OK, seeing Hulk Hogan around the Cup was just weird. Eh...congrats to Tampa.

    Brain Teaser

Took me two minutes. Kinda obvious when you think about it; I had a general idea right away and just refined it a bit.

    Trivia tidbits from PWS

Wasn't he a Velocity jobber last year? I can't see why they'd all of a sudden want him now.
  4. Wonderful movie, very true to the book without being a carbon copy. I kind of liked how they shuffled around who was where when, why and how in the sequence at the Shrieking Shack. It was nice having to follow the movie and not blindly follow the book from memory (which I could do for parts, since it's my favourite of the five and I've read it a couple dozen times). I'm kind of wondering about Goblet of Fire myself, since the beginning section (at the World Cup of Quidditch) is pretty crucial to set up the rest of the novel, plus, of course, the ending where Voldemort is reborn was quite long. It's going to be hard to cram everything they'll need into three hours or less.

Awesome hockey in the second half of OT. Just AWESOME. Calgary is skating circles around the Lightning.
  6. The whole point of the Time-Turner is that they can't use it to alter the past in any way whatsoever. They made that very clear in the book, just before Harry and Hermione went back to rescue Buckbeak.

Whats your towns most popular sport?

Hockey, no question. It's scary how much air time on sports radio and column inches in the two dailies are devoted to the Senators. The 67s and Gatineau Olympiques (major junior teams) get decent coverage as well. Football would be second, with the Renegades just recently joining the CFL, while baseball is a distant third, even though there's a decent AAA team here. Actually, when it's in season, curling gets more coverage around here, so that'd be third.

No kidding...on the morning show on our sports radio station, they've nicknamed him "The Condor," because they determined that his voice most closely represents the screech of a condor when he announces a Lightning goal. Am I the only one who really hates the way he calls opponents' goals, though? It's like they're an afterthought..."Oh, Saprykin scores." I can understand being let down when someone scores on your team, but the extremes he takes it to are unacceptable.

    Election Day

That wouldn't surprise me at all, especially considering the NDP put Monia Mazigh (the wife of Maher Arar, who was deported to Syria by the FBI/RCMP for allegedly being a terrorist and tortured while there) to contest him in Ottawa South. There's a large Middle-Eastern population in that riding, and she's going to get a lot of support, not even considering the backlash of having McGuinty as your last name.

Eh...not really a fair comparison, since Bettman has a whole league full of blunders we can crucify him for, whereas we only see Goodenow around CBA time. As far as rhetoric for this particular CBA goes, I'd say Goodenow = Bettman.

TV shows that lost their "place in history"

The Cosby Show. A pretty good show, and DOMINATED the ratings for four years straight, but then they introduced that annoying little kid in the fifth or sixth season and it went straight into the crapper. The episode where Cliff, Theo and Elvin "give birth" has to rank as one of the worst half-hours in television history.

    The OAO NBA Playoffs/Finals Thread

If The Lakers are paying back everyone that's beaten them in the Finals then they have a lot of paying back to do. I swear nobody has lost more finals. Maybe, but besides Boston, nobody has won more finals either (14-12 in 26 appearances, a record). Yep and I doubt they'll catch Boston. They're about due for a slump....a long one that Boston may get good during. What, are you planning on putting a hit on Danny Ainge or something? BTW, Lakers in 6.

Now there's a sad indictment of today's society. That's a ripoff of a Branch Rickey (Society: "Who?") quote: "Luck is the residue of design." Lakers in six, if only because the Lakers played a horrible, horrible game on the road, the T-Wolves played possibly their best game of the series at home, and they still only won by two.

    Jacques Martin hired

Well, to be fair, Keenan has never been exclusively a general manager. On the plus side, he and Jacques are good friends, so I imagine Jacques will have a lot of input into the personnel decisions, which will be a good thing. I envy you...you're going to have a really good team down there to watch in a year or two. If anyone's watching hockey that is. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go slit my wrists at the latest rumors that keith Acton will be the next Sens head coach.

What a crappy opening to the HNIC broadcast. If EVER there was a year to air "The Chance May Never Come Again," this is definitely it.
