OMG, I just saw it and it was even funnier. Matsui just stopped dead and dared the 2B to come and tag him, but he threw to first instead, setting up the rundown. I can think of about three plays that would have been better, off the top of my head.
-
OK, that makes sense. Still funny, though.
-
Exactly. Any play where the 2B has no choice but to go to first means the runner at first couldn't possibly get caught in a rundown.
-
Strange news from Atlanta, and I didn't get the entire story...apparently, Thrashers G Pasi Nurminen has suffered a likely career-ending knee injury.
-
That just makes me want to see the highlight more. The second baseman throwing to first instead of to second or to the plate is just wretchedly bad, at least on the surface.
-
LOL...what a brain fart. Of course, the first brain fart was probably the 1B not throwing to either home or second instead of stepping on the bag. If they manage to turn the double play with two forceouts, they keep any runs from scoring at all. EDIT: OK, I'm lost now...why would the 2B make the first out at FIRST??? I'm going to have to check out the highlights on this one...that could be one of the biggest all-around infielding boners ever.
-
I'm going to hazard a guess...ball hit down to first, 1B steps on first for one out, runner on first smartly gets into a long rundown and allows the runner on second to come all the way around to score?

Wow, Mussina gave up eight runs in the fifth. How does a starter get left in to give up eight runs in any inning, let alone an inning in the second half of the game? He had given up five runs already, had clearly lost control, yet he gets left in to give up a three-run homer to Vernon Wells. I just shook my head at that one. Not that I'm complaining, as the Jays finally ended a 5-game losing streak. The Yankees might actually be better served to miss the postseason. At least that way, something might get done about this team, instead of pretending they're close to contending for a World Series. Anyway, Oakland has a share of the WC lead back, as they beat the Tigers and Cleveland also lost.

Couple more signings...Patrik Elias accepted his qualifying offer with the Devils, and Mattias Ohlund signed for four years with Vancouver to avoid arbitration.

Looks like I'll be moving the date of the roto draft back a week, as I'll likely be out of town that weekend. I'll keep everyone posted.
-
Esiason, too. Why would you pick someone who works on an NFL pregame/in-game show, who presumably needs to watch a ton of pro football during the week to prepare for his job, to participate in a COLLEGE football poll? Some of these guys won't be any better than the coaches who have their assistants fill out their ballots.

We have that here in Canada. It's called winter.
-
Yikes. That doesn't sound promising. Oh well...they fucked up Survivor with the god-awful Vanuatu season, and they came back super-strong with Palau. Hopefully, TAR will come back with a vengeance for season 9, or there will be hell to pay.

The fans for being US champ so long?

It's still closer than anything either of the other two have done. You must have missed Hossa demanding Iginla money this summer, despite never having performed on Iginla's level in any way. Hossa was NOT worth $6-$7 million in the current economic climate, and the Senators were quite right to get rid of him for someone of comparable talent with a much smaller contract. Especially if it means resigning Redden and Chara in the future.

Post of the day.
-
No, you are not. Wrestling Challenge and Superstars of Wrestling were equal to each other throughout most of their run. Superstars would get big matches and angles that would be reported on Challenge the following week, and vice versa.
-
I wouldn't be against him going down to Venezuela to do the job himself. We'd be rid of at least one of them that way.
-
Alfredsson's shown more fire in recent years. I think he was pulled down into the team-killing black hole that was Alexei Yashin, and has finally emerged. Hossa has always seemed soft, and I don't mind trading him away for someone of Heatley's calibre at all.
-
Saner heads finally prevailed and named Tim Rattay as the 49ers' starter over Alex Smith. Smart move...no point in letting the supposed future of the franchise get demolished right out of the gate.
-
Volchenkov should be ready to step up to the second pairing on D. This is a huge upgrade. Heatley needed a change of scenery, and should finally give the Senators something they've lacked for years -- a very talented Canadian forward with experience. Spezza will get there, but isn't there yet. Wow...tremendous.
-
Holy shit... Senators trade Hossa + defenceman to Thrashers for Heatley I need a few minutes to digest this before I'll know what I think about this. Incidentally, the Sens signed Hossa to a 3-year, $18M deal this morning.
-
Closely correlated with the fact that they have the worst road system ever, I'm sure.
-
The Blue Jays finally appear to be done. I'd like to believe otherwise, but I don't see them making up 5 1/2 games on three different teams with only 5 1/2 weeks left. Unfortunately, they picked the absolute worst time to go on a prolonged losing streak.

Who gets the first "this ain't ballet" reference?
