No, it's simple...Punk is mad at Edge for costing him the belt, so he goes after Edge. Not that complicated. Only thing that I disliked about the match was Edge took Punk out with just one spear, and then Chavo took time to pin him. Edge should have at least given him a DDT or something as well.

I thought we were done pretending that this was somehow connected to the original ECW? Yeah, they pretty much killed that idea off by going to WWE rules for all matches and not having any gimmick matches on the show anymore.

I have to go with '95, hands down, just based on the complete lack of stars. I remember renting that tape with a friend, and he kept asking me "Where are all the good wrestlers?" during it. Pretty embarrassing year for the WWF in general.

Well, can't comment on the HD-iness of the show, since we don't get USA-HD, but I did think the picture on SD was a little sharper. The sound actually seemed better than usual, too. The new entrance is really cool. While similar to the old one in some ways, it doesn't feel like the old set at all, and that's a good thing. I think I could have turned the show off after the HBK-Kennedy match and been fine, but that match was worth tuning in. Nice match where they didn't get stupid and try to do too much.

Most schools aren't off here, but some businesses are closed. Hate to say it, but after the holiday season, I don't think another day off is what most people need.

Plus the fact that the whole Vince vs Lashley thing was nonsensical, unoriginal, and stupid to begin with.

If they bring back Big Show, they need to have him go over strong. Having him lose, even if by DQ, in his first match back, is not going to hack it at this point. WWE could use another big monster, since all their other ones (Khali, Snitsky, Umaga, etc) have all been made to look pretty much ineffective.

I'm not going to whine about the Giants winning, but yeah, certain players on that team seemed to act like big pricks the entire game.

Well, I don't like the idea of declaring a "best _____ ever" in any sport. It's pretty much unfair to compare one team in the current era to another team from 20 or 30 years ago. I mean, let's face it, the Patriots could win the Super Bowl and go undefeated through next season, and the Patriots wouldn't live up to the legacy of the Lombardi Packers, or the '72 Dolphins, in the minds of some fans, for example. I think part of it is that we're in the age of ESPN and 24 hour sports radio. Can't people just enjoy the current games and players without endlessly making lists and trying to compare players from different decades, when it's really not that relevant?

Benoit winning the US Title didn't really bother me. To be honest, that belt had been pretty devalued by that point (remember Orlando Jordan?) so Benoit winning it at least restored some of the luster to it. Then, of course, Benoit put over MVP big time, which I think really cemented MVP as a legit upper midcarder. Getting back to the ECW thing in 2001...when Stephanie came out on RAW as the owner, I remember thinking "OK, this makes sense from a kayfabe standpoint...I just hope she doesn't overshadow Heyman in all of this." Of course, we remember how that ended up going.

True.. but it will be much easier to now do supershows!! I will not judge this decision until I see this set. I think the production team really thought this out, and probably agreed that this will be the best move when going to HD. Maybe they built one massive set that can be easily customized to fit each brands unique looks?? In the article he did mention that the set would be customized for each brand and have a distinctive look. WWE has a great production team, and they don't do things sloppy.. so I will wait and see. Agreed. Also, like I mentioned elsewhere, the brand extension seems to pretty much be dead, but in name only. I mean, you have guys like Finlay and Khali appearing on every show at will, the ECW and Smackdown co-promotion, etc. I think it's pretty much been shown that minimizing the "brand extension" as much as possible has been good, as far as making each show more entertaining.

I did like that, too...especially when WCW would use that for Clash of the Champions.

Don't be mistaken, Bud Selig has definitely left a mixed legacy in Milwaukee (and Wisconsin in general). On one hand, he brought baseball back to Milwaukee after the painful exodus of the Milwaukee Braves. He also took the Brewers to their first (and thus far, only) World Series appearance in '82. Unfortunately, once he became commissioner of baseball, the team became basically an afterthought to him, with most of his energies being focused on getting a new stadium built. While that was something that was needed, and ensured the Brewers would not re-locate, it left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, because it utilized a five county sales tax (an extremely minimal one, but a tax none the less)...but those people tend not to understand the economics of the game, or aren't baseball fans to begin with. Also, handing the team to his daughter was pretty much a disaster for the team, and the Brewers have only really started to turn around now that Mark Attanasio is the owner (though good draft picks were made, technically under Wendy Selig-Prieb's watch). Oh, and for those who still gripe about the bias in the Brewers moving to the NL, get over it. He actually did give the Kansas City Royals first choice to move, and no other owners were chomping at the bit to switch leagues. I do miss seeing the Brewers-White Sox rivalry somewhat, but the Cubs and Cardinals have more than filled that void, and the Brewers still play the Twins every year. As far as interleague play...I really don't understand the animosity some people have towards it. It's a 162 game season...a few series against teams in other leagues doesn't really "dillute the game", IMHO.

I am excited about the new RAW set...I've gotten so tired of the same basic ramp and video board setup they've been using for basically ten years now. Time to quit acting like this is still the late '90s. So...how many times does Marvin figuratively ejaculate in this thread tonight?

Eh...they've both (Hillary and Barack) pulled the "down home Southerner" act in front of black church crowds. To kind of add to what was said earlier...I think the idea of someone "not acting black enough" is totally stupid. The mentality seems to come from wannabe gangstas who hate anyone who acts like a normal civilized American and tries to be successful by going to school or getting a good job.

Not really a zoo, but last summer we were out in Las Vegas for my best friend's wedding. We were at one of the casinos (I can't remember which one it is), and they have a couple live white tigers on display. I don't remember this (yeah, we'd been drinking pretty much the whole day, leading up to the wedding in the evening), but apparently I asked very loudly, "Which of these is the one that mauled that guy?"

I don't like the Patriots (OK, I'm just sick of the constant hype, really), but to say they're "not that good" when they're 18-0 is laughable.

Pretty much...I don't think he's the only one you can point the finger at, though. Both the offense and defense made plenty of mistakes. I do think some of the play calling seemed odd, as well. Still, if you had told me at the beginning of the season that the Packers would make the NFC Championship game, I would have probably laughed. Now we get to sit through at least a couple months of "Will Favre come back or not?" reports on every TV and radio station.

Just quick thoughts on last nights game...I didn't comment last night because I was too numb after seeing the Packers lose last night to bother getting on the internet. It was the Packers' game to win at multiple times last night, and they let the Giants take it. Favre didn't look really stellar, and the constant penalties were ridiculous. Congrats to the Giants. I hope they give the Patriots a good fight.
