DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY REVEALS THEY WERE INVESTIGATING BENOIT BEFORE DEATHS The Smoking Gun reports that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) was already investigating Chris Benoit prior to last week's alleged double murder-suicide. They had linked him to a search raid on a Marietta, Ga. company, RX Weight Loss, when he was labeled an "excessive purchaser of injectable steroids". When DEA agents searched Dr. Astin's office last week with a search warrant effective June 29, they found documents from the original investigation of RX Weight Loss that detailed Benoit's steroid purchase. The Smoking Gun has court documents related to the investigation that include this statement about Dr. Astin: "Dr. Astin has been the subject of concern for excessive and/or suspicion prescribing activity by the Carrollton, Georgia Police Department and local area pharmacies. Dr. Astin has also been the subject of disciplinary action by the Georgia State Board of Medical Examiners for reasons related to competence or character." http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years...071benoit1.html

Hate to burst your bubble, but as long as you are paying your money to come to the show, WWE doesn't give a fuck what your little sign reads. They'll swipe it at the door if they see anything they don't want on TV. You'd be sending a bigger message by not giving them your money than making a silly little sign.

PRESS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS -- Records show that Dr. Phil Astin prescribed over 1 million doses of numerous drugs over the past two years, many of them prescription painkillers and anabolic steroids, and many of the prescriptions were un-dated, which is illegal in and of itself. -- Quote from federal agent giving the press conference: "Dr. Astin allegedly prescribed these drugs like candy." -- Another quote from federal agent giving the press conference: "Dirty doctors should be on notice that they face federal prosecution and federal prison time." -- The agent also said, "Alleged in the complaint that Dr. Astin prescribed a very large amount of anabolic steroids to Chris Benoit," including a new ten-month supply of anabolic steroids every 3-to-4 weeks. -- Dr. Astin was arrested and subsequently released on $125,000 secured bond with numerous conditions, including surrendering his medical license and agreeing to home detention with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. -- Investigators are still searching through Dr. Astin's records, and there were lots of questions that yielded "no comment" responses. U.S. Attorney David Nahmias said additional charges are possible as they have "voluminous" records to search through. -- Astin's attorney, Manny Arora, is the same attorney who is representing Adam "Pacman" Jones of the Tennessee Titans. He is well known in Atlanta for representing prominent athletes, and worked with Ed Garland representing Ray Lewis in his murder trial. -- Jerome "New Jack" Williams was on WSB-TV in Atlanta saying he has used steroids, knows who does and doesn't and that the guys all have a doctor they can call 24/7 to get them. He said he became good friends with Nancy in ECW and is very mad at Chris.

DR. PHIL ASTIN CHARGED WITH 7 COUNTS OF IMPROPERLY DISPENSING MEDICATION ATLANTA (AP) -- The personal doctor of Chris Benoit was charged Monday with improperly dispensing painkillers and other drugs to patients other than the pro wrestler. The seven-count indictment said Dr. Phil Astin dispensed drugs including Percocet, Xanax, Lorcet and Vicoprofen between April 2004 and September 2005. The recipients were identified in the indictment by the initials O.G. and M.J. Benoit's initials were not listed. Astin was expected to make an initial court appearance Monday afternoon. A criminal complaint was also filed, but was under seal. A law enforcement official close to the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity before the hearing, said the case involves steroids. Federal drug agents have taken over the probe into whether Astin improperly prescribed testosterone and other drugs to Benoit before the wrestler killed his wife and son and committed suicide in his suburban Atlanta home last month. State prosecutors and sheriff's officials are overseeing the death investigation. Federal prosecutors are seeking the forfeiture of all property and proceeds Astin obtained through the illegal conduct if he's convicted. Investigators have conducted two raids at Astin's west Georgia office since last week. Astin prescribed testosterone for Benoit, a longtime friend, in the past but has not said what, if any, medications he prescribed when Benoit visited his office June 22, the day authorities believe Benoit killed his wife. Toxicology tests on Benoit's body have not yet been completed, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said. Anabolic steroids were found in Benoit's home, leading officials to wonder whether the drugs played a role in the killings. Some experts believe steroids can cause paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage." "We're still asking questions and searching for answers with regard to the death so we can tie up loose ends," Ballard said. Ballard said finding a motive in the case remains elusive. "I think it will always be undetermined as to 'Why?'" Ballard said. "I think it's because there can't be any satisfactory reason why you kill a 7-year-old." Authorities have said Benoit strangled his wife and son, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his home. Benoit's father, Michael, said Monday that "it's impossible to come up with a rational explanation for a very irrational act." "That's my feeling. Let the cards fall where they fall, we have no control over it at this point," he said. "It's just impossible to come up with a rational explanation for what happened."

Seen this on CNN while I was having lunch. The video showed the 'DEA' busting down a door that looked like it belonged on a cheap motel room, so I'm going to make the educated guess it was stock footage and assume this guy didn't operate out of a roach motel. Well, he DID live with his Mom...

We've discussed how fragile even using the "Benoit Family" term would be. That would infer Chris, and we don't want anyone in anyway to think we're paying tribute or glorifying a double murderer just because of his wrestling career.

We've been debating on how to handle the situation at tomorrow night's indy show that I'm working as a ref on. We definitely want to do some sort of 10-bell salute for at least Nancy/Woman since she was a big part of wrestling in the late-80s-to-mid-90s. We're really torn though on Benoit, even wondering if we should mention his name. For now, we're going to do a moment of silence to mourn the tragedy and then a 10-bell salute for Nancy & Daniel. Anyone have any suggestions?

FEDS RAID DR. ASTIN'S MOTHER'S HOUSE Fox 5 in Atlanta went live to the site of the Carrollton home of the mother of Chris Benoit's local doctor. Dr. Phil Astin's office had been raided by drug agents yesterday, seizing paperwork and computers. The TV reporter didn't show the faces of the agents because most of them circuling the house with guns drawn are undercover agents. They had just used a battering ram to break down the door to her house. The reporter said people in the community were shocked as Dr. Astin was well-known. Astin put a sign up on his office that they are on vacation until July 6. Apparently Dr. Astin stayed with mother on and off, thus the raid of her house. There are also reports out of Atlanta that investigators found a large number of schedule 1, 2, 3, and 4 carcotics in Benoit's house prescribed by Astin. The reporter said he was led to believe they found more names with a large number of prescriptions.

WARRIOR COMMENTS ON MONDAY'S APPEARANCE ON HANNITY & COLMES Hello warriors. Yes, I have agreed to make a rare public appearance on Hannity & Colmes. Yesterday, I tentatively agreed to this evening, Friday. This morning we were contacted by the show and told there was a shift in programming due to the London Bombing attempt. So, I decided that Monday would be better. Of course, I’ve been paying attention to how this has unfolded. I’ve drafted up a post — your typical Warrior masterpiece — and will put up the polished piece after my appearance over at Fox. I’ve some original ideas about this incident — what’s new? — and want to showcase them on TV, first. I’m not sure yet, still have to do some howling atop my mountain for further enlightenment, but probably just go on Fox with my typical eloquent knack to say what others are thinking but don’t have the courage to let slip past their lips. You know, the usual brilliant, “self-destructive” stuff. Your Founding Father of Ring Intensity, Always Believe, Warrior

ITALIAN TV DUMPS WWE PROGRAMMING DUE TO BENOIT TRAGEDY An Italian newspaper reports that Italy 1 TV has cancelled WWE programming due to the Benoit Family Tragedy, noting that as details emerge, it paints an alarming picture. It also noted the Wikipedia entry which said Nancy had died 12 hours before authorities found her body. Italy had become one of WWE's new, sizzling hot markets the last year or so, but had subsequently cooled as WWE often does in overseas markets when it first visits and revisits the market for the first time or the first time in years.

TMZ.COM UNCOVERS PREVIOUS SUSPENSION OF PRACTICE ON BENOIT'S DOCTOR http://www.tmz.com/2007/06/28/benoits-doc-...hady-practices/ TMZ has learned that the personal physician who saw Chris Benoit just hours before the wrestler killed his wife and son once had his medical license suspended for "reasons related to competence or character." In 2001, the Georgia state medical board suspended Phil C. Astin, M.D.'s license to practice medicine for three months and fined him $500. Early Thursday morning, authorities raided Dr. Astin's office in connection with Benoit investigation. Officials claim they seized medical records, but no arrests were made. According to the AP, Astin has admitted to prescribing testosterone to Benoit in the past, but has not commented on what, if anything, he prescribed to the wrestler on Friday. Ironically, Dr. Astin's father also had also run into trouble with the state medical board. According to records from the Georgia State Board of Medical Examiners, Phil Carroll Astin Sr. was found guilty of engaging in "unprofessional conduct" in 1992 by over-prescribing a plethora of pills including amphetamines, antidepressants, tranquilizers and narcotics to various patients. As a result, the medical board suspended the father's license for 30 days, put him on 5 years probation and fined him $2000. Astin Sr. was reinstated in 1997, following the completion of his sentence. Astin's offices were located in Carrollton, Georgia -- a small college town about 50 miles from Benoit's home. Calls to Dr. Astin Jr. were not immediately returned.
