You know, on some message boards they actually DELETE old threads once they've been inactive for almost a year.

That's kind of the same way I felt about the Pope.

I'm not sure what makes that bumbling, violent idiot character different than his other bumbling, violent idiot characters.

As cool as some of the EU stuff is, a lot of it has been contradicted by what we saw in the prequels. -
8 Crazy Nights and.....? The horrid piece of crap known as "Little Nicky". I'm not sure if "Punchdrunk Love" counts as a comedy, but it certainly bombed. He was basically playing the same idiot character from "Happy Gilmore", except it was in a "serious" film. Spanglish, also a supposedly "serious" film that was really a comedy, didn't do well either.

His movies generally make around $120 million, which definitely qualifies them as hits. However, he's also made a few comedic duds in the last few years. I know some kids that want to go see "The Longest Yard", but somehow I doubt anyone will see it more than once. Most STAR WARS fans are seeing ROTS more than once.

Good point. -
There have been quite a few animated flops in the last few years. This will be the movie parents take their little kids to see once, while the teenagers go to see ROTS for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th time. The only sure-thing animated movies are the ones made by Pixar. My problem with "The Longest Yard" is that there's nothing about it that looks even remotely funny, even by Sandler standards. I can't beleive that many people would want to go see it.
-
Sandler's no longer much of a draw. "Madagascar" will only attract people who mistakenly beleive its a Disney movie. ROTS is going to do INSANE repeat business (I've already seen it twice myself), which is the real key to runaway hit status.

Maybe he had some whacky adventures along the way before he got there. -
From imdb.com: 1. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) $108M $159M 2. Monster-in-Law (2005) $14.3M $44.1M 3. Kicking & Screaming (2005) $10.5M $34M 4. Crash (2004) $5.5M $27.6M 5. Unleashed (2005/I) $3.84M $17.6M 6. Kingdom of Heaven (2005) $3.35M $41M 7. House of Wax (2005) $3.16M $26.8M 8. The Interpreter (2005) $2.8M $65.3M 9. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005) $2.01M $46.9M 10. Mindhunters (2004) $909K $3.47M Anything coming out in the next couple of weeks that might knock ROTS out of the top spot? The so-called "big releases" all look pretty underwhelming to me.

I think the point is that its hard to feel sorry for Raymond when he obviously brings this shit on himself by not telling his idiot family to fuck off.

You, guys, I think there does come a point when you're allowed to start a NEW thread about something.

My thoughts on Sifo Dyas: Sifo Dyas was a messed up pronunciation of "Sidious". He doesn't really exist. Sidious ordered the Clones, and the Cloners assumed he was a Jedi. Obi-Wan was blowing smoke up the Cloner's ass in AOTC when discussing him (watch his reactions..."I'm sorry", etc.) so they wouldn't know why he was really there (hence the line "That's why I'm here" when it really wasn't). Obi-Wan was just GUESSING that Syfo Dias was killed ten years ago because he'd never heard of him (he even admits this in a later scene). Yoda and Mace had no idea who the hell he was either, so Yoda went to the Cloners' planet to get to the bottom of it. Sidious (aka Syfo Dias) ordered the clones (including having "Order 66" implanted into their minds), and had Tyranus (aka Count Dooku) hire Jango to kill Padme, because he was trying to start a really big war that would wipe out most of the Jedi. Not a single fucking thing happened in these movies without Sidious orchestrating it some how. -

Good point. I just got back from seeing it for the second time...I gotta say it might be equal to ROTJ (not that ROTJ was perfect, mind you). I'm 100% sure the whole "NOOOOOOO!!!!" sequence, with the flat table and the ripping of the hand restraints was intended to be an homage to old monster movies. Speaking of spoilers, I wonder if that big thing the Empire was building will be in the next movie...maybe Anakin's kids will team up somehow to destroy it. -
Its not like the U.S. isn't trying help them rebuild, though.

Why start now?

What? You think there's no black people in Kansas? I don't remember the book specifying what race she was. What the hell difference does it make? They probably hired Ashanti because she could sing well and act a little (she's been in a lot of stuff), and was probably the biggest star they could get to be in it.

Yeah... Anakin didn't really hate Obi-Wan until he thought Kenobi had turned Padme against him. Why the hell are we still doing spoiler warnings? The movie came out 3 days ago...anyone who wants to read a thread about it has probably already seen it... -
What Placebo tried to do was attack my assessment of UPN's popularity by changing the subject to comparative cash-flow. See this quote? Did I fucking say a goddamn word about dollar figures? No. I said THEIR SHOWS SUCK AND WILL NEVER DRAW MUCH OF AN AUDIENCE. Keeping the 123rd most popular show on your goddamn schedule instead of replacing it with something potentially better is not a good way to grow your shitty network. The only thin UPN is doing here is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Their ship is sinking, and moving the same crappy shows to a different night isn't going to stop that from happening.

Aw, shit...gotta pull a "Mike" for this one... To keep them happy so they'll get their repeat business. They want them to still advertise with them tomorrow, the next day, and all of the days after that one. Newspapers and various other news organizations won't survive long without a steady flow of cash. Favorable coverage of people and things that will potentially help their business. For example, if Senator X wants to regulate such and such, the newspaper can run story showing the possible negative effects of the regulation. If there's big scandal involving company Y, then company Y's shareholder's might be better served if said scandal was kept on page 11B behind the story about the world's fattest baby. The public isn't kept as well informed about things like corporate givaways in Iraq, corporate coruption that might hurt a stock price, or the dangers of product z. I don't know about Chanel or Saks, but many advertised products are from conglomerate companies that have their hands in many pots. And lots of corporate hotshots sit on the boards of more than one company. Its not MY theory. Economists and sociologists have been charting this behavior for decades.
