1993, Maple Leafs vs. Kings, Campbell Conference final, Game 6: With the Leafs holding a 3-2 series lead, the two teams were battling in overtime of game 6 when Kings C Wayne Gretzky caught Leafs C Doug Gilmour in the face with a high stick, drawing blood. This should have been an automatic four-minute penalty to Gretzky, but referee Kerry Fraser, who forgot his white cane in the dressing room, made no call. Gretzky would score the game-winning goal not two minutes later, while he should have been serving the penalty, and scores a hat trick in game 7 to advance to the Stanley Cup final against Montreal, depriving Canadians of one last chance to see a Montreal-Toronto Cup final before the Leafs would move to the Eastern Conference. Fraser would admit ten years later that he blew the call. The was the only time I have ever cursed Wayne Gretzky.

I vote to revoke this thread's classic status.

For the 90s? No way. Glavine won two Cy Youngs and four other top-3 finishes, had four 20-win seasons, was a World Series MVP, and had an ERA in the 2s or low 3s for most of those years. He was consistently excellent for the entire decade. Brown's numbers with Texas and Baltimore went from mediocre to downright pitiful...and those numbers spanned more than half the decade! He didn't start to be good until he got to Florida in 1996.

If you're looking for... Cheaper hotels: Try Imperial Palace or the Flamingo. Nice and central, so you don't have to walk very far to anything. Boardwalk is also half-decent, but further down the Strip. Mid-range hotels: Treasure Island is very nice. So are New York New York, MGM Grand, and the Rio...Rio is off-strip, but you can walk over to the Gold Coast and grab a free shuttle to Barbary Coast. Money-is-no-object hotels: The Venetian and Bellagio, from what I've heard, are the nicest...but you're looking at upwards of $300 a night for any of those. Better just to visit.

Unfortunately, the writers seem to be blinded by the sick stats being put up by today's players. I wonder how many of these guys actually remember the 80s.

Larry Walker - Nope. Playing most of his career in Colorado is not going to help him with the voters. I don't think anyone from the Rockies will ever make the HoF. Albert Belle - I doubt it. The media hated this guy, and I think enough wouldn't vote for him that he wouldn't get in. Plus, I don't think he was good enough for long enough. Bernie Williams - Probably. A very good all-around player, and one of the top 2 or 3 center fielders of his era. Edgar Martinez - Maybe. With Paul Molitor in, I think voters will be a little more lenient on guys who were primarily DHs. And he's one of the best hitters to come along in the past 20 years. Barry Larkin - I think he should be. Might have been the best shortstop in the majors before the Big Three came along. The MVP will certainly help. Fred McGriff - Very borderline. He might be the sacrificial lamb when the writers decide that 500 HRs isn't an automatic ticket to the HoF in this age. Craig Biggio - I might put him in...he's played three very difficult positions and excelled. But I could certainly see him not getting in, because he was never really at the very, very top of the league. Curt Schilling - I hope so. He's certainly working his way up there. I think it'll depend on how he does while he's in Boston...he needs another good season or two, I believe. John Franco - If Lee Smith, Goose Gossage and Bruce Sutter can't get in, Franco's certainly not going to. Mike Mussina - Not right now. No Cy Youngs -- hardly ever even sniffed one, in fact -- and no really significant accomplishments during his career. Just a very good pitcher. Kevin Brown - Nope. Again, no Cy Youngs, only two top 3 finishes, and nothing about him that really stands out. Again, he wasn't good enough for long enough. Trevor Hoffman - See Franco.

Welcome to the wonderful world of sports talk radio. Where being correct and intelligent is not nearly as important and being loud and angry.

Yeah, I agree with El Dandy about the Race match. While I don't necessarily agree with going the full monty on it like SK did, it was **** pretty easy. Still...EPIC review. I cannot wait until this thing comes to Canada.

He played with the Dodgers last year. Don't know where he'll end up this season.
-
Lee Smith? I'm STILL waiting for Goose Gossage, who's now LONG overdue.

I think if Hogan came down to the ring to THAT, I would die of uncontrollable laughter.

Sad when the only thing keeping the TV on was sheer lack of will to get up and go to sleep.

OK...now I have officially seen everything on RAW.

I like the fact they're going with old-style heel and face announcing. I do NOT like the fact that JR and King are there.

Friends and supporters of Randy Orton? Neither of those words should be pluralized.
