I just got a hole-in-one on the eighth-ranked course in Canada (The Links at Crowbush Cove). Broke 100 because of that.

Forbes Magazine Says NHL Owners Overstated Losses
CanadianChris replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in Sports
Right, and the players acknoladge that and are willing to give rollback up to 150 Mill for next year. Why is everyone defending the Owners not readng that EVERY GOD DAMN TIME I SAY IT You seem not to be able to read what anyone else says...please extend everyone else the same courtesy. Besides, as has been pointed out more than once (now who's not reading?), that's a stopgap solution that offers no substantive help. Over the course of a five-year contract (which is what the union would be going for -- a short-term contract does them no good), salaries would be back at exactly where they are now, if not higher. The rollback doesn't mean shit. How do you know this? Do you have indisputable proof? If so, present it here. -
Forbes Magazine Says NHL Owners Overstated Losses

So while criticising those greedy players, I am supposed to feel sympathetic to owners who own entire arenas and multiple franchises? Poor babies. You missed the point entirely. Why should I believe the Forbes report when they do stuff like this? -

Forbes Magazine Says NHL Owners Overstated Losses

Certainly. But Forbes magazine is certainly more reliable than an "independant" study bought and paid for by the people who have the most to gain from its inevitable conclusion. And they did turn out to be right on the MLB article a couple seasons ago. Well, now having read the Levitt report AND the Forbes report, I'm much less inclined to believe what Forbes has to say. How does Forbes get away with reporting all income from a stadium that the owner of a hockey team also happens to own as hockey revenue? THAT'S how the Kings ended up with an $11-million profit instead of a $7-million loss -- they just happened to share space with the three-time NBA champion Lakers, and the same guy who owns the Kings owns part of the Lakers and the Staples Center. Same with Bill Wirtz and the United Center. Ridiculous. Further, how is a league-commisioned report worthless solely based on the fact that it was commissioned by the league? Levitt does have his own reputation to think of, as does everyone else who had a hand in preparing the report. The fact that Goodenow had the opportunity to go over it with Levitt and refused says all I need to know about that situation. -
Please, that's incredibly naive. Just by opening his mouth he's saying there's a bias -- being diplomatic about it doesn't change what he's saying. If he didn't want to say there's a bias, he wouldn't have said anything at all. Because they're #1. Unless they lose, they're going to stay #1, whether Tuberville or Stoops or anyone else likes it or not.

In the "WTF?" column, this from coach Bob Stoops, on ESPN analysts pushing Auburn as #2 over OU because ESPN has a contract with the SEC: "I'm saying I'm aware of what [ESPN's] contracts are with. Whether people are directed in certain ways, I'm not going to say that. I think all the people ought to be aware who their contracts are with and what some of their agendas may be." Apparently, "spreading asinine conspiracy theories" ranks somewhere above "preparing for the Baylor game" on the priority list.

Probably because AoO has picked more right than anyone else.

No wonder. The conference got ripped apart by the ACC. Big East needs to add some serious teams starting next season. I still firmly believe Penn State, Navy, and Notre Dame should enter the Big East starting next season. I can't see why Penn State would mind being in a conference with Navy, Rutgers, and UCONN instead of the monster they are in now. Why would the Big East want those teams? They're already getting Louisville next season. They're gearing up to be the premier basketball conference in the country...football is going to be second-class anyway. Penn State currently has nothing to offer in either sport; neither does Navy. Notre Dame would never join a conference for football and give up everything they currently enjoy (TV deal, BCS affiliation) as an independent. They're already a Big East member in all other sports.

1 (1) USC 2 (2) Oklahoma 3 (3) Auburn 4 (4) Cal 5 (6) Texas 6 (7) Utah 7 (9) Michigan 8 (12) Florida State 9 (10) Boise State 10 (14) Louisville No real surprises this week. OU is ranked 1st in 5 of 6 computers (2nd in the other), USC 2nd in 5 of 6 (1st in the other), and Auburn 3rd in 5 of 6 (4th in the other). I really can't see how Auburn is going to overcome this deficit, which is a shame, because they really are playing like the best team in the country right now. On a side note, whoever thought we'd see a BCS with Utah, Boise State and Louisville all in the top 10?

Here's what happened last year: http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?showtopic=47502 I'm assuming the same format for this year.
-
Easy -- Cal would likely jump to #2 in the human polls, while Auburn and OU would drop to around 5 or 6. That'd give them plenty of an edge.

Jews bite the dust.

This has to be the DUMBEST bunch of teams I've ever seen.
-
Fuuuuuuuuuck.
-
I think they did the same thing last season too though... After the pit stop will just be the other teams doing their next leg most likely...and they probaly won't get to the second pit stop this show.. Last season was only an hour and a half, though.
-
Pit stop already? There's still 45 minutes left!

I want Team Yellow gone SO BAD. The guy makes me yearn for the kinder, gentler nature of Colin.
-
No arguments here. He was by far the best player in the AL down the stretch.
-
They would've been contenders this year, had they gone to South Bend and done what was expected of them.
-
So what will the Dudes with Attitudes do next week? I swear, this thing is going to end up with Orton vs. HHH for the title, with Evolution barred from ringside, Benoit, Jericho and Maven surrounding the ring, and Snitsky and Edge chained to Rosey.

This is overbooked even by WWE standards.
-
Aw shit.

He should be. He used to be a Horseman.

C'mon, Vince would never do that. Oh yeah, you're right! Seriously though, I think they are going to take it to a level that will be one of the worst things they've ever done. But maybe it's just me. Worse than Slaughter? Worse than the Un-Americans? I shudder to think.
