Divisional Playoffs Prediction Thread

I can give you three reasons why the Vikings can win this game: 1) The Eagles starters are rusty, having not played in a month. 2) Relating to 1), losing TO hurts even more because the offense hasn't had a chance to sort out who will be the go-to guy and build confidence they can win without him. 3) If Moss is healthy, he could have a field day against the Eagles secondary. The key for Philadelphia is to get out to a quick start. Minnesota can put up points in a hurry, and if Philly gets into a big hole they could get even tighter as the crowd gets on them. I think Philly is the play here, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Minnesota win this game. And who is this "our" you speak of? -
The people in casting need to be strung up by their thumbs. I've never seen so many thoroughly unlikable people in one Race. I'll give a pass to whoever cast Kris, though.

That's about on par with the big one we had in 98. Although in the rural areas, that one turned out to be a lot worse, because there was a BRUTAL cold snap that followed immediately after, and they couldn't get the crews out fast enough to get the power back on. A lot of people were without power in -30 temperatures, just trying to survive.

Whoever had the stronger schedule. If they're the same, whoever ranks higher in points scored and allowed. -
Why can't the Baseball HoF adopt this philosophy a bit more? Then we'd have Jim Rice in the Hall, and not Don Sutton. [/hijack]

MLB: Yankees (for George) Marlins (for rat-bastard Loria) Orioles (just because) Tigers (for '87) NFL: Cowboys Packers Raiders Dolphins Mike Martz NBA: There's no one I can really get a good hate on for in the NBA. NHL: Red Wings Canadiens Devils Flyers I also have a very schizophrenic relationship with the Leafs that will likely sort itself out once they get rid of Pat Quinn. TSM Mods: Ditto Failed Mascot

That's scary that someone could go insane over the Nets.

The committee must elect at least three, but not more than six.

I got them here.

Young and Marino are automatic. Irvin is interesting, in that his off-field activities may hurt him, but I imagine he'll get in as well. Thomas should be in. I'm surprised that Dent and Monk have been on the ballot as long as they have. I would have thought at least Monk would get in in his first or second year of eligibility.

Where did you get those stats from? ESPN.com has them. NBA.com would too, I'd imagine.

Sorry, I had to laugh at this. McGrady is third in the league in FG attempted (behind other noted ballhogs Allen Iverson and Kobe Bryant), and his coach wants him to shoot MORE?? Good God. I'll agree he's a fantastic athlete, but he's not someone I'd ever build a franchise around. I mean, the guy threatened to quit last season because he didn't like playing against zone defenses. Why would I want someone with that kind of attitude on my team? Kobe's 11th in the league in assists at 6.7 a game, and Iverson's 6th in the league with 7.2 points a game. For all the shots they take, they spread the ball around a lot as well, you have to also consider the talent level around them and have to think in who you have confidence in to score. That's more a function of the fact that both play over 40 minutes a game. A player who's on the floor for most of the game will get more assists than someone who plays 25-35 minutes. If you look at assists per 48 minutes, both go way down on the list (Iverson 23rd, Bryant 32nd).

That statement is quite amusing. Really, it is. More and more, I think fans who buy into the idea that just because a player is flashy, and thus lack fundamentals and "team basketball", need to be slapped repeatedly with a rolled up newspaper. That's quite a blanket statement, Al. I didn't say that flashy players weren't team-oriented; I said that this one in particular was. He's a me-first, stats-oriented guy, and has been since he came into the league. There's a reason why Toronto wasn't too broken up about not resigning him, and why Orlando was eager to get rid of him after signing him to that huge deal.

Not showing that when they seemed to have the Pacers brawl on an endless loop for days revealed just how boundless their hypocrisy is.

Their chances look bleak, but no one knows what the future might bring. I have the feeling the Yankee dynasty will crumble within a few years. Remember the Blue Jays fared well in the AL East for a number of years. That was when the Blue Jays had good owners and baseball people, and George Steinbrenner didn't wake up every morning and wonder, "Who can I spend $10 million on today?" Gord Ash becoming GM and the explosion of big-market cable revenues were the worst things that ever happened to the franchise.

Denver Broncos - I was a HUGE Elway fan as a kid. Minnesota Vikings - My dad was a fan, and got me to like them too. Damn you, Dad. Toronto Blue Jays - I grew up watching them. We lived about two hours down the road. L.A. Lakers - LOVED Magic Johnson as a kid. Ottawa Senators - Moved to Ottawa in 1996 (the Sens' first year in the playoffs). I was a Leafs fan up to that point, but the club had pissed me off so much in the previous two years that I cheered for the hometown team as well. Then Pat Quinn came in as coach and it was sayonara, Buds. Syracuse - Closest college to home (Kingston, Ontario) as a kid.

Because ESPN has a hard-on for T-Mac, despite his absolute lack of knowledge of team basketball.

Oh, goody. Just what they needed. Man, this team is going to suck this season. I've got a more substantial write-up of the Blue Jays in the works. For now I'll say I really think this team will finish above the .500 mark. I'll be interested to see it. Right now, they don't have a whole lot more than the Ewing Theory going for them, from what I've seen.

This tells me very little. First, the Denver regular season game was completely meaningless, and they played their second- and third-stringers, so you can't include that game. (The fact that they blew them out two weeks later should indicate how meaningless it was). Second, Indianapolis was in the game against the Pats until the very end. You can even make the argument that the Pats were lucky to have won that game, as Manning had an excellent game, but was done in by two Edgerrin James fumbles. But they still finished 4-2 against these teams (again, the Denver game was meaningless) and were a couple of bounces from being 5-1. The games you showed hardly indicated poor play. They dominated two of their three opponents when it counted, and almost upset the defending champs on their own field. The fact that Indy was up 35-3 wouldn't have anything to do with the defense softening a bit in the second half, would it? Denver's 24 amounted to nothing more than garbage-time points. Plus, the fact that the Colts offense is so efficient means the defense is on the field more, and will tend to allow more points. It was the same situation in Buffalo with the K-Gun offense, and they made it to four Super Bowls. -

Meltzer said in his NYR recap that he thought it was obvious that the bookers "clearly didn't trust Maven doing a match with Benjamin after their weak house show matches." Which begs the obvious question, "Well, why did they put him in that position to start with?" I actually like that they didn't want to put Benjamin in a PPV match they knew was going to suck (which shows how highly they think of his potential), but couldn't they have come up with anything better than that?

Amazing that they went 10-6.

YES!!!!!!! ANOTHER pick...Favre is looking really bad here.

Moss needs to shut up and stop taunting the fans by pointing at the scoreboard. There's still 54 minutes left to play.
