    The Old School questions thread

Based on everything I've read, that was the plan the whole time. Whether or not the rumours of Austin being booked to win the title at Final Four and the finish being changed on the fly due to his injury during the match are true, whoever was winning the title was scheduled to drop it to Sid the next night to further the Bret/Austin issue and set up Sid/Taker for the strap at WM XIII.

No. Bergman's another one that people had last year but not this year.

    The Harry Potter Spoilers Thread

I'll take a stab at it... Before the spells were cast, Harry speculated that the Elder Wand might know he was its true master instead of Voldemort. If that's true, Voldemort couldn't use the wand to kill its rightful master, and any spell he tried to cast against Harry with the wand might be reflected back by any spell Harry (as the wand's true master) performed on him. Sheer guesswork, I know, but I can't think of another reasonable explanation.

    What did you eat today?

I just had a piece of chocolate cake. My wife had dinner at her parents' and called me to say she was bringing home a piece of chocolate cake that was the best chocolate cake she'd ever had. I had it, and it was OK, but a huge letdown after all the buildup. I wouldn't even put it in my top 10.

Natalie Gulbis won the Evian Masters. That should halt the Anna Kournikova comparisons.

I'm the same way, because I hate having vegetables after they've gotten cold.

Major restaurants and stores not in your area?

Yeah, K-Mart pulled out of Canada completely a few years ago. The one in the neighbourhood where I grew up had a great row of arcade games. It shared space with a Loblaws. Made Saturday morning grocery shopping with Mom more tolerable.

Major restaurants and stores not in your area?

Only the Clifton Hill restaurants are way overpriced. I went to a Denny's away from downtown (on Lundy's Lane) and the prices seemed pretty much normal.

    NHL Offseason - 2007

Roy signed a six year deal, not four. I knew there was something wrong with Derek Roy getting $6m/yr.

Chain mergers / Corporate brand extensions

Yeah, Mac's bought out Becker's awhile before Couche-Tard bought them all. Pretty much every Mac's in Kingston had an arcade game in it when I was growing up, but then I grew up in the 80s, when arcade games were huge. That probably has more to do with why you don't see them anymore, plus the fact that you get tons of kids in there just to play the game and not buy anything. On the original topic -- I was disappointed when Eaton's closed and Sears bought out all the stores. Not that I thought Eaton's was a really great store or anything, but it was just another little piece of Canadiana gone. Oh, and Little Caesar's buying out Mother's Pizza was just WRONG.

I'm doing research for my trip to NYC next month. Assuming you had to choose one or the other -- Nathan's or Gray's Papaya?

Major restaurants and stores not in your area?

There are a few that I've seen -- Mary Brown's still has a few stores open, although not as many as they did when I was in university. Dixie Lee is another chicken franchise; their stores are mostly in smaller towns. I remember from my childhood that we always used to pass one on the way to my grandmother's house in Napanee. I also remember there being a TGI Fridays in the Clifton Hill area in Niagara Falls the last time I was there. It's the only Fridays I've ever seen in Canada, though.

    This Week in Baseball 7/23 - 7/29

Help me out here because I'm a little confused. Why was this game "suspended" instead of just rain-shortened? Because the Yankees came from behind and took the lead in the inning the game was suspended in? Meaning the Orioles need the chance to play the bottom of the inning in case they can catch up? If that's the case, are they just finishing the inning or playing to the end of the game? It's covered under Rule 4.12(a)(5):

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

I'm really at a loss for keepers. Hunter Pence is the only lock at this point. Maybe Oliver Perez. I'd keep Okajima if they'd make him the closer for next year, but I doubt that'd happen, and I'm not keeping a guy just for holds. I agree with Krankor's idea of a minimum of four keepers and a maximum of 6. You should be able to turn your team over more or less than others if you so choose.

Favorite Crowd Reactions to Face/Heel Turns?

My favourite was the Hogan heel turn. It was an unbelievable sight, with all that garbage in the ring at the end. Mean Gene looked like he was going to snap and kill someone with all the trash he was getting hit with.

In that case, there should be no surprise there, unless you've never had more than two minutes of a White Sox game on in the last 20 years. i don't have any chicago channels. we got this one through a canadian sportsnet channel. honest to god, he's the worst sporting announcer ever. ever. Yep. I think the day he wins the Ford Frick Award might be the day I stop watching baseball for good. And before anyone laughs, he was a finalist this year.

We finally get this folder out into the open, and the first thing people do is start talking about books. Well done.

    This Week in Baseball 7/23 - 7/29

The Blue Jays hung an 11-run 6th (tying a team record) on the Twins this afternoon en route to a 13-1 win and the sweep. Now, watch them struggle to score a run in their next game. That seems to be the way it goes -- explode for a ton of unnecessary runs one game and get beat 1-0 or 2-1 the next.

If you can't putt, you can't be a pro to start with. Anyone on the juice will still have enough skill in the short game. Extra distance could give them the push they need to get onto one of the big tours. And there's nothing that says you have to look like a bodybuilder if you're on steroids. All steroids do is help you train more frequently by reducing the need for rest. Whatever training you do, you have a better chance of achieving your desired goal on steroids than off.
