People get way too discouraged by the lack of feedback. Around 3000 - 4500 people read my TNA reports every week (if you add in all of the other sites I write for). I get anywhere from 0-10 e-mails a week. That's it. Dames Eh, the email wasn't the problem. Hell, I turned it into a bit of a running gag. When I post threads that basically ask, "Hey, guys, could you look at this and tell me what you think?", and get zero replies, though, it kind of says something not very good.

Sheeeeeeeeeit. Well, this would sure be a nice spot for Sammy to break out of his slump.

Sure looks like he did, anyway. MLB really needs more players that look like kids in a World Vision infomercial.

Agree, but only because the West is loaded and cracking the top five will by VERY difficult. I don't think they're like any of those teams you mentioned, all of which came up through a very weak and upset-riddled East. Still, I have difficulty thinking they'll make even the conference final this year. They definitely are a contender. That one line is the best line in hockey (yes, even better than either big line in Colorado, because they've been together the longest), and not enough teams will be able to shut them down night in and night out for them to slip far in the standings. They play in a weak division, which will help them remain near the top. Vancouver should finish fourth, and if Hedberg can rise up and supplant Cloutier and the defense plays as well defensively as offensively, they will be a threat. Yep. The Detroit defence looks historic. Eh...who's going to beat them in the Pacific? Not Anaheim, probably not Los Angeles, and certainly not San Jose or Phoenix. If Guerin returns to his old self and Turco steps it up a notch, they'll be tough to beat. Definitely could...they also need Roman Cechmanek to prove that all he needed was a change of scenery. Without Gaborik, they won't even make the playoffs. I picked Detroit as well. Colorado is going to seriously regret not picking up Curtis Joseph in the waiver draft. They were going to pay an aging Patrick Roy more money than he makes anyway...why not pick him up? Detroit is never going to trade him to the Avalanche, no matter what Ken Holland says. Keeping a top-flight goalie away from your main rivals is definitely worth $8 mil.

The NFL said the refs made the correct call. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1632537

Get him out of there.

Teddy. My reasons: - first extensive application of the Sherman Act, and making government an arbiter between trusts and unions - building of the Panama Canal - introduction of first food safety legislation - introducing the notion of the United States as international arbiter/policeman through Roosevelt Corollary to Monroe Doctrine And of course, he won a Nobel Peace Prize after leaving office, but they seem to hand those things out to ex-Presidents like candy. -
I seem to remember a certain Oakland reliever from years past getting a little over-exuberant at times as well. I remember a playoff game in the '92 ALCS where Oakland had Toronto down and out, then the Jays got something going in the eighth, and they had to go to Eckersley to close the door. He did, with a strikeout of Ed Sprague, and he windmill-pumped his fist and shot this ridiculous glare into the Toronto dugout. Of course, he had to come out and pitch the ninth, where Robbie Alomar promptly lit his ass up with a game-tying two-run homer, and the Jays won in extras and closed out the series in 6. My point? Athletes are human, and will react emotionally in emotional situations. Is it always classy? No, but it's human, so best not to make too big a deal out of it.

Yeah, because they never would've taken, say, the Richmond Tea Party seriously.

The universe will implode. It's like matter meeting anti-matter in Star Trek. Oh, and fuck the Marlins (well, fuck their piece of shit owner, anyway).

I don't see how this is a bad thing. The greatest president of the 20th Century was an actor and former Governor of California. I would pick one of the Roosevelts, myself. -
Too conservative. I say six seconds to set the all-time record.
-
Man, if it does end up being a Cubs-Red Sox World Series, how bad are the fans of the losing team going to feel, knowing they couldn't even beat a cursed team?
-
To the first point, I didn't find anything in the article that said that the Countdown crew were "legit experts" on race. Whitlock was making a comparison, not an inference. And to the second point, how much research does it take to argue anything, let alone argue it on a nationally televised program? Quite a bit. You do no research, you get ripped to shreds, because your opponents will be much better-prepared to argue the opposing view. I would think you would know that pretty well.

He's not there to offer anything in the way of insight or analysis; that's what Jackson, Young and Irvin are there for. He's the host of the show. His job is to introduce segments, set up his colleagues so they can provide insight and analysis, and basically moderate, and he does a pretty fair job of that.

Well, I think I should probably change my predictions for the Southeast...Florida probably finishes second and makes the playoffs now.
-
It's going to be much harder for Heatley, I think, given that he killed one of his teammates and not some random woman.
-
To all the people who said they would read a Velocity recap...where were you when I actually had the time to write one? I asked for feedback a couple of times and got zilch.
-
Of course they are. How else do you explain letting the visiting team's fans overrun your stadium in a PLAYOFF game? Braves "fans" have become so desensitized to the team, that it's like they don't even care until the team makes the NLCS. When the Braves become bad (and it's coming soon), you'll be back to 80s-level attendance figures in Atlanta. It's like the situation in the late 80s-early 90s in Toronto...they only sold out the park every night because the team was winning and SkyDome was the "in" place to be. Once they started losing they got down to about 15,000-20,000 fans a night.

Well, so much for Chokeland. Now let's bring on the series I've been waiting for all year...
-
We need a HHH Count on RAW whil he's away. I'll wager his name gets mentioned at least a dozen times every show.
-
Yeah, that confused me too. I'm guessing he either had access to a replay or talked with someone on the umpiring crew before talking to Selig. I thought it was a bad call too, until they went through the replay sequence.

That was the biggest mistake. You NEVER stop unless the official has signalled the play is dead. Tejada was expecting the official to bail him out, and he paid for it. And, for what it's worth, I agreed with the explanation that the announcers were speculating on (Mueller was allowed to be there because he was expecting a throw from Garciaparra). But what about the explanation that Tejada would have been out? Obviously you couldn't have made that assumption considering the throw wasn't anywhere near the plate. I don't think that's what the umpires decided. Tejada could advance from third at his own risk (at least that's what's being reported on the recap shows). It's one of those things where if you aren't sure, either don't run at all or run it out hard.

Very true...but how this loss went down might have just killed them. This is like Game 3 of '01 and they were dead the next two games. If they can't beat John Burkett tomorrow, with Tim Hudson on the mound, they don't deserve to win this series in the first place. I fully expect them to take it tomorrow (but I won't be cheering for them).
