Very interesting... Houston has offered a one-year contract to Roger Clemens. Now he just has to decide whether he wants to accept.

Damn, you beat me to it. *points finger menacingly*

Yeah.......... I believe a game can only not end on a defensive penalty. No that is why the NFL apologized because a game cannot end on off setting penalites and people are just bitching about this because this is what this topic is all about!!! Thanks. Right. Offsetting penalties, by definition, include a defensive penalty, so the game continues.

Game before the Gretzky high-stick. Watch the game footage for Gilmour's head-BUTT. It doesn't get mentioned because, well, Leafs fans don't like mentioning it. They'd rather cry about Gilmour getting clipped. Apparently, the sports media doesn't like mentioning it, either, because I could find no mention of the headbutt in either the Toronto Star or L.A. Times sports archives. Surely someone would've mentioned it, since it would've been a bit of a sticking point.

It was a complete fake. Although it did lead to this little gem...

At this point, I think the Cup winner will come out of the East. Four of the five strongest teams in the league right now are in the East (Flyers, Leafs, Senators, Devils, with Detroit being the fifth). Whoever comes out of the East is going to be playing some damn good hockey. Sadly, due to the ridiculous "division winners get the top 3 seeds" rule, one of those four teams will be eliminated in the first round, as one will be a four seed and another will be a five seed.

Not to rag on you or anything, but...how many more times is this going to be reported before it becomes old news?

How come I never hear of Democratic Presidents being viewed as being stupid, while it seems to be a trait of an awful lot of Republican Presidents? I didn't see any phony stories about Clinton having 1/2 the IQ of Bush Sr. widely circulated. -=Mike But that completely misses the point, as this snippet makes no mention of the mental acuity (or lack thereof) of the President himself. Have you taken a good look at society lately? There are a LOT of people making a LOT of stupid decisions out there.

It was on the New RO here. Not that I was home to watch it, thank God. Yeah, that's what I found out after the fact. I thought Sportsnet was the only channel carrying it, and when I saw it was blacked out there, AND not being carried on Centre Ice, I was pissed. Then I just turned on Dave and Gord on the radio, and I was calm.

Well, that's certainly the biggest bunch of BS I've seen all day.

Does anyone else remember this phantom headbutt? Because I certainly don't, and I've never found any mention of it it in any account of that series. Also, you've got your games mixed up. The Gretzky high-stick was in Game 6. I don't know what game this headbutt would have been in.

Wind chill in Ottawa today: -50ºC (-58ºF)

I'm almost positive that the Top 3 from this year(LSU, USC, OU) would trounce those teams. Point is, they're too afraid of the upset to even try.
-
Why is that? No one wants to play a mid-major team (read: strength of schedule drain) who can legitimately beat them. At least not in football...basketball is getting a little better about that sort of thing. If a team is going to schedule a non-conference game against a team from a weaker conference, they're going to make DAMN SURE it's a team they know they'll beat.
-
All the scheduling is done a year or two in advance. The conference schedule is a lot easier because every team is always playing the same opponents in the same rotation (unless teams switch conferences).
-
That is correct.
-
Except that the non-conf schedules are already set in stone, pretty much.

MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Senators/Leafs game is blacked out on EVERY CHANNEL in Ottawa. I can't get it on Sportsnet OR Centre Ice. Not that it's much of a contest...4-0 Senators 7 minutes in.
