How to effectivly kill gimmick matches...

That would actually be really cool. A table battle royal match where the object is to throw your opponent over the top and through a table. That would have been cool during WWE's Hardcore matches during 2001 with Raven, Rhyno, etc. XPW did that in 1999 to crown their first champion. I think CZW may've done it too, but I may be wrong. XPW definitely did it, though.

  9. I'm really interested in getting my hands on a copy of the July (or was it June?) 2000 Extra TV story on XPW and its porno parent company, Extreme Associates. I'll pay a reasonable amount for it. I'd like it in VHS format (I know probably anyone who has it has it in that format, but I don't know, maybe they transferred it to DVD or something...but I'd only buy if its VHS). My e-mail is [email protected]. Feel free to drop me a line if you have it, and I'll get back to you ASAP because I'm VERY interested in purchasing this tape. Thanks.
  10. Classic Championship Wrestling “A Night of Destruction” Saturday, April 17, 2004 The Stahr Armory gym Lancaster, PA ATTENDANCE: about 70 people, including kids (of both genders), some primarily male (although some female) teenagers, quite a bit of middle-aged men, and even four or so older women Before the show began, I did an interview with ECW veteran Rockin’ Rebel, covering solely his time with CZW. To say that he is unhappy with CZW owner John Zandig is a vast understatement. A full recap of the interview will be posted in the coming days on ObsessedWithWrestling.com. The show begins with a guy in a suit coming to the ring and introducing the show. MATCH #1: Three-Way Elimination Match: Rockin’ Rebel (w/ “Tough Enough” Greg Matthews) vs. Johnny Granpecker (sp?) vs. Alex Winner (sp?) Matthews is wearing a cast, pretending that he’s injured. I must say – Orton looks JUST like Randy Orton, only a little taller and a bit more muscular…but WOW, they look a lot alike. Anyway, Rebel was introduced as weighing “1,000 lb., including sperm and scrotum.” That was the first sign that we were going to be in for a fun night. Then, he cut a pre-match promo that – like always – really is too funny for words. He ripped on both opponents, their mothers, some ringside fans, *their* mothers, and some other people. Man, just the classic heel-style mic work that you’ve come to expect from Rebel. Granpecker was wearing a Rey Mysterio Jr. mask for this match. Rebel let the other two guys start the match and instead sat down at my bleachers to chat with some fans, allowing his opponents to wrestle for a few minutes before he ran in and attacked. He pinned Granpecker after a running leg drop out of the corner, thereby eliminating him. Next, Winner was decimated by Rebel. Included was some referee distraction, allowing for Greg Matthews to beat on Winner behind the ref’s back. Rebel eventually pinned his second opponent with another running leg drop out of the corner. Victorious, Rebel left the ring and headed backstage, but he told me that he was going to leave quickly because he had to hightail it to 3PW (which was running an hour and a half away at Viking Hall) the same night. He worked a tag team match on that show. Greg Matthews – still wearing the cast on his arm – sat at ringside near the merchandise table for the rest of the night. Next, Damien Destruction and Max Havok – collectively known as Fag4 – came out to the ring. Their manager, J.R., accompanied them. J.R. is a middle aged man whose heel-oriented gestures, interaction with the fan, and general mannerisms were really over with the fans (anotherwards, they hated him with a passion, but in a good way). After a promo by this group, the next match occurred. MATCH #2: CCW Light Heavyweight Title – “Sureshot” Derek Wayne © vs. Andrew Rogers This was a fine match, especially considering that it was only the second one of the night. Rogers dodged Derek’s Flying Somersault Senton and took a bag out of Doug Williams, hitting a CHAOS THEORY~! That was followed by a powerful Tilt-a-Whirl Sideslam and then a 450° Splash off of the top turnbuckle, but Derek avoided that and then hit a Blockbuster (Flying Somersault Neckbreaker) for the pinfall win and title retention. MATCH #3: Max Havok (w/ J.R. and Damien Destruction) vs. Big Hink (w/ his tag team partner Lobo Loco and also a female valet) Big Hink looks like a smaller version of Big Vito, while his partner, Lobo Loco, looks like a taller and slightly whiter version of Homicide. During this match, Havok hit an Elbow Drop off of the second turnbuckle. Big Hink eventually fought back with a Powerslam, but Havok’s tag team partner, Damien Destruction, interfered, allowing Havok to hit a fisherman’s suplex for the win. MATCH #4: Devon Moore (w/ Cobra) vs. Ryan Loot This was – in my opinion – the best match of the night, but I’ll admit – the semi-main event gave it a run for it’s money. Loot reminds me of LXW/NYWC/PWA’s Spyder, since they’re both like 18 or 19, they both have a high-flying style, and they both have similar builds. Just to give you an idea of his athleticism – Loot entered the ring by catapulting himself over the ring ropes, and he then landed on the middle turnbuckle before – all in one motion – doing a backflip and landing on his feet on the ring mat, all in one motion. Good stuff, and this was even before the match began. Devin – playing the heel – attacked Loot before the bell rang, thereby starting the bout. Loot fought back and took Devin out at ringside with a Jerry Lynn-style Vertical Plancha off of the top turnbuckle. Back in the ring, Devin mounted a comeback with a Randy Savage-esque Flying Elbow Drop for 2, at which point he goes for a PHOENIX SPLASH~! off of the top buckle, but misses and goes SPLAT! This gives Loot an opening and allows for him to climb up and hit a Five-Star Frog Splash for his own 2 count. Somewhere around this time, (although I don’t remember exactly when) Loot hit a really impressive sunset flip where – after running off of the ropes – he leaped several feet in the air over Devin, to the point that I initially wasn’t even sure what he was going for. Then, he suddenly tucked his head and executed the front flip, in the process taking Devin down into the sunset flip. But WOW…it was a very nice spot that he got some GREAT air on. Anyway, somewhere around this time, Devin comes back with a Money Maker (Double Underhook Piledriver) for a 2 count, but then receives a Hurricane DDT (Canadian Back Rack DDT) from Loot. At this point, Greg Matthews – who had been watching the show from the merchandise table – gets on the mic and interrupts the match, going on a spiel about – what else? – himself. He says – among other things – that he’ll return on the next CCW show and will wrestle. Matthews enters the ring and is repeatedly tapped on the back by Devin and told that they’re trying to have a match in the ring right now. Matthews keeps telling him to give him one more minute, but eventually surprises Devin by attacking him, and then doing the same towards Loot. With both participants down, Matthews leaves the ring and lets the match continues. Devin wins with a running Yakuza Kick followed by a Quebrada (which gets some nice hang time). INTERMISSION Intermission lasts at least half an hour, and it seemed even longer. J-Money was signing copies of his $15 “Best of” DVD. MATCH #5: Damien Destruction vs. Lobo Loco Early in, Damien tries a swinging neckbreaker, but they completely botch it. Damien then brings a “STOP” sign into the fray and DDTs Loco onto it. Loco fought back with a sweet-looking Cobra Clutch Flatliner, and then drilled his finisher, an Air Raid Crash. However, one of Damien’s allies (there’s Max Havok and then another dude whose name I’m not sure of that comprise the promotion’s top heel stable [called “Fag4”] along with Damien and J.R.) pulls the referee out of the ring at 2, which gives Damien an opportunity to hit a Fallaway Slam Hold into a Side Sitdown Uranage (D’Lo Brown/Rosey’s move) for the pinfall win. After the match, Loco’s partner, Big T, challenges the heels to a CCW Tag Team Title match for later on in the night. The heels accept the challenge. MATCH #6: “Outlaw” Drew Pain vs. Keenan Quinn Pain comes out to the theme song of the old MTV show, “Fear,” which used to follow WWF Sunday Night HeAT at one point. I think this is The H8 Club’s CZW theme, “Voodoo,” by Godsmack, but I may be wrong. Regardless, it’s an awesome song. Pain appears to be at least in his thirties, to the point that during the match, a fan in the crowd yelled something like, “Hey, Quinn! Stop assaulting your dad!” Pain looks a little bit like former-CZW/XPW star Justice Pain, only older and with long hair that extends a bit past his shoulders. Pain got some cheers by doing a Flair strut, but eventually lost when Quinn got a schoolboy for the surprise pinfall win. The timekeeper or whomever’s job it is missed their cue and the bell didn’t ring until a good minute and a half or so after the fall occurred. MATCH #7: CCW-Style “Anything Goes” Match for the CCW Heavyweight Title– J-Money vs. The Saint © J-Money uses the theme from the current TV sensation, Donald Trump’s “Apprentice,” and it then segues into a song with the chorus, “Make Me A Superstar! I Don’t Know Who You Are!” Before the match begins, J-Money sets up a table at ringside. The fans chant, “TLC!” hoping to see tables, ladders, and chairs. Well, they got three-out-of-the-three. There were some nice moves during the first few minutes including an Inverted DDT, a Russian Leg Sweep, and a Fisherman’s Suplex (the fisherman’s I remember was done by J-Money, but I forget who did the others). J-Money then hits a Randy Savage-style Flying Elbow Drop and delivers a Spinebuster onto a table that he bought into the ring. However, it didn’t break, so he resorted to a powerbomb, which was completely botched, so the table remained unbroken. J-Money then resorted to a Uranage (Rock Bottom), but that only broke one leg of the table, so he did one last Uranage, which FINALLY broke the table. WOW…that took awhile. The Saint fights back and sets J-Money on a ringside table before putting him through it with a Flying Splash off of the top turnbuckle. Back in the ring, The Saint gets a 2 count, and a few moments later, J-Money comes back with an inverted version of John Cena’s Proto Bomb. Cena’s version of the move is a Backdrop Suplex-style Lift into a Uranage. However, instead of starting in a belly-to-back position, J-Money started the move as a Northern Lights Suplex, and then spun The Saint into a bulldog-style face slam. Also, unlike Cena’s version of the move, he sat down while doing so. The move looked weird and interesting at the same time. The Saint wins by charging at J-Money and leaping into a wheelbarrow, at which point he takes J-Money down into a victory roll for the 2 count, thereby retaining his title. After the match, J-Money pretends to be pissed off and plays as if he’s going to be a sore loser and just walk off. However, some encouragement from the fans and The Saint eventually lead to him re-entering the ring and shaking hands with and hugging his foe. MATCH #6 (Main Event): For the vacant CCW Heavyweight (hey, that’s what the ring announcer said) Tag Team Titles – Fag4 (Max Havok & Damien Destruction) vs. The Dawg Pound (Big Hink & Lobo Loco) (w/ female valet) The Dawg Pound – to say the least – are EXTREMELY over with the small, yet enthusiastic, CCW crowd. They have a gimmick similar to the Pitbulls, so when they’re out there, they often do barking noises to the fans, who do the same in return. Early into the match, Havok hits a leg drop, and – a few moments later – grabs a steel chair and SMASHES it over Loco’s head. The sound that that object made upon contact on Loco’s head was *INCREDIBLY* SICK. Loco hits an Inverted DDT, at which point the match degenerates into a brawl around the gym. Havok suplexes Big Hink onto the concrete floor, but Lobo attacks Havok with a dropkick (on the floor). A few moments later and back in the ring, Loco hits his second Air Raid Crash of the night. After Big Hink is put through a ringside table by Damien, who leaps off from halfway up a ladder and executes a Splash, Loco Powerbombs Havok through a table in the ring and pins him to win the CCW Tag Team Titles for The Dawg Pound. Even though the match is over, the chaotic brawl continues. During the fray, one fan in the front row gets too close to the ring and even puts his knee up onto the apron, seemingly about to climb in. That sparks an official to yell at him to “Get out!” (anotherwards, out of the building) The third member of Fag4 (who I don’t think wrestled on this show, so I’m not sure of his name) hightails it over and gets things calmed down. The guy who tried to enter the ring sits back down in his seat and is allowed to stay. Anyway, Damien and this third member of Fag4 attack The Dawg Pound after the match. Damien even goes so far as to wheel about a 12 foot tall scaffold out of a corner of the gym and over next to the ring. He climbs up onto the top floor of it and – after hesitating for a couple of minutes – leaps off with a Flying Elbow Drop onto one of the members of The Dawg Pound, who is being held down in the ring by a member of Fag4 who I don’t remember. The Fag4 member lets go of the D.P. member at the last possible moment, and without hesitation the D.P. member rolls out of the way, leaving nothing but mat for Damien to CRASH down onto. A huge “Holy Sh*t!” chant begins, as a young boy runs backstage, grabs the tag team titles, and rushes them to the referee, who in turn hands them to the new champions, The Dawg Pound. CCW's next show will be on 5/29 in Marysville, PA at the Lions Club. The doors will open at 7:30 PM. For more info on CCW, check out its official website at ccwwrestling.netfirms.com/

Quick preview of Rockin' Rebel interview I did

They also team in World-1. I'll also ask him what it's been like to team with Jack. Hopefully those questions can be added to this interview.
  12. I did an interview with ECW veteran Rockin' Rebel this past weekend at a CCW show in Langcaster, PA. We focused exclusively on his CZW-related endeavors, since the article was to be posted on CZDub.com. However, to be frank - that probably isn't going to happen. The interview, to say the least, was extremeLy anti-CZW. Rebel told me that he is VERY unhappy with the way John Zandig is running CZW and the way he's treating his talent. In our interview, Rebel discusses: - how he got into CZW - what his initial impressions of John Zandig were when he first met him - what he thinks of John Zandig now - his reaction to The Backseat Boyz' departure from CZW - what it's been like to work with Greg Matthews over the past few years - what it's been like to work with Derek Frazier over the past year and a half - why Zandig refuses to push Frazier, regardless of how over he is with the fans - the scoop on Zandig's abuse of political power when it came to Rebel and Matthew's bookings outside of CZW - Zandig's disrespect towards his talent and unwillingness to take advice - working with Justin Credible a few months ago in CZW - working for WORLD-1, and how Steve Corino compares (or shall I say, doesn't compare) to John Zandig as a boss - his opinion on WORLD-1 - the scoop on his dealings with XPW when they came to Philly - what he expects from CZW in the coming months - and more Some of what he said I won't be able to print because: 1. He told me it was off the record. And 2. Quite frankly, I don't want him to lose his CZW job, and that would probably happen if I printed some of the stuff he said about Zandig. To say the least, though, Rebel is extremely disgruntled regarding CZW and more specifically John Zandig. Also, I'll give a quick example of one thing he had to say. As recently reported, Greg Matthews recently left CZW. Here's what Mike Johnson had to say about the matter: According to Rebel, that report is pretty accurate, but it goes significantly deeper. Matthews - according to Rebel - "was tired of John Zandig's shit" and got out of CZW while he still could. And he's been gone from the company for several months now. It's nothing new, although the story really just now became public. More on the reason Matthews left in the next week, when I post the recap of my interview with Rockin' Rebel. Also, within the next two or three days, expect a full report from the CCW show this past Saturday. It featured Matthews, Rebel, and some various non-well-known indy wrestlers from the area.

TNA Looking To Start House Shows

As PWI said, the XPW Pittsburgh show was EXTREMELY profitable - in fact, the most profitable show in XPW's history. In his hometown, Douglas is absolute gold. I can't speak on ECW because I didn't even know heo had that much say in their financial workings.

The OAO What's this move thread

In Random Fan's review of the CZW Fake You TV show the move was used on, he said something like Sonjay goes up top and flies off with the Bollywood Splash. So, I don't know. YOu may be right, but from that it sounds like a move from the top buckle...

Grand Master Sexay returns to WWE

I haven't watched RAW in several weeks, but WOW...this thread caught my attention upon entering the WWE forum... I've always thought Brian was underrated. He's a really solid worker, IMO. He's got a great look and gimmick and of course lots of charisma. I think people are unfair about his workrate, though. He's SO much better than Scotty 2 Hotty. Jesus, speaking of Scotty...where the hell is Scotty these days? I remember he was on TV like two months ago. Has he been on since then?

    Bobby Rogers/Michael Rapuano ARRESTED

WOW, there is a God. That piece of shit got what was coming to him for years. I've never been able to stand him. He's a worthless asshole who should rot in jail. He's violated probation and stuff so many times ever since the mid 90's. I remember when he offered to have his finger cut off on a live ECW PPV in return for getting a spot on the ECW roster, and then getting sued by WWE for the whole Undertaker.tv, Therock.tv, Stonecold.tv, etc. deal.
