That is why the BMI is bullshit. I am 5'6 and about 165 and noone in there right mind would call me slightly overweight. But according to the BMI, I need to lose about 20lbs. Bullshit. BMI isn't complete bullshit, but it's fairly useless without measuring things like % body fat, body composition, VO2 max, and so on.

Because, at a certain point, medicine won't be able to save them. If they die before, say, age 62 --- the government would have all of their Social Security taxes paid and wouldn't have to pay out one red dime. The longer one lives, the more expensive one's survival becomes. That is, if one supports a purely financial view on this sort of thing. -=Mike Exactly right. It's why the government will never outlaw smoking -- the double whammy of lost tax revenue and people living longer and overloading the health care and social security systems. Smoking keeps things manageable.

I'll be interested to see what happens if the Nationals are still in contention by the trade deadline. The fans in Washington aren't going to put up with the same shit that went down in Montreal, and the other owners can't sabotage the team for whatever ownership group comes out of the woodwork. The NL East owners may be forced into a position where they have to fund their biggest rival's stretch drive acquisitions. Not that I think this team has a prayer of contending, but I'd love to see that scenario play out after getting ass-raped the last 3 years.

At least we can tell they're true Yankees, then.

What was the point of the last segment...

They were abolished due to bandwidth issues relating to a million people posting "OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!" all at the same time. -

The latest twist in the Schiavo case.......
CanadianChris replied to NoCalMike's topic in Current Events
I'm amazed it was that low. They did everything but tie a bit in the respondent's mouths and drag them to the "correct" answer. I hate pollsters. One of the scummiest professions going. -
Casinos don't like anyone holding an advantage over them. However, blackjack is easily their most popular table game, so they don't want to tinker with it, for fear of losing all the suckers who play badly and enjoy doing it. So, they eject anyone who they suspect is counting cards, and make everyone else feel as welcome as possible. There are a number of casinos, though, who don't care if you're counting or not, as long as you're not being obvious about it.

Favorite Old Man Flair Moment . . .

Flair getting eliminated from musical chairs was pretty funny. -
I think that accomplished both.

If you have to have a hip replaced, you should be drawing social security, not no-selling for young talent in a wrestling ring.

It's a method of figuring out when you (the player) has the advantage in a shoe of blackjack. At the start of a shoe, the house has an advantage of 0.5% - 1%. As the cards come out, the advantage will fluctuate based on what cards are remaining in the deck: - If there are more small cards remaining than there are tens, the advantage the casino has over the player will increase, since the player will get fewer blackjacks (which pay 3:2, compared to losing 1:1 if the house gets blackjack) and the house will bust on bad hands less often. - Conversely, if there are more tens and aces remaining to be dealt than small cards, the advantage will shift toward the player. The player will actually have an advantage over the casino if there are significantly more tens and aces than small cards left. Card counting is a way of keeping track of the ratio of small cards to large cards in the deck. The simplest method is the hi/lo count - tens, face cards and aces count as +1, 2-6 count as -1. 7-9 are neutral cards and count as 0. As each card comes out of the shoe, you add it to your running count. You then divide your running count by how many decks (approximately) are remaining in the shoe, to get what is called a true count. When the true count is +2 or higher, the shoe is in your favour, and you increase your bet. There are also strategy changes that need to be made depending on the count (e.g. not hitting 12 against a 2 when the count is high positive, hitting 13 against a 2 when the count is high negative). The counting part is not that hard. The hard part is being able to remember the count and the adjustments, and be able to hide the fact that you're doing it.

Any business can throw you out whenever it chooses, for whatever reason (subject to civil rights, of course). It's why trespass laws exist.

Yeah, and their track record at drafting offense is stellar.

Broncos: 1 Sun Sep 11 at Miami 1:00 PM 2 Sun Sep 18 San Diego 4:15 PM 3 Mon Sep 26 Kansas City 9:00 PM 4 Sun Oct 2 at Jacksonville 1:00 PM 5 Sun Oct 9 Washington 4:15 PM 6 Sun Oct 16 New England 4:15 PM 7 Sun Oct 23 at NY Giants 4:15 PM 8 Sun Oct 30 Philadelphia 4:15 PM 9 BYE WEEK 10 Sun Nov 13 at Oakland 4:05 PM 11 Sun Nov 20 NY Jets 4:15 PM 12 Thu Nov 24 at Dallas 4:15 PM 13 Sun Dec 4 at Kansas City 4:15 PM 14 Sun Dec 11 Baltimore 4:15 PM 15 Sat Dec 17 at Buffalo 8:30 PM 16 Sat Dec 24 Oakland 4:15 PM 17 Sat Dec 31 at San Diego This has 10-6 and another first-round playoff exit written all over it. The good part is that after the bye week, the schedule gets considerably softer. Their only really tough opponents figure to be the Chargers. They'll probably only get to 4-4 before the bye week, with likely losses coming against the Chargers, Eagles, Patriots and Jaguars, even though three of those four games are at home.

Odd random statistic: 11 of the 14 AL teams have exactly 3 wins.

I'd go with Hurdle or McClendon. It doesn't matter much with their teams, though -- they're going to suck no matter what.
-
Well, now we know why they're making all the roster cuts...it's Diva Search time again. If enough people bitch about this, will they abort it?
-
True, but there are probably thousands of people out there who can count cards. If they were allowed to gamble on blackjack, the casinos would go bankrupt in a hurry. Maybe, but for every person who can count cards well, there are a hundred who think they can, but suck at it and give the casino more money. That, and the fact that even the best counter enjoys an advantage of around one percent, with HUGE variance. You'd need a bankroll of around $100,000 to be able to beat a $25 table without worrying too much about going bust.

MSG next week, and it's HHH vs. JR? Creative is severely fucked in the head.
-
Hey, I'd watch it. Could be worse...Hogan vs. Batista anyone? Hogan vs Masters. The crowd would at least probably not chant "Boring" at the guy.
-
Kirk Saarloos is currently looking to make up the deficit all by himself.

Blue Jays: Just one thing? I can't decide, so I'm going with the triple threat of Ted Lilly looking back on form against possibly the league's best offense, Eric Hinske giving us what we expected after his big rookie year, and a lack of the reduction in power that was expected when Delgado left.

Wow, that was on the first page, too. OK, delete this.
