Exactly as I thought. I would've been stunned if anyone picked a team besides these two. Dallas - 5 Carolina - 2
-
Early Kansas City at Carolina - Chiefs fall back to earth on the road against a good Carolina team. Chicago at Detroit - More a pick against Detroit than for Chicago. I just have no faith in the Lions whatsoever. Atlanta at Green Bay - Packers are still good enough to beat an inexperienced Falcons team even without Aaron Rodgers. San Diego at Miami - Chargers continue to roll against weak teams. Seattle at NY Giants - Historically, Seattle is bad on the road. That trend continues despite getting a couple of receivers back. Washington at Philadelphia - Just a bad matchup for the Skins. I don't see them scoring back-to-back divisional road wins. Tennessee at Baltimore - Low scoring affair. I like Baltimore as a home dog here. They should have won last week in Pittsburgh. Indianapolis at Houston - Colts start out on the comeback trail against an opponent they've historically dominated. Late Tampa Bay at Denver - Tampa's good defence will keep the Broncos off the scoreboard enough that they can take advantage of Denver's atrocious defence. Buffalo at Arizona - Cardinals just can't beat good teams. True in the past, true this year. New England at San Francisco - Patriots will scratch out a win somehow. This one won't be pretty. Cincinnati at Dallas - Total mismatch. SNF Pittsburgh at Jacksonville - Both teams are banged up, but the Steelers are missing more important players. No idea how they plan to run the ball. MNF Minnesota at New Orleans - I still don't like the Vikings, especially on the road.

Vanderbilt beats Auburn. Amazing. What a fantastic story this is.

Wow, after jumping out to a 3-point lead, I now need Ohio State to come through to win this week.
-
Well, the season's officially underway...Martin Gerber gave up a soft goal.

$1.074/L here in Ottawa. Prices have been falling all week.

That's funny, because I stole them from someone in a way-too-early NBA preseason thread a couple of years ago. People just kept asking me to bring them back every year. 1. Who will win the MVP? Chris Paul, in a squeaker over Lebron and Kobe 2. Who will win the Rookie of the Year? Derrick Rose - I don't think Oden will stay healthy all season. And see my answer to 20. 3. Who will be the Coach of the Year? Jerry Sloan 4. Who will be named to the All-NBA First Team? Kobe, Lebron, CP3, KG, Yao 5. Who will be the NBA's Most Improved Player? Not a clue, so I'll just say Rip Hamilton. 6. What team had the best offseason? Obviously Philadelphia. 7. What team had the worst offseason? Toss up between the Clippers and Golden State. Probably the Warriors, since they had further to fall. The Nets were also notably bad. 8. Which team will be the most improved over last year? Philadelphia 9. Which team will be the biggest disappointment? Miami 10. What was the best offseason move? 76ers landing Elton Brand. 11. What was the worst offseason move? Knicks keeping Starbury. 12. Who will make the playoffs that didn't last year? Portland, Chicago 13. Who will not make the playoffs that did last year? Denver, Atlanta 14. Who are the best five players in the league, position aside (weak-sauce question, I know)? Kobe, Lebron, CP3, KG, Wade 15. Who will be the division winners? Celtics, Pistons, Magic, Hornets, Jazz, Lakers 16. Eastern Conference Final: Celtics over Cavaliers 17. Western Conference Final: Lakers over Hornets 18. Who will win the NBA Title, and who will they beat?: Lakers over Celtics 19. Who will be the #1 pick in next year's draft? Ask me in 6 months. 20. Make one bold prediction. Michael Beasley will be a flat-out bust.

Miami specifically is a very bad sports town. I'm always flip-flopping as to whether Miami or Atlanta is the worst sports town in America. The whole state of Florida seems to be in love with football more than anything else, though.

With training camps starting to open next week, this seems like a good time to discuss the upcoming season, which will open for the first time ever in Europe. As always, everyone is invited to preview the season from their perspective by answering these twenty questions: 1. Who will win the Hart Trophy? 2. Who will win the Vezina Trophy? 3. Who will win the Calder Trophy? 4. Who will win the Art Ross Trophy? 5. Who will win the Richard Trophy? 6. What team had the best offseason? 7. What team had the worst offseason? 8. Which team will be the most improved over last year? 9. Which team will be the biggest disappointment? 10. What was the best offseason move? 11. What was the worst offseason move? 12. Who will make the playoffs that didn't last year? 13. Who will not make the playoffs that did last year? 14. Who would make your All-NHL first team? 15. Who will be the division winners? 16. Eastern Conference Final: 17. Western Conference Final: 18. Stanley Cup Final (and winner): 19. Who will win the Conn Smythe Trophy? 20. Make one bold prediction.

Looks like the Thursday night curse is about to claim another top 10 team, as Pitt is hoping to run out the clock against USF up 26-21.

Those were a bad couple of erruhs.

I actually want the team to do well, but I can't with a name like Thunder, and knock-off Knicks unis. They aren't horrid, but they are doing the worst possible combination of everything to garner any sort of support outside of Oklahoma. It's like they _want_ to be the Clippers. You know, the name is now worse than the Miami Heat. I'll assume you meant to say no worse, and reply with: But the Heat name is horrible, too. And the Magic. And the Jazz. And any other name that's not a plural of something, and/or isn't even a thing.
-
How would you realign it? Or is it just the name that bugs you? Portland to the Pacific, Phoenix to the Southwest, Dallas to the old "Northwest" (now Central?) division. There's already a Central division, but they could bring back the old Midwest name. I like it.

I'm pretty sure (he can correct me if I'm wrong) that VX renounced the Lakers. I remember this because I called him a traitor at least once last season.
-
They were in the Northwest, and they'll remain there next season.
-
Whoever did the results, I beat PTAD in our matchup. I had Cleveland, San Diego, Buffalo and Baltimore right.
-
Milwaukee's already there. Gallardo was pulled after four innings. Hamels looks like he could go eight, at least.
-
There goes the no-hitter. Probably a good thing.
