Raw 1.24.05 Speculation,Reactions & Complaints

To each his own, Kahran. Jericho has looked like a douche for a couple of years now with his fading physique and horrible offense. I don't think you'd be clamoring for him to be depushed because he doesn't look the part had they done right with his career/push over the past few years. Agreed on the Orton as a face comment. -

Think about what you are saying. Batista looks great now, but just because he's 36 doesn't mean he's been waiting around to recieve this opportunity in wrestling for 10 years or something. Orton was brought up in the business and may have been wrestling before Batista even fathomed a career in the sport. I'd venture to say if Orton had been kept heel and allowed to continue the following he was getting (much like Batista has now) he'd have looked a lot more justifiable in the position he is in. I am a fan of his work and effort and he does absolutely NOTHING for me right now, to the point to where I can't stand to watch him try to pull this bogus, paint-by-numbers character off. That has nothing to do with age. If you want to play that card, why aren't our smark darlings Jericho and Regal getting a bone thrown at them for thier age? -

Michaels/Angle staredown in Japan

Who does HBK put over though? All signs point to Edge getting the duke and progressing to a higher status after a win over HBK at the Royal Rumble. Then, if HBK/Angle goes down at Mania, would Shawn lay down? Doubtful. That would suck for Angle, but 2 straight high profile losses after getting defeated time and time again by Triple H (who is being booked as a total pussy in his Batista feud) would really look like shit for Shawn and he knows it. Pick your poison. -
DDP, while old, had not wrestled for very long. He was over and a cornerstone of WCW in its last 5 years. Was Undertaker not old? Heidenreich, is un-over, un-proven in the ring, sucks on the mic, and has nothing going for him. HE is the type of guy Taker should be making his bitch. DDP got nowhere NEAR the type of offensive progression Heidenreich has. Although you haven't seen the guy, I'm sure you can imagine what he's like.
-
Right, Heidenreich is leagues better than Page ever was. More deserving of the spot too. That's their perspective, not mine. I've never even seen the guy. What could you possibly have to add to this thread, then? Jokes.
-
As much as I have a hard time letting go of people I never thought got to where they should have, DDP could not produce much of anything ever again in WWE gien his age, health and complete burial in the WWE 3 years ago. At that moment when it all went down, old man or not, DDP could have done so much more than he was given. He could have been a success. Denying that is the same as saying Bret Hart was finished and wasn't worth a dime when he left WWF for WCW. What was done to him killed his career and tooke away the few years he still could have kicked serious ass.

Yeah, just like DDP did, right?

Meltzer on JBL's Wrestlemania opponent
Just call me Dan replied to JoeDirt's topic in The WWE Folder
UYI, that is a big part of it. With the probable roster switches after Mania, JBL will have lots of fresh faces gunning for the title, allowing Cena to step front and center and collect that title shot he never recieved all the while JBL held the title. JBL beat all those and then some from the 2004 Smackdown era, and Cena kicks off the 2005 against those new people. -

I, for one, kind of want to see Rock/JBL. Layfield has been given quite the lengthy title reign, and something has to be done with it. As much as I look at who Rock would be putting over and don't really like it, it makes sense. JBL has beaten all the face challengers for his title on numerous occasions. Yes, he cheated, but he's beat them all, and then beaten them all in rematches. Now, all he has left to do is gloat. He doesn't even see Cena with his stronghold over the midcard, and he could care less. As he spouts on and on about his name being up there with greats such as The Rock, Rock comes back to make him prove it. Here, he gets a clean win without hurting anyone else on the dwindling Smackdown card, and, in the best way possible, legitimizes his reign and his character. This paves the way for Cena to get the rub he may not have gotten by just beating JBL without a win like this. JBL going over Rocky makes him look great, and Cena winning the title even better for Cena. Rock, in turn, puts over two guys. -
I'm really late, but happy birthday, bro. One of my favorite posters ever.

The winged eagle title is fucking gorgeous. -
After watching (finally) the best of Confidential DVD, I caught wind of the comments on the DDP title reigns. All of the guys basically laughed the guy off and Ric flair even treating him like some douche bag who had it in his head that he was a true champion really got me wondering what some of you all think. I've heard all the "wife swapping" stories and how Eric and Page were so close, etc. I don't need much of a history lesson. While I was obviously nothing but a mark at the time, I watched WCW heavily during the time DDP was on his hottest of streaks. IMO, he was VERY over, worked hard, and worked his way up. What more could he have done to deserve the World Heavyweight title? I don't understand how he could be pissed on so horribly when he did his fair share of jobs (of course not including Benoit), was over with the crowd, had a unique style/gimmick, and worked hard. Is it just me or does everyone just have a stick up thier ass now that they are in the only promotion in town and he's on the outs? Do you feel the same way they do and consider DDP a piss on and a paper champion?
-
It seems to me like Flair, who has been notorious for ill-advised comments lately said this because he was not on top of the politcal game at that time. How can he shit on the guy who was in with the boss and worked well enough to easily gain high card status, when his current boy does the same thing 100X worse right now??
-
How long were his title reigns? I remember one of his later reigns when he was involved with his triad (Bigelow and Kanyon) to make him look pretty low on the card and second rate, much like Jericho's in WWE. But no one can discredit Jericho as a performer and as someone who was truly over and had a connection with the fans. I think DDP could be in the same ship, but apparently, a lot of wrestlers do not.

These are my favorite matches of the year. In no order, of course. Kane/Benoit - Bad Blood - Best big man vs little man match I've seen in a long time. Kane's best match ever, IMO. Finish was superb. Benoit/Orton - Summerslam - Benoit fucking killed himslef in his bumps in the match. Great job of putting Orton and the RKO over until the next month. Eddie/Angle, 2 out of 3 falls - Smackdown - The best of the three matches. I enjoyed all three, but the story told here and Eddie coming just short sold me on this one. Excellent match. Orton/Foley - Backlash - Orton's bump made me jump right out of my seat. Foley's promos were gold and the lengthy build hyped this up for me better than any other match during the year. It paid off in my eyes. Royal Rumble match - Royal Rumble - Superbly booked without the flat finish of the 2003 Rumble. Eddie/Lesnar - No Way Out - Most people's MOTY. I really enjoyed it and the moment of Eddie winning, but the Figure 4 on the wrong knee and the killing of the crowd (and me) with the holds that no one bought as finishes brought it down a notch for me. It was like a match with two many obvious 2 counts. Eddie/JBL - Judgement Day - So fucking brutal it was off the charts. The fact that Eddie dragged such a good match of ouf JBL surprised me, and I thought he performed impecibly well. Best (or maybe the worst) bladejob I've ever witnessed. HHH/HBK/Benoit - Wrestlemania - Surreal. The match was as smooth as silk and the finish gave me the first real markout I had had since the nWo came back in 2002. HBK/Kane - Unforgiven - Fun as hell match that saw Shawn bumping like a crazy man in his 1st match back. the sit up/kip up spot among many others were cute enough to give this a nod. Very fun. HHH/HBK - Taboo Tuesday - Shawn sold incredibly well here and this was so unformulatic for him it worked well. His faces and the fact that HHH applied the figure four to the correct fucking knee for the first time I've seen it done in years got me into it.
-
But of course. I'm not getting Taboo either. Fuck these extra PPVs. I buy them all. My DVD collection is pushing 100+. I feel that way at times, but there always seems to be one thing about a PPV that makes me want to buy it. As much as GAB sucked, the WWE title changed hands in a ***+ match , so therefore, I bought it. Taboo Tuesday featured Benjamin's 1st singles title win ever, the culmination of what seemed to be a push for an unknown (Gene Snitsky), 2 good main events. Gotta pick it up. Plus after marking out like a little bitch when HHH applied the Figure Four on the CORRECT KNEE, which I haven't seen done in years, I was satisfied in my pickups.

Wait, was there a Brahma Bull title? I don't recall that one other than the fake one released by Jakks along with an Undertaker version as well. -

A title belt with ZERO gold on it just doesn't look very prestigious to me. -
WTF? Milk is white and is a liquid. Jizz/cum/man juice is white-ish and is also a liquid. Understand? Oh, I understood the 1st time. The comment, though, came out of left field to me. I don't ever remember mentioning milk and/or it being used in Angle/Lesnar backstage happenings.
-
That's totally understandable. Perhaps I misread your comments as I thought you did mean Lesnar was bad because of those opponents. Lesnar may not be the top of the line worker that a Benoit, Eddie, etc could be considered, but he was quickly approaching that as time wnet by. I can certainly say Lesnar has the capability to become one of those in the future, though. As far as the loss to Goldberg at WMXX, I think it was the right decision as Goldberg fufilled all of his contractual duties whereas Lesnar did not. Lesnar can overcome that easily because it was such a phoned in, horrific match that really meant nothing. Goldberg can someday come back and be in a top position because of the lack of a loss at the end of his last stint and fans , IMO would easily still buy Lesnar upon a return because he could have so much left in his tank. Goldberg does not.
