Yeah, that is probably true. We need to stop pretending that this is the late '90s and we're still in the middle of the Monday Night Wars...though WWE should be doing the same thing, too.
-
Heh, not that I'm aware of.
-
Agreed. A lot of the current WWE fans probably don't even remember Bret Hart in the WWF, anyway.
-
So I'm late to this thread after last night. All I have to say is: "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" You couldn't have written better irony than this Cubs post-season. I am entertained.

"Frank TV" is going to be another one of those TBS original shows that lasts a month before getting canceled. The guy isn't that funny on Mad TV, but they're going to give him his own show? OK, then.

I do agree that the government should not waste time and resources combatting marijuana. Frankly, I would think most Repbulicans would be in favor of dope use...a stupid and sedate populace is more easily exploited by the upper class.

Like what? Hopefully not gasoline or residential property...we're taxed enough on that as is.

I hope he doesn't pull the Roger Clemens "I won't sign with anyone 'til May", bullshit.

The sad thing is that his death was back in the days when wrestlers dying young was an uncommon occurrence, and now we hardly bat an eye anymore.
-
Wow, and some people think McCain is too old?
-
Where are these 12 year olds dying? I seriously have not heard of that before. I don't go in for the bleeding heart stuff. Hospitals generally don't just throw injured people into the street to die (yes, I've heard of isolated cases of hospitals in LA and such doing that). Generally though, if someone needs medical treatment in the US, there are ways to get it, regardless of income level.

Well, yes, I would much rather spend trillions (well, rather not spend that much at all) on Americans rather than Arabs who will just end up hating us more anyway. I realize most of the developed Western world has some form of socialized health care. I'm not necessarily against it. I guess I am kind of ambivalent regarding it, based on the fact that I've heard so many horror stories about Canadian health care. (And yes, I realize we wouldn't have to follow their model, and that our system has problems too). Maybe if the proponents of universal health care would spend more time making coherent arguments and explain how their system would work, and less time demonizing anyone questioning it, I could be swayed.

I agree. The way some statheads talk, the Pythagorean record for a team should almost be the one in the record books, rather than the actual, real life, win-loss record. "Oh, that team just over-performed, or were lucky." "Gee, are you really sure? Are you sure your precious stat metric wasn't just flawed to begin with, since you're trying to predict the future in a sport full of intangibles?"

I know I'm going to sound like a cold hearted "dumbass Nazi motherfucker" here...but no one has ever been able to adequately answer the following question for me: Where has this idea where everyone is entitled to paid (re: very discounted or free) health care come from? America has never had the need for this in years past. Yes, our population is getting older, but we have had old populations before. Just as a personal example, my dad was one of thirteen farm kids. I've never bothered to ask, but I bet they didn't have health insurance, let alone a medical plan, covering them. Yet, they turned out fine. Basically, people seem to want to add more government red tape to an industry that is already full of it. I just don't "get it."

Actually, yeah, Linebrink is a free agent now. Theoretically the Brewers could try to re-sign him, but if they don't, they'll get 1 or 2 first round draft picks as compensation, assuming he signs with another team. The same thing will happen if they don't re-sign Cordero...so they could potentially have four or five first round draft picks next year, if I'm not mistaken. I'm kind of tired of relying on Ben Sheets, personally. He's been injured consistently the last three seasons. I think the Brewers should try to build the rotation around Yovani Gallardo...maybe hold onto Sheets, but don't expect him to be the ace anymore. I would also like to see the Brewers go after a short term solution to their outfield...like trade for a big bopper type LF, but it will be tough to make anything like that happen this off-season, it's looking like.

Yeah, those darn modern LED ribbon boards are why the Cubs are losing the series. Pissing in a trough and having concrete fall out of your stadium's roof are what baseball is about, dammit.
-
Yeah, but like I suggested before, shouldn't other countries be getting outraged about this as well? I think the key problems are that the UN is dominated by Arab and Third World countries that are just as bad in some ways as Myanmar, and the fact that the local super-power, China, has a regime that is equally despicable. Thus, it would be up to Uncle Sam to get anything done yet again, but we're too busy with two wars right now, so the world will sit idly by while monks are rounded up.

There were some problems with the sound that made the crowd completely overpower the announcers. It's like they can't find the right balance. The picture on TBS in HD is awesome, but theres definitely a sound problem related to crowd noise, its wierd but Ive seen the same thing sometimes on ESPN games before.. We don't get TBS-HD here yet, but they were showing the Cubs/D-Backs game on TNT-HD for a while earlier, and it indeed looked and sounded great here. I'm not having the sound issues others are mentioning. For some reason the picture here on the standard TBS feed is rather crummy, though.

I think the Yankees went to an age based salary scale, probably under secret orders from Big Stein's brain in a jar.
-
Nope. Used to dislike them quite a bit when the Brewers were still in the American League. And yes, Doug Davis isn't very good, or at least very mediocre. That's why the Brewers traded him for Johnny "Swing at the first pitch and can't throw anyone out on the basepaths" Estrada.
-
Gee, it sounds like I touched a nerve. I've been called a lot of things, both in real life and on this message board, but I think "dumbass Nazi motherfucker" was the first time three different slurs were so colorfully conglomerated. I think you just won a cookie for that one. Yes, the Brewers did "fuck it up", but that doesn't mean I still can't hate the Cubs and their fans with their bewildering sense of entitlement. I guess I can't wait to hear about the "Lou Piniella Curse" or the "Zambrano Curse", or whatever excuse, after the Northsiders fail to make the World Series yet again.

Based on the Yankees and Cubs losing their first games, and the Rockies going 2-0. If the Angels hadn't completely choked earlier, my satisfaction would be totally completely. Three out of four ain't bad, though.
-
Well, I'm pretty happy with how this post-season is going so far. That is all.
-
Because they're compassionate conservatives. We need to spend the money on Iraq because they were ruled by an evil dictator. Americans are too patriotic to need that money from the government.

I thought at first that the swastika Asian pics were of some Falun Gong rally. They use the "backwards" swastika as well.
