WWE General Discussion - February 2009

-- How about the rain of boos when Erik Watts gets tagged in -- I like how when Missy Hyatt is getting placed up against the limo and patted down, she says, "I'm usually being kissed during this."
-
-- I totally forgot this was the show where Ric Flair returned. -- I would totally love to meet Maxx Payne's "team of representatives". -- Speaking of Maxx Payne, who the hell decided it was a good idea for a demented heel to play the national anthem? How could you boo him after that? -- And holy LOL at them dubbing "American Males" over Marcus Bagwell & Erik Watts entrance. -- Did Jesse accidentally call Schiavone "McMahon" during the beginning of the first match? Schiavone: "But they don't have the belts." Ventura: "Just a matter of time, McMahon."

They definitely did run the Georgia Dome. I was there for the first Raw they did there on October 11, 1999 (main event was Austin/JR vs. HHH/Chyna; Vince Russo's last Raw before going to WCW). WCW ran their last Nitro in the Georgia Dome on July 5, 1999. Besides from Bret Hart's first appearance since Owen Hart's death, it was a truly awful show. It was the one where David Flair was just given the U.S. Title. WCW started using Philips Arena after this show because they killed the Dome dead when they did that fingerpoke. They also did Raws at the Dome in February 2000, July 2000, and February 2001. They didn't start using Philips Arena until July 2001, the night of the WCW/ECW join-up. They ran Philips until December 2002, when they moved to the Gwinnett Center, which is actually in Duluth, GA, but they called it "Atlanta" anyways. For some reason, they started going back to Philips Arena in 2006. -
WCW made Vince Russo a millionaire (yes, they gave him a 2-year, $2.5 million contract) to turn WCW into what the WWF was. They knew what they were doing and WCW knew what it was getting.

I wonder how they ended up on both WCW and WWF PPV in the same year.

PWInsider is reporting that Jamie Noble is fine and in good health after suffering a stinger last night while taking Mike Knox's unnamed finishing move on Raw. The segment featuring Chris Jericho and Ricky Steamboat was to take place in the ring, but had to be moved to the stage so paramedics could work on and remove Noble from the ring. -

Just for the record, Vince sold Stampede Wrestling back to the Harts almost as quick as he bought it. But it didn't matter since he retained all the worthwhile talent. -

I still can't believe that Vince hasn't done WM at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta ever since conquering WCW. -

On the last Raw before WM14, Kane & Paul Bearer announced they had gone to the graveyard that Kane & Undertaker's parents (this was before Paul Bearer was revealed as Kane's biological father) were buried. They dug up their caskets and brought them to Raw. They sat the caskets on the stage and Kane was going to use his magical command of pyro to set them on fire until Undertaker showed up on the stage. It was the first time Undertaker had been seen since they set the casket on fire at the Rumble with him in it. Taker said Kane finally crossed the line and he would make him rest in peace at WM14. I only remember this so vividly because Taker was using a hands-free microphone. He just walked out and started talking. It was the first time I had seen that. And yes, it was just as Russo-rific as it sounds. -

They had a "Sheriff Jeff Hardy" on CNN the other day talking about that missing Haleigh girl in Florida. I wonder if it's the same guy. -

Jamie Noble was legitimately injured during his "match" with Mike Knox on Raw. He was immoble in the ring and had to be removed from the ring on a stretcher. -
Remember when Rob Conway was doing the Legend-hater gimmick?

Because when Christian left WWE, Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit were still alive. Thus, there was no drug testing. WWE is a much different and much smaller world in 2009 than it was in 2005. -
Actually, the Matt Hardy heel turn was leaked to Dave Scherer at PWInsider.
