You can't be serious. The difference is between having troops there as a contingency while diplomacy goes on, and having troops there to kill and be killed as their only objective. Let's not fool ourselves, we really only do have 2 choices, but they are two VERY different choices. By changing the name to describe their presence, they will no longer be shot at/bombed? Its not what they are calling it, but what they will be doing over there that will make the difference. Way to straw man, Mr. Intellectual Integrity.

This "let's blame Democrats for gas prices" strategy's success is already being reflected in the national poll numbers. In other words, people don't buy it. Those gas taxes and regulations Beck, Limbaugh, and others are trying to blame for price were in place for many YEARS before the price spike happened. Couple this with media reports of RECORD PROFITS for oil companies, no one with half a brain and any sense of intellectual honesty is going to blame Barack Obama or Nancy Pelosi for this.

I define dirty as swift-boating or accusing people of father illegitimate children. Putting blame where it obviously doesn't belong or making moronic comparisons is just the act of a desperate man that anyone with a brain can see through. But that's my opinion. This might also be considered dirty: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080731/ap_on_...r/campaign_race This argument would only work if Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill Cunningham, Michael Savage and the rest weren't all Republicans. For fuck's sake, the entire first half of this campaign was the Republican Party trying to convince people that Obama hates white people.

I'm sorry, sir, but you don't know what you are talking about. I know you only live there and have benefitted from that system your whole life, but the American media informs me that your system is terrible. Who am I supposed to believe? Someone who lives in the UK, or the American press?

You can blame the company, the courts, and Congress, but it is the insurance industry's manipulative and self-indulgent use of regulations that creates messes like this.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080705/ap_on_...benefit_battles

That's not dirt. That's desparation. No one is going to buy that Obama is responsible for high gas prices. That's such an...insane...allegation that only the most fundamentally ignorant voter would buy it (i.e. people who were going to vote Republican anyways).

I had mentioned this earlier, but my STB ran off DVI-HDMI, after a few weeks of component, and the only difference I noticed was less noise around text, on, say, a sports ticker. I will re-iterate how much better having one cable instead of five is, especially given how often I unplug my 360 and bring it somewhere with me. I sold my old 360 when I came out west, on the grounds that when I move back east, I would buy a new one with HDMI out. It turns out my timing was perfect. I had saved the HDD from my old 360, so I was able to buy one of the few Arcade bundles left, which are becoming pretty rare. Thanks for the info from both of you.

My Civic only hold 11 gallons, but its a hybird. At $8 a gallon, $1 would get me about 5 miles. Wait...How did this become the price o' gas thread? And WTF is up with the intelligent analysis all of a sudden? OMFG MCCAIN SUX~!!!!111 (There, back on topic.)

This is election getting stupider by the day... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080731/ap_on_el_pr/mccain One question: WHO IS RUNNING THIS CAMPAIGN? If this isn't the worst line of attack I've ever heard, I don't know what is.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/28/church...ting/index.html I'll ignore the political questions surrounding this and focus on the sadness I feel that my religion (or any religion) is being targetted by fanatics.

Thank you, sir, for answering the question before I asked it. I just found out that using my HDMI output from my computer is silly because the computer I have only transmits video and not audio through the HDMI cable. Yeah, I know I could use external speakers instead of the ones built into the TV, but since my TV has a audio input coupled with the VGA input, I might as well use that. Plus, like you said, I'm freeing up my HDMI port for something that actually requires it. Of course, I don't really know what that other device might be...

I'm going to remember all this "Obama isn't liberal enough for me" talk when President McCain is expanding the war into Iran, vetoing health insurance for children, and appointing Orin Hatch to the Supreme Court. You guys keep talking like this and it makes me wonder about your attention spans...are you forgetting what we are dealing with now? The thought of getting the Republicans out of the White House is all the motivation I need to want to vote. The reason the Congress hasn't done anything about Iraq is because the second they move to cut funding they'll get labelled as"not supporting the troops" and will be giving the Republicans a giant club to hit them over the head with. Ending this war is going to required control of the Executive Branch, because the Executive Branch runs foreign policy and diplomacy is going to be required to move out of Iraq as painlessly as possible. We can't just cut funding and leave without throwing the region into turmoil, and we can't keep doing the same thing over and over expecting to "win". A third way to get out of this mess is needed, and the President is the only one who can do it.

I disagree. The idea that having a gun makes you safer is based on the premises that either someone shooting people in public would be prevented from doing so by either someone taking him out first (impossible in this scenario unless someone knew he was going to the shooting before he started doing it), or he'd be too scared to do the shooting because of the consequence of being shot himself (also not the case because this man wanted to be shot himself). Unless the hypothetical guns in question came equipped with magic forcefields that keep you from being shot by other people, adding more guns to the equation wouldn't have prevented this from happening.

Hey, didn't Ted "Series of Tubes" Stevens used to be the Senate President Pro Tempore (and would be so again if the GOP took back control of the Senate)? Golly, you don't think information like that might influence the outcome of the congressional elections, do you? I mean, not that being President Pro Tem is a real job, but still... I don't follow your logic. You would prefer that an attractive woman be a lesbian instead of heterosexual? Because the idea of two hot chicks together is a lot hotter than the idea of a hot chick with her middle-aged husband. I really had to spell that out, didn't I?
-
Not even Don Draper could sell someone on voluntarily going there.
-
Unfortunately, the governor of Alaska. How is that unfortunate? If you can't figure out why I'd say its unfortunate a hot chick isn't rumored to be gay, there's no hope for you.

There's one man who'd make a worse pick that Romney though... http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/...-around-jindal/ Jindal is considered a conservative wunderkind, but he and Obama were elected to the Congress at the exact same time, and his time as governor would be 1 year by the time he were sworn in as VP. He would instantly destroy the "Obama is too inexperienced to be president" argument. While I find his views unsettling, and his views on abortion to be utterly appalling, I do hope my side wouldn't try to exploit his ethnic and religious background the way the other side has done Obama. Gov. Crist of Florida is the other guy everyone is talking about, but he also is thin in the resume department. It's hard to stand up and say, "The guy who has spent over 3 years on the foriegn relations committee is less equipped to handle international affairs than the guy who's been Florida's governor for a year and a half." Funny how being the president's brother automatically eliminates Jeb Bush from being considered, even though he'd be a perfect pick otherwise.

I'm going to repeat our conversation here, so if anyone else wants to give me additional feedback, they won't have to go over the same ground. Thanks. I see what you are saying about component versus HDMI. The problem I'm facing with HDMI is that my 360 isn't an elite, so I'd have to get the Mad Catz HDMI adapter, plus the cable. I was hoping this thing would be cheaper (over $50 less on amazon.com, and you still need to order the actual cable) and get the same results... ...but probably not, I guess. (As you can see, they've gotten around the audio output issue by making it a secondary line.) Has anyone ever used the 360 VGA adapter?

I'm going to ask the same thing I did in the tech folder... What's a better hook-up for 1080p...VGA or HDMI? Or are neither that much of a step-up from standard component cables that they're worth the expense?
-
Because of the special they are running at Circuit City this week (36 months no interest on select brands), I decided to pick up an LG 42" 1080p LCD for $1099.99. Since its I'm not confined to 720p anymore, should I get the VGA cable, the HDMI adapter, or stick with component cables for my Xbox 360? Is HDMI better than VGA? Or just handier?

Romney? Suddenly there's an up-side to him getting out of the primary race before I got to use all my material.

I have to say I'm impressed with McCain new 4 step campaign strategy: -flat out lie about your record -flat out lie about you opponent's record -repeat lie at least a dozen times -hope no one in the press bothers to dispute the lies Case in point: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080721/ap_on_el_pr/mccain
