerio: LSU loses the SEC title game, Oregon State upsets USC, and Michigan then moves into the #2 spot in the BCS with two losses against an undefeated Oklahoma team. Michigan edges Oklahoma in a game that could have gone either way and the writers still vote Oklahoma #1 by being the only major school with one loss. That is even more unlikley than the other scenerio as the writes would probably still vote Michigan #1 by beating Oklahoma head-to-head even though they had one more loss.
-
Um he's talking about the Big XII title game which is played outdoors in Kansas City. No only the Coaches poll has to vote the winner of the game #1. The AP poll is under no obligation to vote the winner of the national championship game #1. It is actually possible to get a split national champion even with the BCS although it would have to be a weird set of circumstances for it to happen. Here is what would have to happen: LSU jumps USC for #2 in the final BCS rankings but USC is still ranked #2 in the AP poll. LSU edges Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and USC blows out Michigan in the Rose Bowl. It would be enitrely possible in that scenerio that the writers would vote USC #1 by virtue of blowing out a strong Michigan team and there being no undefeated team in the country. Unlikely but oh what a great thing that would be as the BCS would proven as useless.
-
That's what Brad Edwards, their BCS guy, is saying. LSU will be #3 but Michigan is going to jump Texas for #4 and they will almost jump LSU going by the projections. Again if LSU wins out they'll hold them off and they'll still have an outside shot at jumping USC. Really in the end it will mean nothing but just once again one of those quirky things that happens with the BCS. Here is what is being said on collegebcs.com: Seriously wouldn't we all prefer a tournament than stressing over one, one-hundreth of a point?
-
On the subject of LSU on ESPN they said it will be very close between them and Michigan for the #3 spot. Now if LSU goes out and wins the SEC championship this will all be moot and they will hold off Michigan but just another sign of how imperfect this system is when a two loss team nearly jumps a one loss team.
-
Errr not quite they were just throwing a scenerio out there. Oklahoma would be in danger of falling out of the Sugar Bowl if they lose to Kansas St. and then USC and LSU win out. If either loses though then Oklahoma would still get into the Sugar Bowl most likely. Nothing is guarenteed with this system. At the end of the article it does point out Kansas State would get in as the Big 12 would make sure of it as they should. Speaking of getting screwed out of the BCS, that's what is going to happen next week to West Virginia if Pittsburgh beats Miami. Even though West Virginia beat Pitt, Pitt will get the nod because West Virginia would be ranked more than five spots lower in the BCS than Pitt. What a joke, tie for first in a conference and beat the team your tied with but don't get the BCS berth.
-
Yes but do we need three of them in the same day? I'm not going to win you over since your an SEC fan and believe me I'd rather have the SEC champ over Florida State which might be the other alternative in the Rose Bowl. Personally I think they should move the Outback Bowl off January 1st as it doesn't have the same tradition as the other games that day and again you already get a more prestigious SEC/Big Ten match-up in the bowl formerly known as the Citrus Bowl. Should add now with Washington St. gone, Ohio State probably slips back into a BCS bowl as an at-large.
-
Well Washington State just fucked everything up beyond solving the Holiday Bowl picture that everyone is talking about. The Fiesta Bowl will have first pick this year (at least that's what I've heard but you can never know with the BCS) and they'd probably take Texas, assuming they don't blow their game against A&M, and then Rose Bowl will pick 2nd to fill USC's open spot, assuming they are in the Sugar Bowl. My guess at this point is they'll take the SEC champ now. Gee great never see a Big Ten/SEC match-up on January 1st.
-
*resists urge to go on 5 page rant about the BCS ruining the Rose Bowl* In any event...the Rose Bowl is always tied to the Pac-10 and Big Ten except in year's they host the national championship. Michigan will go the Rose Bowl automatically now barring an armaggedon scenerio where USC and LSU both lose and you get a two loss team in the Sugar Bowl. The Rose Bowl is all about tradition but the Orange Bowl fucked them over last year by taking Iowa instead of allowing them to take Ohio State's spot (since they were playing for the national championship) and have the Big Ten represented in the Rose Bowl. This year the Rose Bowl will take Washington State, assuming USC is in the Sugar Bowl...well unless they blow against Washington which they appear they might do... FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK...Wazzu blows it. No Pac-10/Big Ten match-up in the Rose bowl for a THIRD straight year. FUCK THE BCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun in the Holiday Bowl losers.

The Marlins offer is probably too low, but Pudge is definately expecting too much here. Five years? I guess it never hurts to ask but no one is going to give him a five-year deal as I doubt he gets more than three years. Hell by Spring Training you might be able to count on one hand how many players get five year or more contracts this offseason. Teams are just way more cautious about giving long term deals in today's market.
-
Well Clemson/South Carolina has no effect on Maryland because its a non-conference game. As long as Maryland avoids an upset to Wake Forest next week, they are going to the Gator Bowl. Even if they lost next they'd finish in a tie for 2nd with Clemson and they beat Clemson so they'd probably still get the nod although the Gator Bowl wouldn't be under any obligation to take Maryland over Clemson. Anyways...you can pencil Maryland into the Gator Bowl.

Score of the Day: Utah 3, BYU 0 Final Woof. Speaking of woof looks like Stanford is going to lose to Cal. God damnit never lost to Cal with Tyrone Willingham as coach and now 0-2 with Buddy Teevens. *goes to start firebuddyteevens.com*

Being reported by espn.com.

The Citrus Bowl is the Capital One Bowl. The name "The Citrus Bowl" no longer exsists as of last year. That's why I referred to it as the Corporate Whore Bowl. USC scores a touchdown on a fumble in the endzone, UCLA then blocks the extra point and returns it to make the score 30 to 2.
-
Actually OSU has no guarentee of a BCS bowl. If Texas moves up to #4 in the BCS they automatically get an at-large berth and if Washington St. wins today the Rose Bowl is going to take them as they want a Pac-10/Big Ten match-up, assuming USC wins out and goes to the Sugar Bowl. That would then put Ohio St. in the Corporate Whore Bowl, I mean Capital One Bowl.
-
USC is already up 21-0 on UCLA. STANFORD~ is beating Cal 10-0.
-
Let's see Pac-10 in the national championship game barring an upset and if Washington St. wins the Apple Cup today then still likley going to get a Pac-10/Big Ten match-up in the Rose Bowl. Oh and OHHHio State is back to being Ohio State. They jobbed clean today.

Yes he thinks of himself as some sort of insider when he just finds all this shit online like the rest of us. Speaking of inside news, I got shit for all of you that only I know about...well okay its just the stolen notes from today's MLB.com's Hot Stove Report. I wasn't bothering this week with them since there were actually moves being made this week but figured I'd do one now before the thread turns ugly. Anything already mentioned on the board or mentioned last week I'll leave out. -Tigers are interested in Garrett Stephenson. -Juan Gonzalez apparantly might want to play for the Devil Rays. -George Steinbrenner's offseason plan: sign Andy Pettite, Gary Sheffiled, and Kaz Matsui; trade Nick Johnson for Javier Vazquez or Curt Schilling; move Alfonso Soriano to left field, Hideki Matsui to center, and Bernie Williams to DH. -Yankees have met with Japanese all-time save leader Shingo Takatsu. -To no surprise the Red Sox aren't really interested in Andy Pettite. -Royals might pursue Todd Walker and move him to 3rd if they can't re-sign Joe Randa. -Gary Sheffield is reportedly seeking a three-year, $36 million deal. -Rockies might pursue Mark McLemore or Adam Kennedy, if he's not tendered a deal by the Angels.

Cardinals trade Tampa native Martinez to Devil Rays Yes so if there is a buyout then that means it has to be a team option but hey I wouldn't want to disprove anyone.
-
What the hell? Disproving you? Wow get a grip.
-
No it was stupid to trade for Antwan Walker thus leaving Jamison without a starting spot. Jamison is hardly cheap as he had signed the league maximum deal with the Warriors a couple of years ago. How ironic for Jamison to end up with the team that drafted him to be a teammate once again with the player he was traded for, Vince Carter. The Mavericks despeterately need a tough guy in the middle who doesn't need to score and Antonio Davis isn't a bad pick up, if the trade happens.
-
Should add to the Martinez deal that I didn't realize Travis Lee was a free agent. Oh and Martinez will make $7.5 million this year so the D-Rays are only paying 500k this year to play for them but he does have an $8 million option for 2005. Not sure if its a team or player option.
