Stern needs to make an executive decision and seed the entire playoffs by record this year. I looked at the standings for the first time in a while this morning, and it's stunning that we're on pace to have a 50-win team left at home in the West while three 35-win teams (or WORSE!) are still playing in the East.

That was the report when they shut him down in August. Apparently, the surgery went very well, and he could be back sometime after the All-Star break.

The Orioles will lose 100 games this season. I think Tampa Bay should be considered the favourite to finish at least third in the East. The Jays aren't anything special this year, and I think they'll struggle to reach .500. I don't think it's much of a stretch to see the Rays winning 85 games. Do I think they'll make the playoffs? Not this year. Do I think they're on the rise? Definitely.

No. He is not. Uh-uh. Negative. Nyet. Goalie in playoffs he not. God, we are so fucked.

Can I pick? Screw it, it's been over 30 hours, I'm picking. Denver Broncos select DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal. For the first time in a while, the Broncos are lacking at receiver, with Javon Walker often hurt and wanting a trade, Rod Smith reaching the end of the line, and only Brandon Marshall being a consistent possession receiver. Jackson gives them the kind of deep threat they need to keep opponents from stacking against the run, and should eventually become a favourite of Jay Cutler. He also is a very dangerous punt returner, and figures to contribute on special teams.

Having watched Ottawa play this week, I'm almost at the point where I'm ready to say that this just isn't the Senators' year, despite having the third-best record in the league to this point. Nothing is really coming together, and if anything, the defence is regressing. Of course, anything can happen in the playoffs, but I'm just not feeling it right now.

The 1914 Boston Braves. -
That's insane. Tampa would have to have absolutely everything go right for them, and then hope for a stunning collapse by the Yankees, to even finish second in the division, and that's still no guarantee of a playoff spot with the Indians and Tigers in the Central.

Connors was a nasty piece of shit when he was winning Grand Slams. You're probably thinking of the kindler, gentler Connors from his comeback in the early 90s. Webber did it in the 1993 title game against North Carolina. Biggest collapse not mentioned: Greg Norman at the 1996 Masters. -

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, so my response... Not true. As someone who's kept time for university games, I can attest to how this works. The clock constantly records tenths of a second, but doesn't display them until the final minute. So, when you see the clock go from 1:00 to 59.9, the one-second pause is actually the clock counting down from 1:00.9 to 1:00.0. If you notice, the clock goes from 12:00 to 11:59 immediately after it's started, because there's no pause between 12:00 and 11:59.9. -

My wife saw a Leaf fan fighting with a Sens fan last year at the ACC during a Leafs-Sens game. Leaf fan was tossed. The pinnacle of fighting in the stands (maybe stretching the definition a bit) has to be the time a Flyers fan was abusing Tie Domi (who was in the penalty box), but leaned up against the glass so hard that the glass gave way and the Flyers fan suddenly found himself IN the penalty box with Domi. Hilarity ensued. Next question: What was the first sporting event you attended live? -

Dude, forget '92... watch '89; Hogan at his cheatin' best, and Ventura apoplectic about all of it... That match was amazing to watch for Jesse's commentary alone. That was (I think) where Hogan debuted the spot where he goes for the three elbowdrops, and instead of dropping the third elbow, he stops, looks out at the crowd, and rakes the guy's eyes with his boot. To which Jesse exclaims, "I'll tell you what -- I don't understand how the Pukesters can cheer for this guy. He's as dirty as they get, Gorilla!" -
