As someone who regularly bribes his students with Starbursts and Tootsie Rolls, I can't think of one bad thing about the Book It program.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/02/cpa...y.ap/index.html Here's to the activists pulling the candidates so far to the right there's no way they can win a general election. Usually they're given just enough wiggle room to give them some plausible deniability when they move to the middle for the general election (i.e. "compassionate conservatism" and a "kinder, gentler nation"), but I don't see that happening this time. Guiliani, McCain et. al. are going to be forced to try and out-right-wing each other and defend failing policies at every turn.

Sure, that's a stupid reason to vote for someone, but by saying that your meaning is more along the lines of "isn't it about time we had a black/woman president?" The difference is that we've NEVER HAD a black or a woman president.

Saying we need a religious president is the same thing as saying we don't need a non-religious president. Welcome to America. Where nonreligious people are less trusted than Muslims & Mormons. I don't think an atheist could win an election for state legislature. I don't equate a belief in God with being religious or being a person of faith. I'm sure there have been a great many people of good moral character and sound judgement who believe in a higher power, but base their lives, ethics, and judgement on secular reasoning. I wouldn't characterize Thomas Jefferson as being a "person of faith," for example. Also, I don't equate the political inviability of an atheist candidate with what the country "needs." I don't think someone's religious views are in any way an indicator of how competent a chief executive they'll be. The 2 worst presidents of my lifetime have also been the two most religious.

I just got back from seeing Reno 911! Miami. Fucking funny as hell. I've only seen a couple of episodes of the TV show the movie is based on, but I didn't need to because it works as a stand-alone movie just fine. It follows a fictional sheriff's department to a police convention in Miami. When every police officer is poisoned in a nefarious plot, our incompetent heroes must keep the streets of Miami safe from prostitutes, alligators, drug lords, and beached whales. SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!

"I say thee Cray!" Heh.

He wasn't making a statement about electability, he was saying what quality he thought America's leader needs. He said "we need to have a person of faith lead the country." Meaning that he thinks only religious people are good enough to be president. I don't see how that can be interpreted any other way.

I didn't hear about this quote from Mitt Romney until today: Hey, Mitt... Asshole.

No. He plays .

The Rock, Danny DeVito, and Paul Reubens have funny cameos, by the way. They also do a lot of stuff in this movie they could never ever do on the TV show.

That Mary Marvel poster is all kinds of messed up.

Isn't that what Glen Beck's been saying? I'd hate to think a candidate for national office was relying on him for their talking points.

Richardson made Vilsack redundant. I don't expect Biden or Dodd to stick around for long, either. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/02/23/rom...s.ap/index.html Romney's trying to milk the incident now.

SLAPFIGHT! http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/02/22/sch...bama/index.html Maybe I'm a little biased here, but it seems the problem is between Geffen and Clinton, and not Obama and Clinton, no matter how much the Clinton campaign and the press try to claim otherwise. Meanwhile, this is the kind of petty bullshit stuff that everyone gets worked up instead of real differences on actual issues. Because, you know, I seem to remember something about a war going on or something.

I'm actually forward to the Hulk coming back and beating the shit out of everyone. It'll be like I'm living vicariously through him and taking my aggressions out on Marvel for fucking up Civil War.

What do you have to back that up? I'm curious to know how many Muslims you've met in your life. 8 out of the 80 guys in my Navy RTC company were Muslim. That's 10% of a recruit company, versus the 1% Muslims make up of the general population in the U.S. These are guys who were willing to risk their lives for America. I also had a Muslim college sociology professor who seemed pretty interested in social justice for all people, regardless of race or nationality. I've also known a few Muslim college students and a Muslim teacher at my school last year. Most Muslims aren't the fanatical nutjobs you see on TV, just like most Evangelical Christians don't want to bomb abortion clinics or most Irish Catholics aren't in the IRA.
