    Alan Keyes Daughter

I wonder if he feels his own daughter is a sinner, and if so, that would be sad indeed. Rumor is he kicked her out because of this.

    The Watchmen

Yeah, yeah the Watchmen were awesome...best comic ever...yadda yadda yadda... Anyways: Everybody, by now, knows the story of how the Watchmen were based on the old Charleton Comics characters after DC got the rights to them. Obviosuly, Dr. Manhattan was supposed to be Capt. Atom, Night Owl was Blue Beetle, Rosarch was the Question, and Comedian was Peacemaker (I think)... Who did I miss? What other Charleton characters were based on who exactly? I've been wondering this for a while now.

    Wizard Magazine

The thing about the X-Men is that they're supposed to be the underdog team. Magneto used to whipped their asses single-handedly. Ditto for Juggernaut. They're not heavy hitters. That's not their appeal. They're the guys who loose occasionally, but never give up.

South Carolina. I *knew* it! (The SC behind his name might have been a clue.) Actually, I'd say they only want to SUPPORT the liberal among their brethren. And why shouldn't they? I hate it when people vote for other people just because they share an ethnicity.

    Kerry's still campaigning for President

Don't you remember those ideas you guys misquoted and misrepresented all year last year? You mean the plan he never revealed? -=Mike Oh, so you HAVE heard of it.

At least Bush loves the enviornment....

We are NOTHING to this planet. Nothing. Volcanoes spew more pollutants in one eruption than we have --- in our history --- combined. -=Mike It has been proven that humans can put enough toxins into the environment to create serious health risks for ourselves. Volcanoes didn't create the smog over Los Angeles, the raditiation in the American southwest, or the sewage in the Missouri River. Humans did. Do humans have the power to destroy the ecosystem forever? Perhaps not. Do humans have the power to poison the environment so that people's health is seriously at risk? Absolutely.

    Noam on Iraq

Bush's seems to be the conservative leader with the closest ties to the religious conservatives. Reagan always gave them enough lip service to get their vote, but Bush seems to me to actually believe as they do (although not as rigid). Bush's strength is that he's equally at home in all three groups (economic, national security, and religious) and all of them realize he's the best thing going for putting forward their agenda.

    Holy Shiite

Yes, its expected for the Shiite's to win. The bad news is that Shiite's are generally far more militant and fundamentalist than the Sunnis are. The fact that these Shiite's have close ties to Iran doesn't look like a good sign either for national security reasons. For those of you who aren't familiair with Islam, the Sunnis and the Shiites are their version of the Protestant/Catholic divide among Christians. The split arose after Muhhamed died, and the two groups are the descendants of the factions that disagreed over who should suceed him as the religion's leader. They also have different interpretations of the Koran.

OAO pre-No Way Out No Way Out thread

Remember how awful 2003 was? The only thing it had going for it was the return of Stone Cold. It was a co-brand (as they all were back then), but Angle didn't even defend his title, and Triple H faced Scott Steiner. The mani event was the pointless Rock/Hogan rematch.

I'd love it if you'd elaborate on this point. Liberals seem to group all conservatives into one big monolithic block. I'm sure you'd have no problems explaining for us how conservatives fit into various sub-groups, or what the internal resentments are amongst different factions. Mainstream conservatives LOATHE a huge chunk of the social conservative base. I am more tolerant of them than most conservatives, and I find groups like PTC to be abhorrent. Look at it this way --- did you see guys like Falwell, Robertson, Bozell, et al during the RNC? Have you seen them in anything resembling a prominent position in the RNC for years? Bush will make the occasional play for them, but you know what really matters to him by what he actually expends energy on. He can discuss the marriage amendment all day long --- he has not actually expended any energy to get it through Congress. -=Mike What are some specific differences? Are the "mainstream conservatives" more interested in economic and national security issues?
  17. Your math is correct, of course, but I don't think the situation is realistic. The union wants to double the starting wage? And the argument seems to assume the place of employment in question is the only place those people can get jobs. By increasing the price of labor, you've made the job more in-demand, so the workers are willing to compete and be more productive in oder to get one of the 5 jobs, so the employer benefits. The problems with your scenario is a reflection of the problems with laissez-faire. What immediately benefits those who control the means of production may bot be perfectly evident to them. I think that only applies to emergency situations.

There's not excuse not to do something with London, considering he's one of the best workers in the company and the card is pretty empty. This PPV is the last one on the "Road to Wrestlemania" package I bought, so I'm kind of stuck watching it even if it looks like it sucks.

    WWE Married Wrestler/ Diva Affair?

    (1) Big Dave is indeed married. (2) No offense, but "strong Christian beliefs" didn't stop the youth pastor from nailing the mom of one of the kids at my church when I was younger.
