What will be the worst movie of 2009?

I think you and I have very different definitions of what constitutes "funny stuff."

    Okay, I'll bite....what happened?
  3. Make a thread demonstrating why you should be kept around. goldengreek For what ? I have done nothing wrong I come on here to see wrestling news / gossip and read diffrent opinions of wrestlers, programs etc. from various members. This has been blown out way out of proportion. While I would like to stay, there are plenty of other forums like this one out there. Im not going to beg, plead, or kiss ass. It is what it is. A bunch of loser nerds who cant form an opinion of their own are gonna ban me. So be it. I realize now that I've said shit like this in the past, and might explain the degree of unpopularity that I've experienced at times on this board. Goldengreek, you've made me a better poster.

    American Hegemony

Having less blood on your hands than, say, King Leopold or Stalin is hardly something to be commended for. Listen, I don't disagree that America has done some good in the world. That's undeniable. But to simply brush all the shady shit we've done in Latin America/SE Asia/The Middle East/Africa aside and say, "Well we've done some questionable things in the past, but on the whole we're pretty great!" (which is what it seems like you and smitty are doing) is, I think, somewhat problematic. I can't deny the bad stuff we've done, either, but the claim that our "record of propping up brutal military juntas is pretty unmatched" is nonsense. Compared to almost every other powerful country that's ever existed, we've been saints. I mean, that is what that statement was doing, wasn't it? Comparing the U.S. to other countries?

    American Hegemony

Our track record of propping up brutal military juntas is pretty unmatched as well. I'm not going to split hairs over what we should consider "propping up brutal military juntas" to mean, but in terms of militaristic brutality and imperialistic immorality directed at other countries...well, let's look at some other historic examples of the brutality of various imperial powers over the centuries: The Spanish and British Empire's policies towards Native Americans. European powers in Africa from the 1600-1800s. Pretty much everything the Russians did to their neighbors from 1945 onward. Japanese expansion prior to and during World War II. Boy, the Romans sure loved open dissent, didn't they? Germany. England, opium, China....'nuff said. So, in summary, compared to everyone else to ever have any influence in world affairs, we're total amateurs when it comes to fucking people over.

    American Hegemony

Has any other nation in the history of the world ever attempted something as bold and benevolent as the Marshall Plan? As messed up as our foreign policy towards Iran and Iraq have been, or Vietnam and Central America, the United States' track record of doing things that benefit other countries is pretty unmatched.

It is weird that in the course of one week, Obama went from being historically significant for being the first black president to being historically significant for being the first president to appear on the Tonight Show.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis

The final days of the Taft Administration, actually. The Amendment was ratified on Feb. 3rd, 1913. President Wilson took office March 4, 1913 (I'm sure you recall the Jan. 20th inauguration date wasn't established until the 1930s). There had been income taxes prior to this, but they had been ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. These taxes were usually in the 3-5% range.

Tyler Perry has to be a billionaire by now. Dude probably makes a 500% profit every single fucking movie. Watchmen continues to climb toward $100 million, which would be very impressive if the movie was not only set in 1985, but released in 1985.

Now that you mention it...As a special education professional, I'm not up in arms about it, but you can easily discount my opinion by pointing out that my lips seem to be permanently attached to the president's BUTT.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis

I can't disagree with that, but I'm just saying I think there's other factors suppressing demand more than consumer confidence is.

The US Economy and Current Financial Crisis

It's what's keeping us in it. Consumer confidence, in this case, is a rational reaction to everything else that's going on around us. Someone can have all the confidence in the world and still lose their job tomorrow. If the disposable income or credit just isn't there, then the desire to buy is less important.

If you can't see how a media figure using his listeners to put pressure on office holders to obstruct the president's agenda (and to have so much influence that anyone in the Republican Party who disagrees with him is immediately forced to apologize) is news, I don't know what to tell you.
