Don't even get me started on that one. -
Let's Talk About....WrestleMania IV
CanadianChris replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
Was there ANYONE Hogan didn't feel he was too far above at that point? I could never say a bad word about this show, since RANDY SAVAGE WON THE MF'ING WORLD TITLE. That was easily my biggest markout moment as a kid. It was super-long, yes, but it served its purpose as far as storytelling goes. Savage having to win four matches, and having to defeat a guy who'd only wrestled once in the semis, and a guy who'd only wrestled twice in the final, was a great story. Shortening the tournament to three rounds, or something along those lines, wouldn't have had near as much impact. -
Jayson Stark had a great entry on his blog of the hearings:

Yeah, there were tons of Laker fans there. We even got a decent "MVP" chant going when Kobe was at the line at the end. The Heat fans were a bit better than I was expecting (though still not that great)...until they all started filing out in the last two minutes, despite their team mounting a mini-comeback.
-
That's huge, and they didn't have to touch the core players to do it. Corvo, while having a good season, was in the third defence pairing, and Eaves was frequently injured and just wasn't getting enough playing time to warrant being kept. Awesome deal.

Yeah, just got back today. We fly home tomorrow morning.

I'll also take the Vikings unless someone else wants them.

Lakers/Heat was really closer than it should have been. I didn't think Gasol played very well -- he had a bad shooting afternoon and was careless with the ball at times. If not for a great game by Odom, the Lakers probably lose. They introduced Marion before the game and let him speak to the crowd for a minute, and he got a terrific ovation.

A slight reach, but: 2B Ian Kinsler, Rangers The infield looks to be shaping up nicely.

I'll be at the Lakers/Heat game this afternoon. I doubt he would have played in any event, but I was still annoyed when I heard Shaq was traded just a few days ago, since I was hoping to see him play when I got the tickets.

I'm back, and I've got new standings: Updated standings - February 10, 2008 (changes in red) 45 - Darthtiki, Toshiaki Koala, Vern Gagne

I'll take Denver again.

Yes, it has to happen sometime. It's already happened in the women's tournament. At some point, a good team will get a 16 seed and draw a 1 seed with flaws that can be exploited, or injury issues, or a tendency to play down to the level of their competition. What athlete scared you the most as a kid? -
Tuesday, yes, but not now. FIFTEEN POINTS for the big line last night. I don't think I've ever seen one line that dominant in a single game.
-
I'd play, but I'm gone for two weeks

I have to answer this one, just to say mine was a second-round playoff game between the Devils and Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre. The Devils scored about five minutes in, then sucked the life out of the game, the crowd, everything. 1-0 was the final score. -
So, what's the over/under on the end date for the strike, now that the DGA has reached an agreement with the studios?

God, yes. 1994 was horrid. The only redeeming factor was the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup, but the NHL screwed THAT up with the lockout. And the Winter Olympics weren't bad. What was the most lopsided trade in any of the major North American sports? -

Jerry Rice in XXIII (11 rec, 215 yds, 1 TD). What sporting record seemed the most unbelievable to you when you first heard of it? -
Someone had Suharto last year and dropped him this year, and is kicking himself.

I say no. A dynasty means championships, period. The Braves of the 90s could never be considered a dynasty because they only won one title. The Colts have been the second-best team in football since realignment, but no one would ever think of them a dynasty, unless they could pull off another two or three titles in the next five years, which seems pretty unlikely. As for forgetting a team that wins a bunch of games, does anyone remember anything about the 2001 Mariners? Gretzky, just because he completely rewrote the record book and redefined hockey. There may well be another MJ, but there will never be another Wayne Gretzky. What do you consider to be the most difficult feat in sports? -
That's what I was implying -- have all division winners make the playoffs, regardless of their standing in the conference, but then seed the eight playoff teams according to record. Carolina would be the eighth seed in this case.

Wasn't Savage's face turn driven more by the fact that he finally started standing up for Elizabeth against the Honky Tonk Man, and Hogan giving his seal of approval simly sealed the deal? Not really, the entire face turn was one match on SNME. Honky Tonk Man was fighting Savage heel vs heel, and HTM got DQ'd or something. Anywyas, the end result was the Hart Foundation coming out and beating up Savage and holding him so HTM could bash him with the guitar. Liz interjected in front of Savage, so HTM shoved her aside. This prompted Hogan to make the save, and Savage was a face after that. That match was definitely not heel vs. heel. Savage was clearly a face at that point, defending Liz and his reputation from repeated verbal bashings by Honky in the weeks leading up to the match. He got a big face pop on his entrance, too.
