Short lived TV shows no one seems to remember
CanadianChris replied to King Kamala's topic in Television & Film
It's the Game Show Remake phenomenon. All aspects of the new show shall be at least five times as lame as the old show. (See: Whammy, Pyramid, Card Sharks, Family Feud) -
Most significant match of the decade

That is, without doubt, the funniest thing I have ever read. I dunno, you could argue it. You'd be dead wrong, but you could argue it. -

I know all five of those...and the first one is actually Caesar's Challenge. Obscure game shows? How about Gambit, Headline Chasers, Wordplay, The Challengers, It's Your Move (not the Jason Bateman crapfest) and Definition? The USA Network was a game show mecca back in the early 90s. I saw the new Pyramid, and I can't believe how bad they are! Compared to the 80s one, they're all on sedatives. (Though the possibility of everyone on the 80s Pyramid being on cocaine is not to be ruled out.) I remember Caesar's Challenge. I think it involved Bryant Gumbel, a centaur, and a ping-pong ball tumbler. Yeah, weekdays from 10:00 AM to like 4:00 PM on both USA Network and Family Channel. Game show heaven. That was my childhood right there. Yeah mine too. I should obtain a picture of Alf on Hollywood Squares. Eagan do you remember Split Second? That was a cool show. Split Second was one of my all-time favourites. I loved the idea of three-part questions, and Monty Hall was great as the host. -

Randy Savage © vs. Ultimate Warrior, WWF title, Summerslam 92. Not as amazing as their classic at WM7, but still a very good match enhanced by the "Whose corner will Mr. Perfect be in?" storyline. Steve Austin vs. Chris Benoit, RAW, October 2000. This was the night after Austin dropped HHH in the car from 50 feet. An excellent TV match showcasing Austin's wrestling ability (which everyone forgot he had at that point). Mr. Perfect © vs. Bret Hart, IC title, Summerslam 91. Fantastic match that launched Bret's singles career once and for all. Vader © vs. Ric Flair, WCW title vs. career, Starrcade 93. Great match. Flair took an absolute shitkicking in this one. The pop when Flair won the title was one of the loudest I'd ever heard. Wild Pegasus vs. Black Tiger, 1994. Anyone who thinks Eddy and Benoit are great now NEEDS to see this match...brilliant stuff.

That's debatable. All In The Family, M*A*S*H and Cheers would all be right up there for me. Of course, the greatest comedy to ever air was Police Squad!. I'll agree with this one, though.

Well, you can't really be faulted for missing SS92...the Bret/Shawn title match and an interesting Savage/Perfect vs. Flair/Razor tag match were the only things worth watching on the entire card.
-
Definitely Survivor Series 92. It had better flow, better pacing and a better finish. Plus it was before the feud began, so Shawn didn't have any problems jobbing to Bret. Just because they went an hour-plus in the Iron Man match doesn't make it better.

That scenario with those teams would look like this under the existing rules: Giants/Phillies Braves/Cardinals Yankees/Royals Mariners/Red Sox

The post-match angle after the WrestleWar match really delivers the coup de grace. The 2/3 falls match WAS the better match on its own, but seeing Funk piledrive Flair on the table after the WrestleWar match is permamently linked with the match for me...that's why I think it's the better match.

Then there's the one that really started everything, although none of us could have known it at the time... Steve Austin vs. Jake Roberts, tournament final, King of the Ring 96. The birth of Austin 3:16. -
Wow, this is one shitty, shitty card. No one's making money with this...I'll go with $520 on Angle and that's it.
-
Mine would go something like this... Seattle \ Seattle \ Kansas City / \ Seattle --- New York \ / | Oakland / | Oakland / | +--- Montreal Atlanta \ | Chicago \ | Chicago / \ | Montreal --- San Francisco \ / Montreal / Montreal / Eh, so it didn't come off like I wanted...still legible.

There's never been a time I wouldn't pass. Never seen the need to try. -
Oh, well...congrats to Reichen and Chip. How funny was it that the Goats got the Guido treatment in Hawaii after finishing first the last two legs?
-
No, I mean like real irony.

Finale is tonight. If this turns out to be the last episode ever for this show, watch for headlines about Les Moonves (president of CBS) being gruesomely dismembered. I already don't watch ABC anymore because they cancelled Sports Night and The Job, and I like TAR even more. I, too am cheering for Kelly and Jon, mostly because I don't want Flo to be remembered as the only woman to ever win TAR.

Yes...it was a three-story brownstone somewhere in New York. There was a older black couple on one floor, and a pair of young newlyweds on another floor. I remember it from the review in TV Guide in that year's Fall Preview issue. What the hell was the name of it, though? -
EVERYTHING is a matter of opinion around here.
