    Year End Review

I like Deuce and Domino for their gimmick. I guess I haven't noticed a lot of their mess ups in the ring. Then again, they're on Smackdown, which is taped, so a lot of that stuff probably gets covered up.

    HDTV

Kind of debating my own TV situation at the moment...our living room TV is a 48" Mitsubishi rear projection which is fine (had it for over four years with not one problem), but is almost bigger than we need...I mean, when you're sitting about six feet from the screen, that is almost overkill. We've been thinking about getting a 42" flat panel, which could be set back a little bit more, and not be so dominating in the room. Of course, we would have to move the Mitsubishi somewhere, like maybe to the basement, which will be a huge chore. Our basement does need a new TV, as the literally almost 20 year old 27" Sharp that my parents gave me when they finally upgraded is dying (picture flickers off occasionally...definite mechanical issue).

    Year End Review

Wrestler of the year: Shawn Michaels, just based on the fact that he can still go after all these years. I don't care for Cena, and I can't think of anyone else really standing out in big time quality matches this year. Worst wrestler of the year: Snitsky. I wouldn't bother mentioning him, but WWE keeps using him in semi-high profile squash situations, and he just isn't special at all. Most Improved Wrestler: MVP. This doesn't need much explanation. The guy started out the year being hated by most everyone on the internet, and now he's regarded as a quality worker. As an aside, JBL should get a production credit on MVP's career. Most Underachieving Wrestler: Kennedy. Like I've said elsewhere, I can't remember the last time someone so hyped by both the WWE and the internet has achieved so little. Best Tag Team: London/Kendrick...they were brought to RAW for a reason, though WWE doesn't do much with them. Worst Tag Team: Jim Duggan/Super Crazy. Super Crazy is a joke at this point, and Duggan has no business being on my TV screen in 2007. Best Heel: Randy Orton. The guy does what he does. Best Face: CM Punk. Having him pretend to join the New Breed and then turn on them right away was pretty good. Best Diva: Uh, hmmm...Mickie James. Worst Diva: Any of the numerous Diva Search runner-ups who've gotten on TV with no explanation. I guess if I have to name one, then Brooke. Match of the Year: I think I have to go with the one from ECW where Punk won the title from Morrison. Worst Match of the Year: Something a few weeks ago on RAW where Coach, Hornswoggle, and Foley (as referee) were all on my TV. None of them have any business doing so at this point. Yes, that goes for you too, Mr. Foley. Quote of the Year: Something Santino said about someone being a street prostitute. I can't remember the exact quote, or who it was in reference to. Santino would probably get all of my Top Five quotes for this year. He's genuinely funny. Best Comeback: Jeff Hardy. I mean, if someone had told you that he'd be in line for a title shot at the Royal Rumble, would you have believed them? Mark out moment of the year: Marty Jannetty coming back to RAW for a match...of course, once he actually got in the ring, it was pretty much downhill from there (again, thanks, Kennedy). Funniest moment of the year: On the "Who is Vince's bastard?" episode of RAW, Triple H and Vince being in the ring at the same time. Up until the point where Hornswoggle was revealed to be the son. Best brand: Smackdown! (duh) Good wrestling with usually at least decent storylines. No brainer here. Worst brand: RAW...yes, it's been by and large worse than even ECW this year. Mostly bland or forgettable wrestling coupled with some really bad storylines and terrible Looney Tunes rip-off comedy lately. Basically the only time it's been really good is when they bring a big star back, have a special episode (15th Anniversary), or scrap the charade that is the "brand extension" so they can actually have some good matches on TV. RAW has been far and away the worst of the three shows in terms of creating new stars. I mean, ECW has been able to do things with the likes of Viscera, Stevie Richards, and Ballz Mahoney, while the likes of Carlito, Umaga, and Shelton Benjamin stumbled around the RAW landscape with no direction at all, with most being fed to Cena or Triple H and then promptly forgotten about. Best PPV: Royal Rumble (it was the only one I ordered), which had a good and entertaining Rumble match, a good brawl with Cena/Umaga, and a decent formula tag team match on the undercard. Worst PPV: I don't know, there's probably been a couple stinkers, but I haven't ordered them. Best Feud: MVP/Matt Hardy. Long enough to warrant a mention, and they kept it interesting. Hardy's injury even worked with the continuing storyline, after MVP gave him one of the best beatings seen on TV in a long time. Worst Feud: Khali/Hornswoggle, if that counts. I really hate the midget, if you can't tell. Worst Moment of the Year: There have actually been some really bad moments in WWE this year. I'm too lazy to dig for it now, but I started a thread a few months back entitled "2007: Most Disastrous Year in WWE History?" that mentioned quite a few of WWE's missteps and misfortunes this year. Of course, the death of Chris Benoit and his family pretty much wins by default, but I'm guessing this ends up being a year Vince McMahon is glad to put behind him, even if business is still going relatively well.

In truly exciting news, the Brewers have resurrected the career of Gabe Kapler, and signed him to a 1 year deal. Gabe spent 2007 managing in Boston's minor league system.

Vladimir Putin. Man of the Year.

I thought Kim Jong Il should've gotten it last year, for basically standing up to the supposed biggest power in the world and suffering essentially no consequences for it (missile tests, nuclear reactors, etc). Instead they did the stupid "You" garbage that the Daily Show had a ball skewering. At least Time kind of made up for it this year by picking someone who actually matters.

    4,000 dead Americans

I think in general people are just sick of talking about Iraq. It's basically the same argument and counter-argument over and over, for the last four years: "We can't cut and run! We're beating the terrorists!" "Bring our troops home! George W. Bush deceived us! Quagmire, etc!" It gets pretty fucking old by now. Do something or don't, Democrats. You're the ones in power now. Either use the power you were given, or admit you aren't going to. Enough of the mealey mouthed, half assed bullshit.

That's probably about as much as Jenkins could have expected to get, so good for him. I've never been a huge Jenkins fan, but it was cool when he got a standing ovation when he walked off the field officially for the last time at Miller Park. Too bad he wasn't part of some better teams. Hopefully he doesn't get booed when the Phillies come to Milwaukee.

I didn't see anything wrong with the current Rays uniforms. I don't see who the new ones possibly appeal to, though.

I wouldn't mind Hayes being the color guy on Smackdown at all. I remember a couple times around '98 or '99 that he filled in on RAW and I thought he actually did a pretty good job.

So Fire Pro R is back

Yeah, that's always been a pain since Fire Pro D on Dreamcast, when they first introduced real weapons. You have to be in the exact right spot above the weapon, otherwise your guy will run instead, which is stupid.

    Wii

Personally, I've never really been able to tell a huge difference between a 480p video game and true HD resolution. As long as it displays properly on a widescreen TV, I don't really care.

    Campaign 2008

Eh, I think a lot of Hillary's campaign is simply "It's time for a woman in the White House" as well, even if they won't outright say that.

    RAW XV

Only midget wrestler I ever saw who really stood apart was Tiger Jackson (who played Dink), if anyone remembers him. He looked fairly 'proportional', just small.

WWE General Discussion - December 2007

They've tried replacing him before. The problem is that someone like Jonathan Coachman (who I wish was off TV completely) or Joey Styles will never be accepted as a replacement for Jim Ross. The frustrating thing is how much Ross struggles to keep up with what is going on. You rarely hear any serious play-by-play calling from him anymore, other than a few key moves. WWE's policies may be to blame for that, though. I think they should transition to a three man announce team, just to take the load off from Jim Ross a bit, and let Lawler be himself a bit more. Of course, that will never happen.

WWE General Discussion - December 2007

If that guy and Sapp both end up in WWE, they better never book the two of them in a match along with Lashley on RAW, because JR's head will likely explode trying to tell who is who.
