Poll: Hopefuls' character trumps policies; 55 percent say they consider honesty, integrity as most important qualities WTF???? Seriously...what...the...FUCK? Maybe one of the poll questions should have been "Do you live under a rock?"

Somehow I missed their coverage of that. Another possible contender... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258220,00.html It'll be interesting to see how much Hollywood-bashing goes on this election. This is, of course, the party where the presidential nominee denounced Hollywood values at a convention where the keynote speaker was Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I'm pretty shocked Ghost Rider broke $100 million. I thought everyone hated it.

He had some great material back in the day.

That bit about the Fox News Vice President saying that MoveOn.org owns the Democratic Party seemed pretty counter-productive. Democrats: We don't want to be on your channel because we think you're biased. Fox News: That's because you're a bunch of no-good liberals!

A new candidate for "Stupidest Thing I've Ever Read." http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258107,00.html I'm not sure if he's being sarcastic, or he really thinks that (a) the Confederacy was a soverign state, (b) Lincoln lied about the reason for the war, or © Lincoln mismanaged the war, even though he fired the incompetent people below him that screwed up instead of promoting them as Bush does.

Roger Ailes runs the thing. Hey, wait a second there! Just because Roger Ailes and others in the organization were Republican political consultants, it doesn't mean that they'd use their positions to malign Democrats, does it? Oh, wait... http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/10/deb...eled/index.html Yeah, I guess it does.

I'm going to guess 'yes' I want everyone to take note of who it was that resorted to petty personal insults when they couldn't get everyone to agree with them. Everyone who says I act like MikeSC needs to take a look at who the real culprit is, thread after thread after thread.

Beyond the original appearance of Venom back in Amazing Spider-Man #300, I've never cared for him.

Did Vixen and Black Lightning earn their spots? How...by being in the Detroit JLA and on Pres. Luthor's cabinet? And Red Tornado is kind of the catalyst that brought this storyline together, and I'm not a fan of that character being in this JLA, but at least he has a long history with the team.

Because I know what I'm talking about?

This says it all.

Two things are painfully obvious: C-Bacon does not have kids. C-Bacon has never worked with kids.

I'm going to guess 'yes' -=Mike

What's this "we" shit? Are you even part of the educational establishment? Have you ever worked in education, or taught a class? I like how people who have don't even have anything to do with education, either as a student or a professional, are getting so worked up because a Catholic school in Canada isn't going to let kids have iPods anymore. I'm only a teacher, so I can only control what the rules are in my class, but if the administration of my building or district had a policy where these were banned, I'd enforce it whether I agreed with it or not. The teachers aren't the ones who made these policies, so the repetitive anti-teacher comments being made on this thread are pretty irrelevant.

The consent comes from their parents, not the children. Children are not allowed to vote. I thought we were talking about iPods. Yeah, this is the first time a thread has moved on to a broader subject. The "broader subject" seems to be that anyone who expects kids to follow rules that were put in place for their own good are evil oppressors who are ruining America. I'm not sure how kids are supposed to concentrated on their school work when they've got "My Humps" blaring in their ears.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/09/gin...ider/index.html The hypocrisy is a little too hard to ignore, isn't it? For the record, Clinton was impeached because his original deposition testimony during the Paula Jones lawsuit was proven untrue, not because he lied during the grand jury investigation. By stating that Clinton "got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge" ignores both the fact that Clinton was never actually proven guilty of committing a felony, and that he DID admit to having the affair during the federal grand jury investigation. Unless Gingrich is claiming that Clinton did NOT have an affair with Monica Lewinsky, Clinton's grand jury testimony was factual.

People thinking kids are to blame for everything wrong with education vs. people who think that faulty educators and decisions play no small role in the ills of schools. I thought we were talking about iPods.
-
Telling a kid he can't listen to his iPod while he's supposed to be doing school work isn't even in the same ballpark as political oppression.

Depends on who the moderators are. Fox still tries to pretend to be unbiased when the spotlight is on them. Of course, those occasions are rare. This morning they were having a panel discussion on national health insurance. I watched for a couple of minutes before I realized they didn't have a single person in the discussion who was in favor of it.

What's this thread about again?
-
Three reasons: -they lack the skills to do the work, so they act up to get out of doing it (I'm Sp. Ed., so my instruction methods pretty much have to eliminate this one if I want to get anything done.) -they're bored and want to get everyone off track for their own amusement (The kid probably just needs some attention, so I try to make the kid feel more included in the lesson by revolving an example around them or asking them to help me by passing out papers, writing stuff on the board for me, or asking him question and try to relate whatever it is he's saying to what we're learning about.) -they want to get kicked out of class so they can sit in the office and do nothing (I ask them to sit quitely and take a zero...at least that way they'll still have to hear part of the lesson instead of sitting in the office and doing nothing.) Too many teacher just want to stand in front of the class and lecture, instead of doing learning activities that get kids involved or get them to be curious about what they're learning. Its not easy to do this, or else everyone would do it, but it is necessary. I'm generally against kids bringing iPods and cell phones to school because they either use it when they shouldn't, or they make themselves a target to get their stuff stolen because many of them bring so much attention to the fact they have it (i.e. "Check out my new ringtone." or "Look how tiny my iPod is!"). Most teenagers, especially the younger ones, lack the self-discipline to be in charge of their own education, and often don't even think an education is necessary. I'd say roughly 75% of American teens don't see the value of learning anything that won't immediately reward them with material goods. Getting kids to see the value of education is one of those struggles every teacher has to deal with on a constant basis. I don't treat the kids like cattle, but if a student think you're doing what you're doing because you care about it and them, they tend to work harder. And the reality of education is that if you don't genuinely care about kids, you won't be motivated to perform YOUR job at 100%, either. We're not social equals, because teacher who don't let the kids know who is in charge just get walked all over, but its never a good idea to talk down to them or insult them in any way. You can be in charge without getting on a power trip. That's the difference between a system that is compulsary for 14-18 year olds, and a system that is voluntary for 18-22 year olds.
