  1. Yes there is a statement out by his wife saying that he is guilty of adultry. Oh and a statement out just now from Kobe saying he did cheat on his wife.
  2. Well one thing to remember his clean cut image is hurt just by the simple of fact of that he did cheat on his wife. Not that its uncommon and almost expected in pro sports but Kobe is held to a higher standard. I absolutely hate Kobe Bryant but I can't really take any joy in this.
  3. Well no matter what this will not be resolved by the time the NBA season starts and it will be interesting to see how the NBA handles this. I'm already dreading the wall-to-wall endless coverage by ESPN of this.

    Griffey done for season

Well Griffey for a an extended length of time was the best player in the game and still might end up in the HOF. I think a better example of players who were at the top of the game for a short period of time, like a year or two, but then quickly fell from the top like a Jose Canseco.
  5. Comiskey Park? Hello? Shea Stadium and the Metrodome.
  6. Oh you are 100% right. Believe me as an A's fan I know the blackmail game too well as in late '99 when the annonymous owner in Sports Illustrated first brought up contraction the A's were one of the teams that were brought up. For those who don't know the owner was Peter Magown of Giants. Gee wonder why he'd want the A's gone the rat bastard.

    Griffey done for season

Time to retire. A lesson to all those who hype the likes of Dontrelle Willis when he's barely started his career. Here's a guy in Griffey who just four years ago was on his way to being declared the best player ever and now he's borderline HOF due to injuries.
  8. You can't subtract one team. Besides, its not needed. The Expos are a good team. And Bud already screwed up contraction already so don't expect to come around again anytime soon. If he hadn't gone after the Twins and instead went after the Marlins or Devil Rays to go along with the Expos it might have happened, with some sort of expansion of the rosters to please the union.
  9. Hell, sometimes I'm contradictory on stuff I agree on. Good points, but imagine what happened when Ruth started hitting. The home run record went from 27, to 29, to 54, to 59 in the space of four years. In the last few years, the record was broke twice. Drastic, but it happens. I do thinks Bonds' record will stand quite a while, so it'll return to normal. As for Vlad, I don't recall anyone hitting 80 home runs at any level. You'd think with all the different parks you see in the minors, it would've happened by now. I don't think any park could hand a hitter 30 extra home runs. Ya I'd have to look it up but several of the lower level minor leagues are shorter seasons than the majors. If you really think about it though if a guy is hitting that many homeruns in the minors he'd be called up to the majors pretty quick before he even reached 50. Good point about Ruth and in 1920 they did change the balls and that's what caused a huge increase in homers in the 20's but Ruth was hitting more homeruns by himself than some teams back then. Ruth is bascially in a class by himself...no matter what Barry Bonds says.
  10. Hey good point...how about Jose Vidro hitting 80 homeruns? Okay maybe not.
  11. How is the record a joke? *sigh* I sometimes think you just challenge me for the hell of it but what the hell and I when I typed that I immediately thought you would challenge me on it. You see Babe Ruth hits 60 homeruns in 1927 and it stands for 34 years. Roger Maris hits 61 homeruns in 1961 and it stand for 37 years. Then comes 1998. McGwire & Sosa. It was great, every moment of it. Then comes 1999...and the both hit over 61 homeruns again which takes away they specialness and the once in a lifetime type season that it was built as. Then comes 2001 and Barry Bonds hit 73 homeruns just three years after record is broken. Now again this is definently personal opinion but who really cared? Definently not as many people as they did in 1998. Now it could partly be attributed to that Bonds does rub people the wrong way and he does it make it tough to root for him but it definently had to do with that it had just been three years that we went through the chase for the record. There is a reason why whenever someone gets a meager 25 game hitting streak that everyone starts bringing up DiMaggio and the 56 game hitting streak and that is because it has stood the test of time and is a truly special record and it will be an amazing moment when and if it is ever broken. The homerun record no longer has that magical feel to it. 61 meant something...73 doesn't really doesn't mean a damn thing unless it stands the test of a generation or two of sluggers. "Joke" may have been too strong of a word but really the single season homerun record isn't what it once was and Vladimir Guerrero hitting 80 homeruns in a minor league park wouldn't help things.
  12. Never in a million years will there be a MLB team in Vegas. Here's a crazy idea...move them to Brooklyn. Oh and on the subject of why it would be a bad idea for them to play all their games in Puerto Rico next year is with that stadium Valdimir Guerrero (if healthy) could hit 80 homeruns and the single season homerun record has become enough of a joke.

  14. Not so bold prediction: Neither Central division champ will be in the World Series. In fact its only happened twice since they went to the six division format, Indians in '95 and '97.

    The official ESPY thread

This has to be the most pointless award show ever made. In movies the Oscar is the highest honor and in t.v. the Emmy is the highest honor but what athlete really gives a shit if they win an ESPY? I don't think you'll ever hear a player say, "well I didn't win the MVP but I won the ESPY and that is what counts!" Also the only thing that even made the ESPYs worth while when they first started doing it was they'd have people vote on the plays of the year in each sport and they got rid of it! All they have now is the play of the year and three of them are completely pointless (Kobe and LeBron dunks and Bonds homerun).
  16. The Garret Anderson underrated crap is just typical "if it doesn't happen in New York we don't care" bullshit from the media. No one who watches baseball with any frequency or at least watches Baseball Tonight doesn't know about Garret Anderson. But the media thinks we don't know about him because *gasp* he plays all the way out in California and NO ONE lives in California. Um wait huh?

One and Only ALL STAR GAME thread

Actually his contract runs out on December 31, 2005 and that's when he says he'lls step down so still a ways to go before he's gone unfortunently. Oh and the next commisoner will either be Sandy Alderson who's just been a Selig flunky but did take the umpires down a notch or just another owner...I'm thinking probably Selig friend's Jerry Reinsdorf or Peter Magowan.

One and Only ALL STAR GAME thread

You know what no one (I think) has mentioned and no one mentioned last night on Fox or ESPN was that Dontrelle Willis, the savior of baseball for black people of America, didn't pitch. Shouldn't there be a national outrage over this? I mean HE HAD TO BE THERE and is the greatest thing since slice bread and is going to save baseball all by himself! Yes I know he was unavailable but still made me laugh at all the hype over him and even Fox hyping with Clemens on the beginning of the game and the guy didn't even pitch. Poor kid...hopefully he don't flame out in the 2nd half of the season. Hey since he was unavailable shouldn't he have been replaced like Zito was? Oh and did you hear the HUGE five minute standing ovation Clemens got? I mean the media kept telling me the fans wanted him there and they ended up not caring. How...unsurprising. Oh and even though I'm an A's fan I was hoping for an N.L. blow out win to make the "this time it counts" crap (didn't Joe Buck seem REALLY uncomfortable at the opening having to force it in three or four times? Its the "ruthless agression" for MLB.) becomes pointless because the N.L. would have hosted anyways and then everyone would have turned the game off by the end. Unfortunently now Selig gets to pat himself on the back and have a cookie and talk about how he saved the game. Bleh.

Clemens added to All Star Game

Ummm since when did every year you get a common left, center, and right fielder voted as starters? Funny I just saw the '94 game on ESPN Classic last night and Tony Gwynn started in center. They pointed out how Gwynn hadn't played center in over five years. Also just last year Vladimir Guerrero started in center for the N.L....he'd played TWO games in center previously in his career! Two years ago Luis Gonzalez started in center for the N.L. despite only playing nine games in center in his career and none in three years. Almost every year this happens and you can't just go and change the rules at the drop of a hat. Bonds was voted a starting outfielder and he should play in the outfield. Isn't that common sense? It is more about protecting little fragile Bonds and ratings than it is about having someone play out of position in center. But your right its not about the ratings...ITS BECAUSE THIS TIME IT COUNTS BAH GAWD~! God I pray for a tie.

Well no matter what the Dodgers had to add offense. With their pitching it is incredibly hard NOT to make it to the postseason but there offense is about the equal of the Tigers.

Off the subject of Clemens but on the subject of how its all about ratings...how is Dusty Baker allowed to DH Barry Bonds? Of course the theory is he wants Bonds to play the whole game but one problem...he was voted a starting outfielder! Now of course they don't vote the DH spot in the N.L. (and I don't think they should bother with it in the A.L. since anyone can DH) but never before has this been allowed where a player voted in is allowed to DH. Also because of this Baker is allowed to start Jim Edmonds in centerfield giving the N.L. a huge advantage. Now why hasn't Selig and MLB said wait you can't do that? Because of ratings. Fragile Bonds gets to play the whole game now instead of getting dressed and leaving early like he normally does. But this time it counts dag nabbit! What a joke.

    Praise Jesus Discount

From espn.com: Former Cowboy sued over auto repair bill -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Associated Press DALLAS -- Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders is battling an automotive shop over what he says Jesus told him to pay for a repair bill. The owner of the repair shop says Sanders wanted to pay only $1,500 of the $4,265.57 bill, saying that Jesus had informed him that was all he needed to pay. "It's the 'Praise Jesus' discount,'' attorney Ed Edson told The Dallas Morning News in Monday's editions. Edson said he has been trying to collect the bill from Sanders since 2001 on behalf of Phil Compton, the owner of the car repair business. Through court filings, the player says the accusations are untrue. Sanders' attorney, Edmund Gomez, did not return a telephone call early Monday from The Associated Press. The lawsuit was scheduled to go to trial later Monday before state District Judge Joe Cox in Dallas County civil court. Anthony Montoya, a representative for Sanders, had contacted Compton and told him a 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible needed to be towed to his shop for repairs. The car had been repaired before by Compton. Papers filed in his lawsuit stated that he and his mechanics installed a new radiator and thermostat, flushed the engine, repaired the car's electrical system and gauges, replaced the starter motor, removed contaminated fuel and rebuilt the carburetor. Mechanics for Magrathea Inc., Compton's company, had replaced gaskets and hoses. Sanders had approved and Montoya had approved all the repairs, according to the lawsuit. But when the car was returned to the CBS sportscaster's home in Plano on Nov. 5, 2001, Compton said Pilar Sanders, the former Cowboy's wife, "answered the door, took the keys and invoices, started the car to make sure it was working and went back into the locked house, refusing to return the keys or invoices.'' Sanders' bodyguards and housekeepers then moved their cars in front of and behind the Lincoln so that it couldn't be towed back to the garage, the lawsuit stated. When Sanders drove up, he refused to pay the invoice amount, handing Compton a $1,500 check and saying, "Praise Jesus ... I follow what in my heart I'm told to pay."

    Jeromy Burntiz to the Dodgers

For those interested heard a rumor tonight that if the A's can get someone to take Terrence Long off their hands they will deal Aaron Harang and two prospects (Esteban German and Bobby Crosby) to the Pirates for Brian Giles. Getting someone stupid enough to take Long and his contract will be a tough task though.

Clemens added to All Star Game

He's 1st in Ks, and 14th in ERA. The All Star game has 12 pitchers. I don't see how his making the team is such a big problem. I'd safely rank him in the top 12 THIS YEAR. All Star Material. Should Mussina have been picked? Yeah, but bust on Hasegawa, not Clemens. Ya and his teammate Mike Mussina is 2nd in strikeouts, 7th in ERA, and better record than Clemens at 10-6. There again in lies the real problem. It wasn't about Barry Zito's availabilty to pitch it was about getting Clemens on the team in a desperate attmept to boost ratings. The real issues go back to Fox using Bud Selig as their puppet for their ideas like the homefield rule and the on player per team rule that keeps deserving players off. If you didn't have a one player per team rule maybe Clemens makes it legit. In the end I can name five pitchers who deserved to replace Zito over Clemens but its all about ratings and trying perceive what fans want.
