The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
SuperJerk replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
Perhaps you could provide us with a clip of that which you refer? -
I bet Mario Cuomo still kicks himself for not running in 1992.

I've already given you a dictionary definition, and a logical equation that demonstrates your error. Next am I going to have to draw you a picture?

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis
SuperJerk replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Current Events
I think this stimulus money is a terrible idea, now please give me some. -
You are arguing because X (socialism) is part of Y (any move away from pure capitalsim), then X = Y. Yes, socialism is moving away from pure capitalism, but that does not make ANY move away from pure capitalism the same thing as socialism. Socialism is a very specific thing, and pure capitalism is a very specific thing. But there are many other economic systems which are neither of the two.

And here all these years I thought it meant state ownership and control of industry. Oh, wait. It does.

"Dan, I'm not a Republic Serial villian. Do you seriously think I would explain my master-stroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I did it thirty-five minutes ago." As a 3rd grader, my class had a discussion over "The Day After" when it aired. The possibility of conflict with the Soviet Union was a major issue in the 1984 presidential campaign the next year. I remember nuclear fear being a very real thing. In the book they did fight him. Was that not included?

Because of the new ending, I'm sure people will try to claim is a metaphor for .

Do we need to find a 13 year old boy to define socialism for him?

The Democrats don't have to own anything. Republicans were in charge of the war when that went bad, so they got blamed. Republicans were in charge of economic policy when the economy went bad, so they got blamed. If things don't get better, the Democrats just need to claim "things are worse than we thought, we need more time to undo all the damage the Republicans did." edit: Yes, I know this is an incredibly simplistic way of looking at the effects of President Bush's economic policies, but over-simplifying blame and credit is how American politics are played.

THAT, and "oh we got away from our TRUE VALUES and spent money" as if that is ever going to change from either party. Both parties spend a lot, it is just what they choose to spend it on. And you don't suppose running against government spending, at a time people want it the most, isn't a good idea?

Even if Obama's policies aren't effective, the Republicans still have to overcome the Bush legacy (and getting blamed for the economy being bad in the first place) before they can regain any real power. There's no telling how long that will take.

What will be the worst movie of 2009?
SuperJerk replied to Obi Chris Kenobi's topic in Television & Film
Wait....whut? The first Mortal Kombat is on my short list of videogame movies that aren't awful, and even shorter list of video game movies that were actually good. The first MK movie was pretty good for a videogame movie and it did well in the box office. I believe it was the #1 movie in the country for 4 weeks in a row from August to September of 1995. The movie did 70 million domestic and 120 total for 1995. I don't grade on a curve for video game movies, since they're usually made by the exact same people who make non-video game movies. -
Secret Bush memos made public by Obama Document says no warrant needed to search and seize terror suspects Remember, they hate us for our freedom.

I don't know...there's a pretty big fracture forming in the Republican Party. Limbaugh fires back at Steele. This will be a bigger trainwreck than the 1964 Goldwater/Rockefeller feud because BOTH sides are run by twits.

That is some seriously ridiculous shit! So the projections for that 3D concert were 3 TIMES what they did? Ouch, well that experiment sure failed and hopefully we see less and less of those things, especially since aren't tickets like $15-20 per person for that shit? And they wonder why it didn't meet expectations? I did see a U2 concert in 3D last year though, and it was really good. Best part was it was just the same price as a regular movie. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have bothered going. Plus U2 is actually...like, you know...a good band.

I can't blame them because to me that doesn't sound like as much fun as what the show ended up being about.

Limbaugh is in the perfect position right now: -he will never be held accountable for anything he has said in the past that hasn't worked; -if anyone disagrees with him, his army of dittoheads is there to defend him.

I really hope this movie is going to be judged on its own merits and not judged prematurely before people have even seen it, or nitpicked to death for not being a panel-by-panel remake of the book. Now, excuse me while I ride my unicorn off into fantasyland.

This week's episode gave me hopes they're really going to be able to tie up all the loose ends. I'm not sure where next week's episode is supposed to be going, because an argument over whether or not to keep the ship, even if it is falling apart, seems pointless. "Let's scuttle Galactica." "Okay....so where else we gonna park all these raptors, vipers, weapons, and...um...you, know...people?"

In other news, the earth continues to revolve around the sun. Was Dratch originally supposed to play Jenna? Because Krakowski pretty much nails the "shallow actress who thinks she's prettier and more talented than she is" attributes of the character.
