I think that if I could be anyone else in the world, I would be Mark Cuban.

JUST ONCE I want to see the Jays sweep someone. That's not an unreasonable request, is it? Of course, it's hard to sweep many teams when you have a nearly automatic L going every five days.
-
Couldn't hurt. They'd probably laugh at the idea that someone from Florida would want to watch hockey, though.

Two more runs in the second, and Towers is off to the showers. I may start calling him Josh "Early" Showers. Hopefully Downs can hold things together long enough to let the offence play catch up.
-
Yeah, they need to axe these and bring in more coverage of athletes getting busted for drugs, beating up their wives and raping women.
-
Josh Towers makes me want to hurt people. 2 runs on four hits in the first, and two of the outs were nearly extra base hits, but for some good defensive work by the outfielders. Towers needs to be the one to go down to Syracuse when Chacin comes off the DL. He has lost all confidence in himself and his abilities.

I wonder if Boston would make a hard run at him just to keep him from going to New York, where he could really be useful. The way he's going now, though, is he really going to help ANYONE? It's not like he's going along like Randy Johnson in '04, he's getting hammered most of the time.

They just showed the Canadian anthem being belted out by the fans in Edmonton last night on Sportscentre. Gave me chills.

Make sure you use your good hand. I saw Phoenix making the West finals in the second half of the season, when it became apparent that San Antonio and Dallas were headed for a second-round collision. The Suns were going to easily win the division, and there wasn't one team they could have faced in their half of the bracket that wasn't a winnable series for them.

Don't you think that if he'd shown someone, somewhere, that he had the talent to play in the NFL in the 80s, someone would've held onto him? Good QBs don't exactly grow on trees. Ty Detmer was a ninth-round pick despite being a Heisman winner. Gino Torretta won the Heisman and got drafted in the seventh round. Charlie Ward won it the next year and wasn't drafted at all. Danny Wuerffel was drafted in the fourth round. Same story for Chris Weinke, Eric Crouch, and Jason White. All those guys had exactly as much success as their draft standing would indicate. Winning a Heisman and having success as an NFL QB rarely go hand in hand.

He was out of the NFL for a reason. He dominated the CFL because it was a pass-happy league with undersized defenders.

Damn, Halladay's getting pulled after 8 2/3. I was expecting him to take the league lead in complete games tonight. Still, a 6-hitter over 8 2/3 is more than acceptable. I'd be talking about maybe getting the first sweep of the season tomorrow, were it not for Josh Towers getting the start.

Yeah, good on Miami's bench for stepping it up.

1-0 Oilers in the 2nd. Sign caught on camera in the front row: "Calgary Blows Cows"

A-Rod's put the game out of reach with a 3-run homer in the 7th. But they were already up 3 anyway, so it wasn't really that clutch.
-
Detroit should have the lead by halftime with both Shaq and Wade in foul trouble. Possibly a healthy one.
-
Aaron Hill hit into a predictable DP with the bases loaded and one out. I think he's hitting about .145 since his fantastic start last season. Jays are leading 2-1 after 6, but it should be more comfortable than that. They better not waste this start by Halladay, he's been terrific.

Nice start for the Heat. 9-zip. I still can't see Jim Gray without remembering his epic interview with Chad Curtis.

76% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

I didn't say you don't know anything about baseball. I merely said that you're ruining it with statistical formulas that need to be run on supercomputers. I don't like baseball enough to care to learn about how if I replaced Braden Looper with a one legged arthritic left handed specialist at night, but only on Tuesdays and Fridays that my team might have won 1.73 more games per season over a 50 year stretch. It's just too much information. The supposed beauty of baseball is that the game is still the same as it was 100 years ago, but everything has become micromanaged to the point of it often not being fun to watch anymore. A-Rod wasn't the most valuable Yankee, he shouldn't be the MVP. Any stat that says he's more crucial to the success of the Yankees than Mo is, is a stat I wipe my ass with. That's all I'm saying. You obviously don't get it. And that's fine -- it's easy to enjoy baseball without knowing any stats more complex than batting average and ERA. But to suggest that stats and statheads are ruining baseball because you don't agree with them is insulting to those of us who understand sabermetrics.

Baseball Prospectus ( http://www.baseballprospectus.com ) is a pretty good site for that sort of thing.

The Blackhawks get my vote for worst organization in all of sports.
