He's right. Those were the last time the original trilogy was for sale in its original form and they were NOT released in widescreen.

I'm no expert, but $48 million is a lot of fucking money. What's with all the "bomb" talk? I fucking hate Tom Cruise, but I'm not deluded enough to think the guy isn't the biggest single box office draw in the world.

Now let's compare this genocidal rant to MikeSC's ability to argue for 10 pages against any "liberal" point no matter how much empirical evidence there is to the contrary. -

If I were, I'd be citing sources. And given my job, I can assure you that high school texts don't go into that level of analysis. -
I realized this source is, like, 20 years old. Nevermind.

R.I.P. the "Wizard spills the beans" thread. Oh, well....anything associated with those shills at Wizard isn't worth keeping around anyways.

Someone please post this same poll at the Pit. -
Its good to know that there's something everyone agrees on, be they left, right, libertarian, or politically nuetral...the news media sucks.

The consensus of opinion among historians is that Goldwater's liberatarian values kept him from supporting civil rights legislation because he beleived the federal government had no right to "legislate morality" and was exceding its jurisdiction by trying to pass such laws. It had nothing to do with how he personally felt about African-Americans, although it should be pointed out that he once commented that African-Americans should stop complaining so much because they didn't have it as bad as Native Americans did. He did imply on several occasions that he would have supported using nuclear weapons, however I believed he backed off of this stand later in his career. These statements could have easily been tactical, though, intended to strengthen his bargaining power with the Soviet Union in the event he was elected. -
I'm not to big of a Superman fan. I've always been more of a Batman and Spider-man fan. But Spacey's portrayal of Luthor sticks out and interests me. I still wish they would have got another Superman villain besides Lex Luthor - Brainiac perhaps? Fair enough.

If every historian said the reason Truman bombed Hiroshima was because he was racist, I'd disagree because the facts simply don't support that conclusion. But we'd still agree on the fact that Truman did order Hiroshima bombed. The problem I have with the Harding book is that it introduces new facts into the scenario that, as far as I know, I haven't all been verified by other historians. In addition, I also know how many of his policies WERE harmful to America, which have yet to be properly addressed or counter-argued. History is a peer-regulated field. There will be differences in opinion about why people did what they did, or what the impact of certain events were, but historians are pretty good about policing themselves for factual accuracy. Take, for example, Michelle Malkin's book about the Japanese internment during World War II. Historians tore that book apart because she only included facts that supported her conclusion, and did not research the topic particularly well. But, some people swear the book is valid history and she was invited to talk about her book on multiple TV shows because she was "debunking" a "historical myth". And some people think her book is historically accurate because it is a newer book written by someone claiming to be an expert. That's the kind of thinking I'm trying to avoid. -
I have no trouble buying these again, since there are second-hand video stores I can trade my old ones into. I bought the special edition DVD 2 years ago, and I got to enjoy them for those 2 years. I don't mind trading these in and getting a different version, considering the set 2 years ago really wasn't that expensive.

If historian agree on what the facts of a situation are, you SHOULD listen to them. If every historian came out and said, say for example, 6 million Jews died in a secret Nazi plot (as crazy a that sounds), you'd be stupid not to listen to them. It just might be the case that the book he refers to will become the consensus of historical opinion some day. Until that happens, and until I see some other professional historians soften they're opinion of Harding and verify what this book has said, I'm not willing to throw my old beleifs out of a window. -

None of it does. It would have been kind of hard for me to earn a bachelor's degree in the subject if that was the case. The difference between me and you, apparently, is that you just read one historian and accept everything at face value. I go by what facts the consensus of historians says is true about a topic, and draw my conclusions based on that. I'm not going to let a single opposing viewpoint totally rewrite everything that's already been established by every other historian who has ever studied the topic. -
DC only just now got around to copying the "Essential" format of cheap b&w 500+page reprints of older comics, which Marvel started about 10 years ago.

JLU Season 3 starts September 17th
SuperJerk replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in Television & Film
What the hell's going on with CN's attitude toward JLU anyways? I understand trying to stretch 13 episodes to a full 9-month TV season, but the lack of publicity, reruns, and apparently (as the Legion series demonstrates) faith is staggering. A show this good with 91 episodes deserves a little better than a shitty Saturday night timeslot, DVDs that take 4 years to come out, and late-night reruns on Boomerang. -
I was working at Blockbuster when this was released on video as a "Blockbuster Exclusive." We had a running joke about how one of the managers would recommend it to virtually everyone who came into the store. Despite the fact that this film has a wide-cult following, and was only straight to video because of studio politics, I still get a chuckle whenever people act excited over this movie. I'm glad to see its finally getting some theatrical distribution.

I'm not fond of Thandie Newton, either. Hot women need to look like they're hungry for sex. Thandie Newton just looks like she's hungry for food.

Well...that evening was a complete waste. Concession stand duty for me! Here I was going into a situation I thought would be a reeding ground for funny stories (as extra-currcular school functions were when *I* was in school), but sadly, it was a let down. Highlights of the evening: -The hot redhead 23 year-old art teacher talking to the 23 year-old math teacher.... "We could put these leftovers in our fridge...........Not that we share a fridge, though." -The tomboy home econ. teacher (a.k.a. "FACS") glamoring up and looking hot. -The blonde girl with the mountains of cleavage almost popping out of her top every time she walked buy or leaned over to pick up a soda. -The DJ played some songs I've actually heard before. Yeah, that was about it.

Part 1 of the 2 part series finale is tonight. On the bright side, another JL DVD set comes out in June, and Boomerang has apparently began showing JL reruns at 11pm eastern/10 pm central.
