"Hacksaw" is just one of those old school "tough guy" nicknames. I believe there was an NFL player in the '70s with that same nickname. I agree that Val may as well get a win once in a while, I'm just not interested in seeing him get a prolonged push or title reign out of it. And as far as no one saying *it* about Val, that is good, because it wasn't funny to begin with.
-
While Lance Storm probably never cut a single memorable promo in his whole career, he was right on both points.
-
Exactly. Val is fine in his role now. He gets the "Hey, I remember this guy from when wrestling was really cool" pop, does his token moves, and jobs in convincing fashion.
-
I didn't find Cook to be that annoying in the movie. He's more periphery to the plot than anything.
-
Yeah, no kidding. I got excited when the Rockies managed to put up some runs. Unfortunately, I fell asleep (had a long work day yesterday), and they had lost when I woke up again.
-
No, no he doesn't. Yes, Val is a good worker, but he's very vanilla and bland in the ring. The whole porn star gimmick was dead seven years ago. Why they brought it back, I don't know. Val also doesn't have a very good look at this point, frankly. I'm fine with WWE keeping him around to play a Tito Santana type role, but there are so many guys ahead of Morley that they should be pushing, it would be pointless to give him even a mid-card program at this point. It's nothing to get upset about, it's just the natural cycle of wrestling as a sport and business.

No, when he had his first run in WWF, he was just "The Blue Blazer" and no reference was made to his real identity, as far as I know. They may have mentioned him having success in other parts of the world, but that's about it. Savage and Genius/Poffo were never acknowledged as brothers in WWF, as far as I know. One other one I just thought of...when the Four Horsemen were first taking off, the Andersons claimed Ric Flair was a distant family cousin of theirs, but I think that was pretty much forgotten once the group was up and running. Of course, in kayfabe terms, you could think the Andersons were just lying to justify themselves helping Flair to begin with.

Bill Clinton has it right on how to respond to these idiots.

But without Teddy's environmental policy.

Yeah, but apparently congress and the president both do not.

Jericho: "Ring of Honor fans are losers"
Dobbs 3K replied to QuestionMan's topic in General Wrestling
Yeah, I've never been to an ROH show, but the last WWE house show I went to a couple years ago was white trash city. -
OK, I ended up upgrading the PSU anyway. Local computer store had one that works fine. Thanks, guys.
-
Yeah, I fell asleep before the end of the game. Looks like I didn't miss much. I hope once the Rockies are back in Colorado, that they put up more of a fight here.

I don't think anyone would want to play the Super Bowl at Green Bay, maybe not even the Packers (OK, that's a stretch), but I think having a neutral site is good for the game. I wouldn't mind seeing them have it at some non-NFL venues, so it's not cycling between the same eight or so spots every few years. As for the MLB idea about the Brewers moving back to the AL, I wouldn't necessarily mind it, but I doubt they want to change back after just switching leagues about ten years ago. Also, the rivalries with the Cubs and Cardinals probably bring in too much money for them at this point. I do wish there was some way around having one four team division and one six team division, but I doubt it will change until MLB expands again to 32 teams.

Is ECW about to end as we know it? (ECW renewed)
Dobbs 3K replied to Jaxxson Mayhem's topic in The WWE Folder
I'd be happy if they'd just differentiate the show from RAW and Smackdown a bit more. I'm not asking for the old ECW, because that would be impossible, but don't give us the same product three nights a week. -
Wasn't there something where Dibiase got mad at Bischoff? I could be wrong.

I guess I personally feel Roberts is a bit overrated in the ring. Most of his matches during the height of his popularity in the WWF were fairly bad. The DDT was basically the one devastating looking move he did, other than the short-arm clothesline. He's basically just looked upon fondly because he came off as a bad ass and was a great talker.
-
I think the thing with Heenan was basically just a way for WWF to introduce Flair before he could actually appear on TV. IIRC, Heenan's involvement with Flair phased out fairly quickly. Perfect basically acted as his manager to add heel heat, especially since at least some WWF fans probably weren't that familiar with Flair.

Jericho: "Ring of Honor fans are losers"
Dobbs 3K replied to QuestionMan's topic in General Wrestling
A lot of wrestling fans are losers, but ROH seems to attract a particularly annoying breed for whatever reason. -
Jake Roberts is a good example of building a career out of having one good move. If he hadn't had the DDT, I doubt he would have done as much as he did.
-
Yeah...the "brothers" thing with Edge and Christian eventually just kind of faded away. I don't think it was even really mentioned by the time they broke up as a tag team. How about when WCW made Raven and Hak (Sandman) brothers? That kind of goes the opposite way. You could also put Ronnie Garvin and Jimmy Garvin in that same category, though there was at least some type of family connection there (step-brothers I think?). Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake were portrayed as brothers early in their careers, if I'm not mistaken, and that was of course never done in WWF, even when they were shown as best of friends.

I missed his debut with the company, but why did TNA bring in Fatu anyway?
-
I think the thing with Sting is that while he was never overwhelmingly talented in the ring, he was still quite good at times and generally gave his best. He also had a great look, during both versions of his career (the painted "surfer" dude was a good blend of the Road Warriors and Hulk Hogan, while the later "Crow" look fit in with the anti-heroes that were popular in movies and comics in the mid-'90s). While I'm sure there are a few examples from his WCW days in the mid '90s when he was being underutilized, I can't recall a match where Sting just blatantly phoned it in, like a lot of his contemporaries. Heck, he had some pretty entertaining matches with some marginal performers. He always played to the crowd and seemed to appreciate his fans. I think that's why he's always been over, even if he isn't as talented in the ring as Angle, or had the lengthy title reigns of someone like Ric Flair.

Which leads to the annoying obligatory FM jock joke "Are we renaming April 'Raperil' as well?"

Changing moments where guys who got titles/retained...
Dobbs 3K replied to Boxer's topic in General Wrestling
Yeah, Kerry going over Flair was absolutely the right booking, no question about it.
