    The Official MLB Offseason Topic

My guess is the'll have Tino Martinez DH as last year their DH's were Al Martin and Ben Grieve so they could use a better bat there. Travis Lee is good defensively at 1st so no real point in moving him. Should correct what Plunderin said as Martinez is a free agent after next year so the Devil Rays aren't on the hook for any money after this season. $1.5 million for him to DH might not be that bad of a deal as he could still hit 20+ homeruns if he stays healthy.

Say hello to the GMAC Bowl, TCU. I could never get really excited about their BCS prospects because I never thought they were even the best non-BCS conference team and they proved it tonight.

  10. What do I least like about Sportscenter? How about everything now. Its has become completely unwatchable on almost every level. What is even the point of the 6:30 EST/3:30 PST Sportscenter now? Anyone? Stuart Scott still having a job obviously makes it even worse. Come on your telling me he brings in the "urban demographic" just because he's black? The guy comes off a complete dork to me and has about as much street cred as Beano Cook. The guy is also the biggest ass kisser of athletes, next to Chris Berman. Also its mainly a little thing and I don't know if anyone else cares but I'm so annoyed that when they show highlights now, at the end of the highlight they only flash the score in the corner of the screen and don't put up the screen where they show the and stats and little facts about the game like they used to. Its a little thing but it really makes a huge a difference for me.

As the official A's spokesman here, the A's have no intention of signing Tejada. They will go with Bobby Crosby and hope he lives up to the hype. The trades yesterday were to make sure they can re-sign Keith Foulke who has been their top priority over Tejada. Hey Al you need to speak to my fellow A's fans. I'm expecting a them to march with torches to Billy Beane's office today.

    smackdown (non spoiler)

Velocity Paul London vs. Nunzio Ultimo Dragon vs. Sean O'Haire Funaki vs. Chuck Palumbo Scotty 2 Hotty vs. Rhyno Smackdown Rey Mysterio vs. Akio Shannon Moore vs. Matt Morgan Bradshaw vs. A-Train Chris Benoit vs. Nathan Jones Jamie Noble vs. Tajiri Los Guerreros vs. World's Greatest Tag Team John Cena vs. Big Show
  13. I'm guessing the first two matches listed as Velocity are dark matches. Velocity: Orlando Jordan beat Kanyon in 6:12 Jeremy Lopez beat Masada in 4:42 Nunzio w/ Stamboli beat Paul London w/ Spanky in 6:49 Sean O’Haire beat Ultimo Dragon in 4:52 Chuck Palumbo beat Funaki in 5:47 Scotty 2 Hotty w/ Rikishi beat Rhyno in 5:06 Smackdown: -Vince comes out with a cast and crutches, plus stitches selling his SS match vs. Undertaker. He also comes out with Sable. Vince goes on about how UT beat him, yet an angel (Kane) from his higher power came to save the day. To thank him, Vince has invited Kane to be a special guest to deliver his brother’s “eulogy.”John Cena comes out, and dices Vince on the microphone. Cena was over. -Backstage, Brock berates the rest of his SS team for making him tap. He says that they can make it up to him tonight, and he states that Nathan Jones will face Benoit and that he will be in Jones’ corner, and that Big Show will go against John Cena, thanks to Brock’s talking with Paul Heyman before the show. Good promo by Lesnar. -Rey Mysterio beat Akio with the 619-springboard huricanrana in 6:53 -Backstage, Paul Heyman is looking for Shannon Moore. He asks a guy reading the new Smackdown magazine if he had seen Moore. The guy had not. Behind one wall, he finds Shaniqua beating the Bashams dominatrix style…as a celebration of their SS win over the Guerreros. Heyman finds Moore, and tells him that he is not mad at him for Matt Hardy’s defection to Raw. Rather, he is going to make Moore a star…..against Matt Morgan next. -Matt Morgan beat Shannon Moore in 2:54 with a sit-down powerbomb. -A Train beat Bradshaw with the mule kick in 5:52 -Brock Lesnar comes to the ring to second Nathan Jones in his match vs. Benoit. Lesnar receives huge “you tapped out” chants. -Chris Benoit beat Nathan Jones with the crippler crossface in 5:59 Postmatch saw Benoit get beaten down by Lesnar, to be saved by Hardcore Holly. Holly is then thrown in jail and indefinitely suspended by Heyman. -Kane comes out to give his brother the eulogy promised by Vince earlier. This segment was hot in the beginning, but died near the end. Basically, Kane said the brother he knew died a long time ago, and this compassionate helpful Undertaker was a fraud of a man. -Tajiri beat Jamie Knoble in 4:49 with a roll-up made possible by Noble being distracted by a blind Nidia walking down to ringside with a cane. -Backstage, the World’s Greatest Tag Team tells Heyman how bad they want the Guerrero’s, and what they are going to do to them. -Guerreros beat WGTT in 3:57 with an Eddy frog splash. Postmatch saw WGTT attack Chavo’s leg with a chair, putting the leg in between the chair, and using the chair as a sort of modified toe hold. Eddy couldn’t save at first, and then got the chair to make the save. They teased tension again between Eddy and Chavo Cat Video aired. He’s coming next Thursday. -recap Eddy-Chavo in the ring moments ago. Cut to backstage, where Chavo is berating Eddy for his mistakes and miscues the past few weeks. Eddy tries to talk to Chavo but Chavo has none of it. When the trainer refuses to give Chavo a shot for the leg pain, Chavo mutters something about hanging with his “real friends.” -John Cena beat Big Show non-title in 11:04 with a steel steps shot to the head. They did another step shot again, possibly as a re-tape for editing later.

Eric Byrnes had a .333 obp so he lead their outfielders. I'm tempted to give you the link to the A's message board I visit because I'm half expecting a mass suicide pretty soon. They are just tearing these trades a new one, even the Lilly deal.

Yup he's valuable all right...so valuable his team thinks they need to trade him if they are going to get better.

Errr I haven't heard anyone say anything about the Jeremy Brown all season so I think they've cooled on him. He certainly won't be ready next year. I think they are high on late bloomer Adam Melhuse who did hit well in his limited action but its a big risk to take to give the starting catching job to a 31 year old, career minor leaguer. I've actually relaxed a little and took a step back and don't hate the Padre trade nearly as much as I did this morning. Still not thrilled by it and can only hope Kotsay and Hernandez return to the 2002 numbers which as in much better for Kotsay and much worse for Hernandez.

Yes and that's why I said Lilly was expendable just was hoping for someone like J.D. Drew and not Bobby Kielty but again Beane looooooves guys who can walk even if they can't hit. The A's also have a guy named Joe Blanton in the minors who is the next stud pitcher they have coming up some time next season. Duchscherer is a marginal pitching prospect and looked decent when they called him up for a few late season starts last year. He'll probably compete for the 5th spot in spring with whatever cheap, veteran free agent pitcher they pick up.

Again another player he had a hard on for. I have no problem dealing Lilly because he is expendable and I fully expected him to be traded this offseason for a bat was just hoping it'd be someone better than Bobby Kielty. Oh well.

Yes if you aren't a diehard A's fan it is hard to explain. I've been a 100% Beane supporter but there is a group of A's fans who are not happy with Beane for about a year now. A lot of it had to do with how he handled the Art Howe situation and force his won guy Ken Macha into the manager position. Beane has a very big ego which you would pick up on from reading Moneyball and I think it has rubbed many fans the wrong way. This deal is an example of him being so hard up for a player that he'll do anything to get him and he loved Kotsay. Same thing with Erubiel Durazo although in that case they didn't give up anything of note to get him but he didn't live up the hype that Beane built him up to be. Myself personally I can't complain too much about Beane because I look at him as the savior of this franchise and if it weren't for the moves he made in 1999 and 2000 this team might not even be in Oakland anymore. The A's winning and drawing strong crowds (no matter what outsiders say) are the only thing keeping owner Steve Schott from moving the A's out of Oakland and the Bay Area all together, something Bud Selig and his BUTT buddy by the bay, Giants' owner Peter Magowan, want very much. Okay went off on a tangent there but anyways back to the trade it is very questionable move in my view. Kotsay's numbers were not good at all last year and he has had back problems. A catcher like Hernandez is much harder to find than an outfielder like Kotsay. On top of that the A's benefit very little financially from the deal so it doesn't help them that much in signing free agents. Beane's track record is excellent but this past year the luster has worn off a bit.

Are you kidding me? I know he's not Jorge Posada but that's a subpar season for a catcher? Wow. Ramon had a great year trust me and he's excellent at handling the pitching staff. The Big Three won't be happy at all about trading Ramon trust me on that. Kotsay also has back problems which have to be a concern and the A's don't have anyone ready to step in at catcher except maybe Adam Melhuse but that's doubtful and the A's won't spend the money to get someone like Ivan Rodriguez. I will grant you this about how Ramon really didn't do much offensively before this season so there is a chance that this past season was a fluke. Should be noted the trade still isn't official and Padres' GM Kevin Towers said something about details still being hammered out. My guess its about money and/or a prospect being also sent to the A's.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Oh please ESPN blubbers all over Bonds any chance they get. Bonds meaningless homeruns get top billing over actually winning games all the time on ESPN. So I suppose its ESPN just making up his association with BALCO?

Already posted this in the Offseason topic. On the A's message board I visit about 90% of us are pissed right now and I'd count myself as one of them. Getting rid of Long was not worth giving up Ramon to only get a light hitting outfielder. Beane has always had a hard on for Kotsay and I'm afraid his ego got the best of him in this deal.
