Hey, there was a bright spot to this season after all, then.

You really need to work on that persecution complex. Either that or exhibit some ability to see the opposing point of view. (Sorry Bored.)

Not necessarily. They're not so far ahead of Miami that the Hurricanes can't reverse it yet again. The computers will be the wild card here. Eh it's very doubtful b/c of the fact that OU will be playing two very good ranked teams on the road and if they win those games impressively then they will gain more first place votes from the human voters and I believe the gain in first place votes is what allowed them to jump ahead this week. If OU and USC both keep winning then nothing is going to stop them from facing one another. And it'll be the correct game for the national title. And it's gotta be the first time in a long time that #1 and #2 in the preseason hook up in the title game. There was virtually no movement in the human polls this week. The huge leap by OU in the computers is what moved them up. There's going to be hardly any movement in the human polls until someone loses, because the voters generally don't move a team midseason unless they lose or someone ahead of them loses. Besides, gaining a point or two out of 1500 (in the human poll) doesn't make any difference at all, whereas gaining a point or two out of 100 (in the computer poll)makes a relatively huge difference. Besides, Miami has a couple of games against ranked teams coming up themselves. It's going to be really close going to the wire. Finally, as long as there are more than two undefeated teams, who's to say what the "right" national title game would be?

The Countdown to Beltran with Yankees Topic

At the heart of every argument, there's a kernel of truth. As for Brown, I'm not surprised. I didn't think he could handle the New York pressure cooker in the first place. -

Who would you put above them?

The Countdown to Beltran with Yankees Topic

Perez's ERA was actually lower on the road than at home. Keep trying, though; this is hilarious. -
Five unbeaten teams in the BCS. I, for one, can't wait to see how corporate puppet John Saunders would spin that kind of train wreck.

When you get to the World Series every year, you're going to win a lot of games, whether you hoist the trophy at the end or not.
-
When your team wins a lot of games, you're going to log a lot of innings as a closer.
-
Good God, that can't be right.
-
That's a weak argument. If you can beat them once, why can't you beat them again? Note that both teams you mentioned did exactly that (OU beat Colorado twice in 2002, not Kansas State, btw).

Confusion and denial?

They're 4th in the computer rankings, so although the highest and lowest comp. rankings are thrown out, they probably had a few 5's. Sagarin has them either 8th or 9th, which is actually up from last week. Doesn't really matter, becaause that result gets thrown out along with their first-place vote. EDIT - Actual rankings: Richard Billingsley - 1st (thrown out) Colley Matrix - 3rd Peter Wolfe - 3rd Anderson & Hester - 4th Kenneth Massey - 7th Jeff Sagarin - 9th (thrown out) This would mean either the smaller conferences would need to get larger (would likely never happen, although Penn State joining the Big "10" suggests that may not be the case) or the larger conferences would need to get smaller (would NEVER, EVER happen). You can't declare a conference winner based on record in a divided conference. As long as there are unequal-sized conferences, this will continue to be a major difference. My personal take -- if you say you're good enough to play for the national title, it shouldn't be a problem to win a conference title game if there's one to be played. If you can't win that game, you probably didn't deserve it in the first place. I don't have as much a problem, though, with OU getting in last year as with Nebraska getting in 3 years ago, when they weren't even INVITED to their conference title game.

On the contrary, I think the NCAA would try to find a way preventing them from getting to a BCS bowl in favor of a "money" school Any non-BCS school in the top 6 has to be in a BCS bowl. It's in the rules.
-
I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why they continue to play it at every Blue Jays home game.
-
Whatever. How Oklahoma improved its standing with the computer so dramatically after beating freaking KANSAS is beyond me. No team in front of OU on any of the computers lost. The good thing is that Utah is now in the top 6, making them automatically BCS-eligible if they can hold onto it. Edited.

If they went by the old system (alternating between NL and AL), Boston would have home field anyway. Baseball has never gone by record, at least not until the wild card was introduced.
-
Lowe is pitching Game 4. St. Louis will like go the way they did in the NLCS (Williams, Morris, Suppan, Marquis). Morris won't start Saturday on 3 days' rest, and Suppan can't go any earlier than Tuesday.

Being a Lakers fan (although that will be severely tested this season)...have to say the Sox.
