    Random Thoughts 3-27-08 to 5-28-08

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Randy Orton was involved in an incident during the European tour where he ended up throwing food on some hotel employees who woke him up early. Meltzer says he'll have more info on more incidents during the tour involving Orton which probably contributed to him losing the belt to Triple H last night.

Mick Foley offered commentating job on smackdown

I agree this is how they should explain the move. Regal is KotR and a full time wrestler, so Raw needed a GM. I don't mind Coach as a PBP guy, but he's not a color commentator. Or you could just keep him off television until they get fed up with Adamle (or Adamle quits). Adamle's not qutting and they aren't going to shitcan him either. Adamle's not going to piss away a $300,000 salary and likewise WWE won't pay that for someone to sit at home.

Might as well make Coach the Raw GM. Not much is being done with that role these days, especially since William Regal is reportedly about to get pushed and thus will wrestle more.

WWE.Com has announced that Mick Foley has accepted the position to become Smackdown's color commentator and will begin his duties tonight at Backlash.

Mick Foley offered commentating job on smackdown

How can you honestly use that show as a critique? That show was all about ECW memories. I seriously doubt Foley would constantly pine about his battles with the Undertaker other than a simple "I've been in the ring with him and he's..." stuff to pump him up.

    Beware of Dog

For what it's worth, I remember the original PPV feed caught Diana Smith getting into the ring after the match and cut to the ringside cameraman a little too soon, going right up her dress. She was either going commando or wearing a very skimpy g-string.

The reason they called the police is that someone was posting a pornographic YouTube video on the message board that was presumably viewed by a child. Microsoft has done the same thing about the people with the Xbox 360 webcam sending obscene pictures and videos to accounts they aren't aware are minors.

    Random Thoughts 3-27-08 to 5-28-08

Mike Adamle's second week on ECW saw the rating drop from 1.3 to 1.1, so there were no curiosity viewers this week to see the commentary trainwreck.
  20. From PWI: To follow up what we reported here yesterday (and what you saw on TV last night), Joey Styles has been moved out of the ECW announcing booth and into a position with WWE.com. From what I have been told, the decision was pretty quick in developing last Friday and it took most of the people in the company by surprise when it all went down yesterday. While they announced on TV that Styles will be the "Head of WWE.com", the site will still be overseen by Brian Kalinowski, who is a VP in charge of a number of areas, including the website. Styles will be a point man for the site, kind of a managing editor of sorts, taking a role similar to the one that Michael Cole had before giving up site responsibility earlier this year. Styles will be in charge of all of the content that you see on WWE.com from this point forward. Styles will both work in the WWE.com offices in Stamford and will also travel to all of the company's televised WWE events. He was telling people at TV yesterday that his role will be to tighten up the website and make sure that embarrassing situations, such as the posting of photographs on Monday of people who may or may not be in next week's King Of The Ring tournament on Raw, no longer happen. At the live events, he will sit in on production and creative meetings and thus will be able to convey to those on the website what should be reported, who should be pushed, etc. Styles will be in the loop in a big way and his new role is one that actually adds greatly to his responsibilities within the company. In talking to people inside WWE, the consensus was that Styles was telling people that he was excited about the new role and looked forward to the challenge and showing another area of his abilities to WWE. Of course, he co-owned both ECWWrestling.com and 1Wrestling.com, where yours truly worked closely with him, so he has a lot of experience in the area of new media. Unfortunately, with the addition of Mike Adamle's hefty contract that probably made the company's decision to move Styles out of the announce booth for them. As for why he was moved off of the show, I have heard a few different theories. It's no secret that Vince McMahon has never been a fan of Joey's style, which is understandable considering that Styles' strengths lie in areas that WWE does not emphasize. But of late, there hadn't been much of talk of any problem that McMahon had with the work being done on Tuesday nights. Still, given Styles initial problems meshing with Vince McMahon's view of the business, his removal from the booth doesn't surprise me. As mentioned above, there is also the matter of Mike Adamle and his big contract to consider. He wasn't brought in to be a sideline reporter and given his inexperience calling matches, ECW was the best logical place to let him cut his teeth. Curiously enough, a number of people in the company told me that Styles stock went up given Adamle's less than stellar debut last night. Of course, that has to be tempered by the fact that the people doing the evaluating think that the Coach/Michael Cole combination on Smackdown is working well.

    4/25 Smackdown Spoilers

DARK MATCHES Funaki defeated Stu Stiggs (sp?) After the match, Chuck Palumbo came out and made fun of the fans for cheering Funaki's win like he won the World Heavyweight Title. Palumbo offered his bike to Funaki if he could beat him. Palumbo squashed Funaki. SMACKDOWN The show begins with Edge, GM Vickie Guerrero, Teddy Long, Chavo Guerrero, Bam Neely, and the Edgeheads in the ring. Vickie announces that tonight's Undertaker/Batista World Title match is now a no disqualification match. CM Punk interrupts. He brags about his Money in the Bank briefcase. He tells Vickie to make a match with him vs. Edge tonight. Vickie obliges. Shannon Moore (w/ Jimmy Wang Yang) defeated the Miz with John Morrison on commentary. Moore pinned Miz with a backslide after Miz missed a kick. Natalya (w/ Victoria) defeated Cherry (w/ Michelle McCool) with the sharpshooter. She was only announced as "Natalya" so it seems she's no longer a Neidhart in WWE land. Michael Cole is in the ring for an interview with Matt Hardy. Hardy proclaims himself 100% and ready to take the U.S. Title at Backlash. MVP comes out and they talk trash to each other about the match at Backlash. MVP tries to talk Hardy out of the match and ends up smacking him with the microphone. He then lays him out with the U.S. Title belt. Edge defeated CM Punk. Punk was distracted by Hawkins and Ryder, which lead to a spear from Edge for the win. Vladimir Kozlov squashed local jobber, Marty Garner. You may remember Garner as MVP's debut jobber opponent at No Mercy 2006. In the main event, the Undertaker defeated Batista to retain the World Heavyweight Title. Shawn Michaels did a run-in from the crowd and hit Batista with a superkick. Michaels high-tailed it back through the crowd as Taker tombstoned him for the win. End of show. Notes: Mike Adamle brought out a monstrous notebook with him along with a photobook. After the ECW taping finished, Adamle goofed and stayed at ringside until Michael Cole & Jonathan Coachman came out. Adamle was so late getting out of ringside that he was still in the aisle walking backstage when Edge's theme music played at the start of Smackdown.

    4/25 Smackdown Spoilers

More Mike Adamle hijinx. After the ECW taping concluded, Mike Adamle remained seated at the announcers desk for several minutes. He appeared to have no idea that he was supposed to leave the ringside area. Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman were walking to the ring by the time Adamle got up to head backstage. He was so late leaving that Edge's entrance music was playing for his appearance on Smackdown while Adamle was still walking to the backstage area.
