The 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Yeah, but it's always something with the Senators. They always seem to shrink from the spotlight in the biggest games. Look at this year -- three gigantic games in the last two weeks, one at the end of the season to win the division, and Games 5 and 7 of the playoffs. And in each and evry one of those games, they come out and lay a huge fucking egg. There need to be some major changes in Ottawa, and pronto.

Konerko HR, 8-6 now. Is this Mattingly's first year with the big club as a coach? Maybe that's why the Yankees suck right now.

I didn't know it was possible to have that little taste in movies. Although he did like Pulp Fiction, so he's not totally hopeless.

Um, the Leafs were up 3-0 before the first period was over...what could possibly have made you nervous?

*swings barbed-wire baseball bat at Max Power, misses and hits bob barron* Hey, some things never change. Nice Lalame pic, BTW...sums up my feelings exactly.

That's my policy...cheer for the Sens until they get eliminated, then move onto the Leafs. I was a Leafs fan practically since birth, until I moved to Ottawa.

Yankees aren't my team...I can't remember the last time the Yanks played two guys I've never even heard of, though. How would I know about two guys in their minor-league system?

Who the hell is Alex Graman, and why is he still in after giving up all these runs? EDIT: Never mind, he's been pulled...hey, who the hell is Scott Proctor? When did the Yankees get all these pitchers I've never heard of?

Agreed. Nine years in one place is just too long. Quenneville would be a beautiful hire. Nope. They can get rid of Lalime, but they have a super goalie in the minors, name of Ray Emery. They should bring him up and play him for the entire season, like Colorado did with Aebischer. Nope. Alfredsson is a great leader in the dressing room, and a great player on the ice. Maybe he didn't have a great series, but neither did anyone else (except Chara). Redden, perhaps, but mentioning Chara is just stupid. He was their best player in this series. They need to get rid of Bonk, he's just a paycheque guy. None of the trade deadline acquisitions really needs to stay around. What they really need is a quality power forward.

I don't think Tosca is in any jeopardy at the moment. Management likes him enough that he should be able to survive any rough patches. And Toronto HAS played Boston. They lost 2 out of 3 to the Sox on Easter weekend.

Well, so much for that. The Grizzlies just look totally overmatched. The Spurs have that look of, "OK, the games count now, NOW watch what we can do." This series will be over in 4 straight.

    Clarett ruled ineligible

Very doubtful, but would the NCAA make an exception for Williams? He obviously only got an agent because he thought he was eligible under the "new" rules.

it's just a NBA rookie of the year poll.

What the hell are you smoking? Anthony is 14th in the league in turnovers, at 3.0/game (which, for a forward, is pretty bad). Considering LeBron is a point guard, and handles the ball on every single possession, he should have more turnovers just based on time of possession, and Carmelo shouldn't really be close (which he is). Hell, Jason Kidd is 9th in turnovers, and he's generally considered the best PG in the league. Haha, and what the hell are you smoking? Lebron didn't outscore Melo. Yeah, funny how you ignore all the other accurate points I made. This, however was my fault, a mis-read on my half. He's not #5 in turnovers, but #5 FTA. Again, misread. Yeah, that was a mistype on my part (I was looking at stale stats). That extra one-tenth of a point really cinches RoY for Melo, though, doesn't it? Especially given that his primary job is to score, while Lebron has to distribute the ball as well. Besides, your whole "total rebounds" argument (not per-game average) kind of makes your whole post suspect. Here's how it sounds: "Yeah, Lebron had more assists, more blocks (as a guard vs. a forward), more steals, nearly as many rebounds (as a guard vs. a forward) and a nearly identical scoring average, but other than that, Carmelo totally outplayed him."
