Most hard luck player on your favorite team

Dave Stieb on the Blue Jays. Never really recognized as one of the elite pitchers of the 80s. He lost more no-hitters in the ninth inning than pretty much anyone I can think of, including two in back-to-back starts (both times, he retired the first two batters in the ninth). He was never an impact player on a World Series team, either...the Jays blew glorious chances at it both in 1985 (up 3-1 on the Royals in the first-ever 7-game ALCS before collapsing) and 1987 (up 3 1/2 games on Detroit going into the second last Sunday, before losing their last 7 games). He did get a ring in 1992, but he was a non-factor on that team due to injuries. -
Vote Passes recommending Libs resign

The crap that's being pulled right now with the Tories and Bloc voting to adjourn the House of Commons without doing any work is just absurd. The Opposition is behaving like a bunch of spoiled children, stamping their feet and screaming because they don't get what they want immediately when they demand it. If Harper was a TSM member, he'd have been sent to Whiny Bitches by now. -

Edited for accuracy and truth. Glad to see the level of intelligent debate has increased in the folder since Mike's banning. -

Indeed. Apparently mob connections, threats and a nation scandal do not truly show the depths to which they'll sink: The Liberals have to resort to delaying votes in the hopes that two ill MPs will be unable to vote for the Conservatives. Harper's your next Prime Minister. Suck it, Toronto. It's the Conservatives who have hit the new low for even suggesting it. And there's no way Harper can carry Ontario. -
Anyone who was ever WWF/E champion and weighed less then 240 lbs. overachieved in my eyes. Getting Vince to put the title on you when you're not a big guy is an incredible accomplishment.

Yeah, I remember him. He was with Baltimore when they were challenging Toronto for the AL East in the early 90s. I'd say he would qualify, given that he was the first overall pick in the draft the year he was taken.

The Prime Minister announced that the budget vote will be next Thursday. It seems like Martin is daring the blue alliance to bring down the government. I was joking with someone last week about how Canadian law automatically prevents the Conservatives from forming a government -- the law in question being the one that says that federal elections must be 36 days, which is about 33 days more than the Conservatives need to say something monumentally stupid and torpedo their chances. -
Drew Henson in...well, pick a sport. The Mets' young pitching triumvirate of the late 90s were hailed as the next great rotation. I think they were Jason Isringhausen, Bill Pulsipher and Paul Wilson. All of them fit.

An ESPN article made me think of this, but no one will even come close to beating Byron Nelson's 11-tournament winning streak.

How about Ron Powlus? I remember that guy being hyped big-time and he was just terrible. Didn't Beano Cook say Powlus would win three Heismans before he left ND? Kiss of death.

They didn't have a choice. If they stiffed the cabbie, they'd be breaking the law, which is against the rules. Remember what happened to Colin & Christie and the Bowling Moms a couple of races ago? The producers told all the teams assembled at the mat that the first team had arrived, but would not be checked in until they paid for their cab.

Ramon Martinez? He won 123 games for the Dodgers! Pedro Astacio had very unimpressive peripherals in the Dodgers' farm system, and I am surprised he turned out as good as he did. Offerman I could see. In fact, for most of the baseball players mentioned in this thread, I haven't seen high prospects for any of them, save Rafael Soriano. And Rsssh, I'm surprised you didn't mention Ryan Anderson. With a few exceptions, this whole thread seems to have degenerated into taking a player who was never projected to be anything more than just good, and saying, "See, I thought he should've been a Hall of Famer." I mean, Brad Isbister? C'mon.

Congrats to U&J. What a fucking twit Patrick is...did you see him praying for U&J at the finish line? I'm sure he's angry because Romber barely know who he is, even though he hates them so much.

Don't you have to have played for more than 3 years (unless you flamed out of the league) before being considered a total bust?

Who?

Two more words: Alexandre Daigle.

Correct. It's Rule 3.05(b).

What's the picture? It got red X'ed.

Season finale tonight. Who wins? I'm going with Uchenna and Joyce. Romber haven't made any serious racing mistakes (I'm not counting Rob opening his big mouth two legs ago) and are due, much like Kris and Jon last season. Ron and Kelly...I'm convinced Kelly is going to spontaneously self-destruct somewhere along the way.

WTF was Calgary's GM thinking when he traded Doug Gilmour, Jamie Macoun and 3 others for Gary Leeman and a bag of used pucks in 1992?
