Nice. Looks like a guy everyone would want on their team.

Man, how does he not break his ankles on some of those landings? Ouch. This guy should be a pro-wrestler. Either that, or a gymnast.

Yes, that's exactly what I'd do. If I had my way, they wouldn't be "an American." They'd be an illegal immigrant just like their illegal immigrant parents.

I'll say one nice thing about Bob Holly: I enjoyed the New Midnight Express...I thought they were a very good tag team, and had a great match against the New Age Outlaws on that one pay-per-view (King of the Ring '98, I want to say). There, I said it.

Reading over that article, it seems like the general tone is that it's bad to be born into wealth and lead a wealthy life yourself, but if you're born poor and work your way up, then somehow you're a better person overall.

Yes, back then this nation badly needed warm bodies to grow, that is true. But in this day and age, we are virtually the only country in the world where you can become a citizen by being born in this land to illegal immigrants. Hell, I just read a story off Drudge about a woman who gave birth in the desert, and cut the umbilical cord with a nail clipper. And yet this child gets all the full rights of US citizenship? It's abuse of the system, and it's an offense to everyone who has worked hard and gone through the process to come to this country and legally apply to be a citizen.

Differences between Europe and the US: Europeans typically pay more taxes, make less money, and live in smaller living spaces. However, they generally have more free time and work less than Americans. (Well, at least in Western Europe).

Yep, which Congress could get done if they wanted to.

See, I think part of it is, like Hektik said, that there is this obsession with cheap labor in this country. Basically some conservative Republicans want to create a de facto peasant class in this country, and see the middle class continue to decline.

Yeah, see, Bush likes to say that it's unrealistic to deport all these people. Of course it is...you can't arrest and deport 11 million people or whatever it is, overnight. But...you can make it a felony to knowingly employ an illegal alien, and you can cut off their access to health care and welfare. You can also change the law that says anyone born in the US is automatically a US citizen. Of course, Bush won't do any of these things. But, if the above measures were enacted, it would slowly force illegal immigrants to leave the US.

People have the power to change their communities' schools, if they want to, believe it or not.

Holly has had a pretty long career, so it wouldn't be a shame if he retired at this point. He's actually accomplished way more than anyone would've figured ten years or so ago.

The thing with Thurmond though is that he changed with the times...he adjusted his views once he figured out he needed the black vote, so he was actually supported by both whites and blacks. Not defending the guy, but that's the historical truth. I hate how people like Jesse Jackson (a self-appointed "leader") scream racism about every little thing. If he's so concerned about bettering blacks in this country, maybe he could get them to better themselves through education and family values, and not blame whitey for every little problem.

"terr-uh" is a Northeast pronunciation, for some reason. Bill O'Reilly says it that way all the time.

Was listening to Michael Savage today (yeah, I know he's more than a little biased), and he mentioned that in Los Angeles County alone, more than 100,000 immigrant children (as in they were born in the US to illegal immigrants) are on welfare, costing taxpayers more than $275 million per year. Just one example of the cost of illegal immigration. Also heard that the Mexican government isn't nearly as nice to illegal immigrants who come into their country from Central America. Usually, if caught, those people go to jail for a year or two, and then are deported. Kind of makes you think. And yet many in the US persist in this lie that we should just let them come to our country to work, and that they're all good honest people.

The central is finally turning into a good division. Probably due to the teams in the East and West starting to suck. It's been good for at least three years. The AL "Comedy" Central is the one that had been lagging for some time. What about the NL West? Hooray for the Brewers finishing their sweep of the Braves today. Ben Sheets pitched quite well, which is definitely a good thing. Turnbow gets save #8 on the year, leading the NL.

Which is why you won't see "free agency" in the US again (aside from indy workers).

I think it was Tom Zenk, who told a story about wrestling Stan Hansen in Japan, and Hansen would blame his stiffness on his bad eyesight. Apparently, outside the ring, Hansen would wear huge coke bottle eye glasses.

If the government knew ahead of time that a plane was going to be hijacked, do you really think Bush would've been sitting in a grade school reading a book while it happened? Of course, maybe Cheney knew and Bush didn't!... You can always come up with a different angle on this.

Basically, the original poster is suggesting that WWE and TNA will start using guys on more of a "per-appearance" basis, rather than signing them to long term contracts. To answer his question, wrestling used to have a system like that. Back in the '80s and beforehand, larger names would work different territories quite frequently. Look at the careers of guys like Bruiser Brody, Abdullah the Butcher, Andre the Giant, etc. In the NWA territories, you'd have guys going to and from different areas of the country quite frequently. So, basically, we're past the days of guys not being tied to one company for long periods of time. Also, in this era of weekly nationally viewed TV shows, a free agency system would not work. How could WWE book someone to wrestle on RAW when that same guy could show up on TNA Impact the following Saturday? It would be totally counter-productive.

Vince sees a lot more value in ECW than he does WCW (DVDs aside), so I doubt you're going to see a revived ECW buried right out of the gate...maybe if things don't go well, you would see it get trashed in a WWE "takeover" in like 6-12 months, but not initially.

Yeah, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was a breakthrough for it's time, but I don't see how the lyrics are that memorable. Hell, I can't understand what Kurt is saying in half the song. Definitely a UK-centric list. For those wondering, the Arctic Monkeys are the current loves of the British press, with people going so far as to proclaim their new album one of the most important albums ever, etc. Basically they're where the Libertines and Strokes were a couple years back. If you're going to put a Morrissey penned song so high up, I would rather have seen "Every Day is Like Sunday." "How Soon is Now" is still a good tune, though.

I don't get how a player should be allowed to just come back basically for any team he wants in the middle of a season, barring injury reasons. It just seems really unfair. I know there's no rules against it, and you can't stop it, but it just doesn't sit well with me.

Well, we know that the government didn't have a good handle on anti-terrorism at all before 9/11...and probably still don't, really, given Congressional reports that have come out since then. But to say the government orchestrated 9/11 when it was clearly Al-Quaeda is lunacy.
-
The problem with 99% of the "the government was behind 9/11" theories, is that they aren't presented by any kind of credible experts. It's usually either: - a college student with too much time on their hands - some liberal professor - an anti-government crack-pot living in a trailer somewhere Basically, people that hate the governement anyway, and if not for 9/11 would just find something else to obsess over.
