How do you feel about Iraq?

I think you're both a little murky on this point. There was a Shi'ite uprising (and a Kurdish uprising) AFTER the defeat of Hussein's invasion of Kuwait. George (H.W.) Bush did encourge Iraqis to "take matters into their own hands", and then, from my understanding, didn't do anything to help out once the rebellion began (he may have even worked actively against it). As a result, you had a whole, whole bunch of dead Shi'ites and Kurds as Saddam ruthlessly put down the rebellion. I'm not murky on anything. Since I was rejecting his entire premise, picking apart his timeline of events was a waste of time. http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/art...65&lb=hmpg2 He's right on. If you excluded Kurds, I'm certain the numbers would be even more abysmal. You left out an important part of what I was saying. Does the poll shed any light on my observation? Yes, it does. Your source says: Do the Iraqis favor us immediately leaving? Not according to your source. And here's another question for you: do opinion polls decide policy, or do governments? The last I'd heard, the officially recognized government of Iraq (the people who were actually elected to lead the country) wanted us to stay. When the government of Iraq says its time for us to leave, then we should leave.

It just seems ridicules for them not to be. Not every 16:9 television has the capacity to blow the picture up awhile cutting off the top and bottom (whatever that process is called).

    Superman Returns

I can buy the concept of Clark Kent because people always tell me I look like a different person without my glasses on. When I was in high school, a girl asked me to take my glasses off, and her reaction was "Oh my God" (in a good way). Add speech patterns, body language, and hairstyle to that, and you've got a pretty decent disguise. I know that when John Byrne was writing Superman, Superman tried to not allow his face to be photographed and vibrated it at superhuman speed just enough so any picture of him would appear slightly burry. Thus, the only thing people would remember about him was his costume. The only people who have spent any bit of time with both Superman and Clark Kent are Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen (and some continuities, Lex Luthor). They probably think there's a strong resemblance, but are so put off by how differently the two look/act/sound that they dismiss the connection. As far Clark and Superman never being anywhere at the same time, I've never been in the same place at the same time as George Bush, but nobody thinks we're the same person. I know that's not a perfect answer, but its just enough for me personally to suspend disbelief and let myself get sucked into the stories with.

Oh snap. DEY SUIN' THE VICE PRESIDENT

You are correct, Sir! Bob Novak was the original journalist who outed Plame's undercover identity. Hmmmm...that'd seem to indicate that maybe he was too close to the story to comment on it objectively. As Commander-in-Chief, the President has the power to declassify anything he wants. All they have to do is show that Pres. Bush declassified Plame's status before the VP's office leaked the info. Thus, I don't see these charges sticking. That makes sense, but common sense won't get you very far in an American court, I'm afraid. State of mind is difficult to prove. The only way I'd beleive that is maybe if Dick Cheney had plans for an Iraqi invasion already written out before even 9/11 happened. Of course, that's a completely ridicules idea, right?

This is only 1/1000th of the media backlash against her I was hoping for, but I guess it'll have to do.

How do you feel about Iraq?

I'll say this again: The U.S. is already rebuilding the place. Except we didn't invade to make the Shiites happy, so what they asked for and when they asked for it is COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. Since we don't have a time machine, we can't go back and fix the invasion. I'm talking about making the best of the current situation, instead of concentrating on stuff that we have no control over. I refuse to accept this premise based on the lacvk of evidence you have to support it. Yes, there's more terrorism in Iraq than there was before 2003, but Saddam wasn't exactly keeping the Iraqi body count at 0 himself. I don't know where you got that number from. If its even close to being true, its probably because of resentment over civilian casualties during the invasion, and not an assessment of what the country would become if the U.S. suddenly left.

Isn't Novak actually PART OF this story?

Oh snap. DEY SUIN' THE VICE PRESIDENT

My copy of the GOP talking points memo didn't have the second page, apparently. I'm curious to know how "willful and malicious" really plays into this legally.

The OAO Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

I've got the urge to watch "Laserblast" again for some reason. I actually remember trying to watch it on a UHF station on a Sunday afternoon when I was a kid before MST3K even debuted.

    Clerks II Offcial Thread

I think the biggest problem with Kevin Smith movies is that they were never intended to be watched over and over or scrutinized in the detail that us internet geeks tend to do. Any movie can seem bad after you've seen it too many times.

    Good shows gone bad...

I always had a thing for Dana on "Step by Step." Maybe it was because I was still crushing on her from "My Two Dads," or maybe because she was the only character who realized everyone around her was a total idiot. It was cool because her constant cutting-down of the other characters was kind of like the writers were sending a secret message that they too knew how dumb the show really was.

    Superman Returns

Darkseid should be saved for if they ever do a Fourth World movie. Bizarro would only work if they did him as a pure evil clone, instead of a dumb clone with Superman's powers who speaks in opposites. I'd really like to see Brainiac, Kryptonite Man, or Metallo in a movie, though. And Supergirl.

Oh snap. DEY SUIN' THE VICE PRESIDENT

I already know where this thread is going. People are going to counter-argue that (a) Plame's status as a CIA agent was not a secret at the time of the revelation, and (b) that the president is allowed to delassify any information he wants, so anything the White House chooses to leak to perfectly legal. Then the thread will turn into either a bitch session about (a) how the liberal media is out to get Cheney or (b) every unethical thing Cheney has alledgedly done since becoming VPOTUS.

How do you feel about Iraq?

Reparations? The U.S. is already rebuilding the place. We handed them a better form of government on s silver platter, and are helping them maintain it. This is after we got rid of their dictator for them.
  23. I know a part of the world where they still take religion very seriously. However, I live in America. People don't have to take religion seriously if they don't want to. Live your life the way you want and stay true to your own beliefs, but keep in mind nobody else has to believe the same stuff as you. You can't MAKE people religious or make being religious popular, so quit worrying about it.
