WWE General Discussion for August 2007

SANTINO MARELLA POSSIBLY INJURED AT HOUSE SHOW During the Santino Marella/Umaga match at tonight's Wheeling, WV house show, Marella appeared to be injured after taking Umaga's spinning side slam. Referee Doan threw up the 'X' immediately and Umaga quickly went for the Spike for the victory. Marella appeared to favor his shoulder or collarbone and was helped to the back alongside the trainer. The bump didn't look pretty. -

POSSIBLE ANGLE FOR VINCE ON RAW Take it for what it's worth, but there are rumors making the rounds that Raw head writer Brian Gewirtz is lobbying for Vince McMahon's appearance on Raw this Monday will have them pick up the limo angle from the point where Vince was to make his return. Back when the limo exploded, the word making the rounds was that Linda McMahon would be framed for his death and Ken Kennedy would end up getting a rub from Vince. It will be interesting to see what happens. -
Bonnie Hammer submitting ideas to Vince
QuestionMan replied to Atticus Chaos's topic in The WWE Folder
None of that buyout stuff is true. Vince Russo signed a 2-year contract worth $1.5 million with WCW in October 1999. He wasn't re-hired by WWE until June 2002, over half a year after his AOL Time Warner deal expired. And a lot of Russo's reported ideas ended up being used, the main one being to bring Eric Bischoff to WWE and use him as an authority figure. The only one that really made people shake their heads was that he wanted Raw to be turned into Nitro (to go along with Bischoff's entry into the company) and Raw to replace Smackdown. -

WWE SPONSOR CONFIRMS NEW MATCH FOR SUMMERSLAM On the official web site for Ziddio.com, which is hosting WWE's "Biggest Fan" contest, they now have a video promo up for Summerslam. In the video they are advertising King Booker vs. Triple H. http://www.ziddio.com/contest.zd?dispatch=...&contest=21 -
It'll be nothing like what you see on TV. No cameras, no fancy lighting, no pyro, no ramp, and no big screens. Just a ring, simple lighting, and a black curtain. Unless you're in the front five rows, there's no point in wasting time on making a sign. Like an above poster said, I laugh at people who bring signs to house shows who aren't in clear view of the wrestlers.

The Next Gen Hart Foundation debut on OVW TV [JULY 28, 2007]

Like someone else said, I'm having a hard time getting excited for this because it's only a matter of time before Teddy Hart fucks up again. -
Some injuries are worse than others. Flair once tore his r.c. and was out for about a year. Flair tore his rotator cuff and had surgery on it in September 1996. They did an angle where he was destroyed backstage by the nWo for the storyline reasoning and he vacated the U.S. Title. He officially returned in May 1997, so that put recovery time at approximately 8 months. But the thing to remember here is that Flair was 47 (and turned 48 mid-way through) when this was going on. Lashley just turned 31, so he'll likely recover a lot faster.

Favorite Crowd Reactions to Face/Heel Turns?
QuestionMan replied to zappafrank's topic in General Wrestling
I was about to mention the same thing. Nearly 70,000 people in the Astrodome with a "WTF" silence as Austin shook hands with McMahon. -
The thing that was awesome about Sting is that this character was so deep that he beat the shit out of WCW guys like Jeff Jarrett and Rick Steiner, but never did that make anyone think he was nWo. This Sting/nWo stuff was done so well, it was ridiculous. It's just a shame Hogan had to fuck everything up.

Maybe Jeff got busted playing video games backstage.

As you saw on RAW last night, it appeared RAW setup Umaga vs. Jeff Hardy for SummerSlam, and that match will indeed go down. The planned Jackass vs. Umaga match has been cancelled. Sometime during the last week the deal fell apart. WWE had planned on some of the Jackass guys being at the Great American Bash PPV and do some of their stunts on Umaga all night and end up costing Umaga the title in the Hardy match which would have setup Umaga vs. Jackass at Summerslam. Johnny Knoxville had planned to do a few TV appearances for WWE leading up to the SummerSlam PPV but after the Benoit family tragedy happened, Jackass and Knoxville started distancing themselves from WWE. Bam Margera had officially backed out due to an injury and Ryan Dunn simply backed out because Bam did. It was to start out with a few promised TV and PPV appearances, then it came down to Jackass only working the SummerSlam PPV then it ended with the whole idea being scrapped. Once Knoxville pulled out, WWE decided to scrap the idea altogether. Originally WWE had planned on the Jackass crew defeating Umaga in the match. credit: PWI ===================== This isn't going to make USA Network happy, since they were basically forcing WWE to work with Jackass in order to promote Steve-O's new USA show.

REASONING FOR JEFF HARDY'S SUSPENSION The official reasoning for Jeff Hardy's 30-day suspension is being presented as "a lack of maturity". Whatever he did that was "immature" is not known yet at this moment.

RAW RATING LOWEST NON-HOLIDAY RATING IN ALMOST 10 YEARS The 2.5 rating for the July 31, 2007 edition of Raw is the lowest non-holiday rating for Raw since October 23, 1997, which scored a 2.3. That show was headlined by WWF Champion Bret Hart vs. Ken Shamrock, Intercontinental Champion Owen Hart vs. Ahmed Johnson, and WWF Tag Team Champions The Legion of Doom vs. Los Boriquas. The show also featured one of Jim Cornette's "shoot interviews" about how bad WCW was. The opposing WCW Nitro show scored a 4.3. Nitro was headlined by WCW Champion Hollywood Hogan vs. Diamond Dallas Page, Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage, United States Champion Curt Hennig vs. Booker T., Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Jericho, and Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio, Jr. vs. Dean Malenko.

Chris Benoit Dead - Toxicology results released
QuestionMan replied to Human Fly's topic in The WWE Folder
Shit, WWE will pay for non employees to go to rehab. William Regal said he would be dead if it weren't for Vince paying for his rehab and releasing him so he could go to WCW and make more money to get his life back together. And a few years ago, Vince and HHH split the bill so Sean Waltman could get cleaned up. -

Congress Asks Vince McMahon For WWE Testing Details & Results
QuestionMan posted a topic in The WWE Folder
From ESPN: ============== Two congressmen responsible for conducting steroid hearings into Major League Baseball have requested that Vince McMahon, the head of World Wrestling Entertainment, provide records pertaining to the WWE's testing policies. In a three-page letter dated Friday, Rep. Henry Waxman, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Tom Davis, its ranking minority member, asked McMahon to provide a series of documents intended to give the committee and its investigation a detailed look at WWE's drug-testing policy, including information about the results of performance-enhancing drug tests on pro wrestlers. "The tragic deaths of World Wrestling Entertainment star Chris Benoit and his family have raised questions about reports of widespread use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs by professional wrestlers," the congressmen wrote. "These allegations -- which include first-hand reports of steroid use by prominent former wrestlers -- have swirled around the WWE for over a decade. Investigations by journalists have described a culture of performance-enhancing drug use in professional wrestling, high fatality rates among young professional wrestlers, and an inability or unwillingness of WWE to address these problems." The letter from Waxman and Davis described WWE wrestlers as "multimedia stars that have an influence on the behavior and attitudes of the nation's youth." "WWE has a responsibility to do everything possible to eliminate the use of performance-enhancing drugs -- or the perception of such use -- by its wrestlers." The records request is wide ranging, and parallels what was asked of Major League Baseball. It seeks a list of drugs covered by its policies; the entity that conducts its drug testing; the number of tests it conducts annually; the protocols followed after a positive test; and the procedures for awarding exemptions. It also wants hard figures about the number of tests that the WWE conducts each year; the numbers of wrestlers tested; positive results for each specific drug; and the number of positive tests for which wrestlers were penalized. In an attempt to investigate the WWE's reaction to past scandals, the committee is also seeking "the results of any investigations prepared [by the company] regarding the deaths, injuries, or illnesses of current or former professional wrestlers that may have been related to the use of steroids." It adds to the list "all communications between [the company] and outside entities including communications with health care professionals or law enforcement authorities, regarding allegations of drug use by wrestlers." -

I think a lot of you are forgetting Kurt Angle asked for his release and wasn't fired. Angle duped Vince into believing he needed time off from wrestling and got his release, and within an hour was on the phone with Jeff Jarrett. -
