Yeah, I basically gave up on comics after the Onslaught saga...it's not that I didn't like that story, but I didn't like when Marvel turned over Captain America and company to those Image guys. Plus the whole Spider-Man clone mess made me mad. I guess I'm glad now that I don't spend all that money on comics like I used to.

7-2, and looks like Turnbow will be getting another save.
-
Nevermind...Astros just scored two more runs, so it's 5-3...maybe Turnbow will make an appearance after all.
-
5-1 now...probably not a save situation at this point, so I doubt we'll see Turnbow.
-
Well, game is tied now 1-1 after 6 complete innings in Houston. Both pitchers really looking good.
-
No, I think I'm kind of digging Umaga...he showed some innovative offense, and I liked the falling headbutts and stuff. Definitely better now than he was three years ago in 3MW.

Pitchers' dual in Houston (Pettitte vs Capuano)...Brewers lead 1-0 in the 5th, thanks to a Rickie Weeks RBI groundout.

Are we at the peak of the sport?
Dobbs 3K replied to RavishingRickRudo's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
I don't post in here a lot, I guess I have a casual interest in MMA...but don't you think MMA is already pretty popular overseas? I mean, it seems to be pretty huge in Japan, for example. -
I really hope you have some kind of computer program that generated that, and didn't create it yourself with manual typing.

Yeah, that's all WWF footage circa 1990. Oh, and Bradshaw's old music totally kicked ass.
-
Maybe he could go with more of an old school "Destroyer" type wrestling mask and new tights. Though that would probably look kind of weird.
-
OK, that's pretty disturbing, the old lady going down on that guy, apparently in a restaurant or something.

Something else I was thinking about today: What was the reasoning behind Randy Savage becoming "the Macho King" in '89 or so? I realize he won the crown from Jim Duggan, but then he went with the "Macho King" nickname for quite a while, but never really defended the crown or anything. Was this supposed to be a consolation for the fact that Savage wasn't going to get to be WWF Champion for a while, or what?

What DVDs would you like to see the WWE release?
Dobbs 3K replied to iggymcfly's topic in The WWE Folder
I think it would be hillarious if the DVD is total kayfabe, with Vince just ridiculously exagerrating everything: "Yeah, Hulk Hogan helped the WWF reach the top in the '80s, but I could've done it with anyone. Hell, at one point, I was going to make SD Jones the WWE Champion, but I wanted to steal Hogan from the AWA and put them out of business. Vern called me and started crying when he found out I was taking Hogan." "We set the all time attendance record of anywhere in the entire world with Wrestlemania 3...129,582 people, plus another two hundred thousand outside trying to get in. And that record still stands today." "Ted called me and said 'Hey Vince, I'm in the rasslin' business!', so I said 'that's great Ted, I'm in the entertainment business,'...then he asked me if I could teach him how to balance a checkbook and run a wrestling promotion, but I politely declined." "I was going to make my son Shane the WWE Champion, but he was too humble to accept it. He takes after his dad." "The XFL was just a practical joke that went too far. I didn't care though, since NBC was on the hook for most of the money." "So...after I conquered WCW and put _them_ out of business, Eric Bischoff called me, begging for a job. He even offered me...certain favors, but I told him he couldn't handle my grapefruits. But, man, his hot wife can sure go, I'll tell you..." -
Thank god! Seriously, he tried to destroy his legacy by renouncing what made him famous: tag team wrestling. And while it may be true that Hawk was not always in the best shape as his partner, you don't say that kind of thing just for heel heat Orton was wrong too, but Animal and Hawk were close as a couple of guys can be it seemed from the DVD. I really hope this little run is one of those convieniently forgotten things in WWE history. Actually, for a while Animal was probably in much better shape than Hawk, notably in their second WWF run, but that's a minor point.

Didn't that finish happen in a Triple H - Shawn Michaels match? Or maybe I'm completely mistaken.

I agree on Abyss...he was definitely a Kane/ManKind rip off at first, but he has evolved somewhat. I think he needs to get a new outfit though...maybe a new mask of some kind. New viewers who tune in are just going to say "oh, this guy is a ripoff of how Kane used to be, screw this," and then change the channel. The less of a "rip-off fed" TNA looks like, the better in the long run. As far as DDP...I'm sure being friends with Bischoff helped him to a point. At the same time, he was super over in '97-'98 even before he got his super push to the World Title, and I think it had more to do with his promos, charisma, and finisher than anything else. Remember when he wrestled Hogan on Nitro for the title, and it seemed like the roof was going to explode off the place because it looked like DDP might win? You don't get that kind of reaction just from being friends with the booker (look at Jeff Jarrett as the opposite example of this).

Exactly...I took three semesters of Latin and two years of German in high school (I went to a private prep school where we had to learn them). I did use German when I actually, went to Germany last year, but other than that, I've completely forgotten both from lack of use. Frankly, the German I did use I probably could've learned from a travel book in about a week. Other countries are so protective of their cultures. Why can't we be protective of ours and just make English the official language of the US and be done with it?

Apparently, he never listened to the minister. Actually, I heard the McMahons are conservative. They most definately are, but you don't have to be religious to be conservative Exactly. Just being rich qualifies them.

Well, it makes sense since it would be a top babyface vs top heel. It's obvious they're trying to move AJ away from the X Division again (which is what they should do at this point). I think it won't be a great match, but AJ Styles should be able to carry Steiner to something decent.

A few things: I don't think it's fair to say Singh/Khali killed a guy in the ring. From what I understand, the wrestler had an existing brain condition that caused his death. Saying "Khali is so sloppy he killed a guy in the ring" is unfair, at least from what I understand. As far as the Great Khali in WWE...well, he's physically impressive. As a young mark I was pretty much in awe of Giant Gonzalez, and that's the kind of fan that is going to get into this feud, the kids and marks. Probably won't have a long shelf life unless he proves he can work, and then we'll get the inevitable Khali/Big Show feud. A.A. Estrada looks like he has a lot of potential. I really thought his interview with Flair was good in establishing him. I don't know why a character like his would be paired with Umaga, though. It seems like such a weird combo...a Cuban version of Ric Flair (except as a manager), and this Samoan savage character. As far as Umaga, I don't have too much of a problem with the gimmick...wrestling always has a place for gimmick wrestlers. Not everyone can be a straight up Chris Benoit or Ric Flair type "normal" wrestler. I wish they'd at least explain the character though, like how he came to be paired with Estrada, etc. From the little ringwork we've seen of him, I think he's definitely improved from his last stint, though. And I admit, I marked for the Asiatic Spike, because I'm a mark for old school submission finishers. The Spirit Squad still come off like a bunch of faggots. I hope they break up soon so the more talented guys can actually build some decent characters, the rest can go back to OVW or get fired for all I care.

I saw "Crash" and thought it was OK. I thought it was interesting seeing Sandra Bullock play a biggoted character. Not a terrible movie, but best pic of the year? No way. The quality of the plot and writing simply don't merit a title like that. I personally don't care about Hollywood awards though.

OLED is going to be a huge technology. There are actually companies working on OLED TVs...you think plasma sets are thin? How about a TV you can apply like wallpaper?

Hey, it could happen. Too bad the Brewers got knocked around pretty bad today
