And when it's not Jamie Campbell, it's Rod Black, who is worse.

I see what you did there.

Ken Hughson and Buck Martinez in the glory years, followed immediately by Shulman and Martinez. Damn. What the hell happened? Aside from Pat Tabler, I don't think we have a single good TV announcer now.

    You missed someone, thanks.

At least we don't have to listen to Kypreos for three hours at a time. Well, except on trade deadline day, but if you're watching Sportsnet instead of TSN there, I really can't help you.

Fuck, we're going to end up with Washington now. That's not good.

    NHL Thread

Almost. All Washington needs is a single point, so they can lose in overtime and still get in. The amazing thing is -- this was Florida's first win in Raleigh in sixteen games (0-14-1).

They're exceeding my expectations for this year, that's for sure. Just a fantastic run through a couple of really tough lineups. I came in expecting to hate the retro unis, but they grew on me. They look better on the players than I expected they would. It's probably that the jerseys are a lot looser than the originals were.

Looks like the Sens will sneak in the back door. Carolina has lost to Florida, leaving them needing a Washington loss in regulation to make the playoffs. Ottawa, Boston and Philadelphia will all clinch playoff spots tonight (Boston assuming they hold onto this lead).

    2008 Final Four

Every year I'm super-excited for the first couple of rounds, reasonably into the second weekend, and by the time the Final Four comes around, I'm completely tired of college basketball. This year's not much different.

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2008

I figured that, but I still had a bit of irrational hope that I was the only one to realize Cueto was available yesterday. At least, the only one in the top 7 on the waiver list.

Both will probably miss the first round of the playoffs. But, at least it looks like the Sens will actually make the playoffs -- even if they lose to Boston tonight (which I'm expecting), I can't see Philly picking up all four points against the Devils and Penguins.

Ask and ye shall receive. Buffalo becomes the third team in NHL history to miss the playoffs the year after leading the league in points. I still can't believe it's coming down to the last game of the season for Ottawa. Rangers and Capitals both won as well. Even the beatdown of the Leafs doesn't make me feel better, after seeing Alfie get knocked into next week.

Alfie's the least of our problems. The team has just been totally fractured. There's no cohesion on the ice. I'm almost glad the game is on PPV so I won't be tempted to flip over and watch the carnage. Philadelphia should be rooting hard for the Sabres tonight. If Buffalo beats Montreal in regulation, Pittsburgh would clinch first overall and might not go all out Sunday afternoon, should it come to that.

    State of the Sports Folder

I have no real problem with anything in this folder. I've thought a bit over the last couple of months that we could use some more threads than the standard game discussion threads, as that's something we really used to have a lot more of, but I can see that that's where we've evolved to, and everyone seems to be comfortable with it. As someone who's been here for six (?!?) years, I can attest to the fact that the whole play-by-play thing used to be a LOT worse (relative to your viewpoint, I guess) than it is now. Take a look at the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs thread, or the 2003 MLB playoffs thread. That's the reason those threads went 60+ pages. It's not nearly as bad now.

I may like having Eckstein on the team after all. Apparently he has the power to will balls out of opponents' gloves just by his sheer grittiness and hustleocity. Guy makes the turn around third on a looper to shallow left -- worst baserunning decision ever -- ball comes to the plate, he's out by twenty feet...and Posada drops it.

    Worst WrestleMania from Each Era

Federation Era: WrestleMania IX. Close call between this and WrestleMania 2, but IX has virtually no redeeming factors besides being at Caesar's Palace. Special mention to WrestleMania XI for being the least special WM of all time, despite being relatively OK from a match standpoint. Attitude Era: WrestleMania XV. Not even close. This show is barely even watchable today, which is typical of the major shows in the Russo era. WrestleMania XIII had Hart/Austin, obviously, which saves it. WrestleMania XVI had the first TLC match (though not called as such) and the underrated EuroContinental title match. I can't say anything about the current era because I haven't seen them all, but it doesn't sound like there's really a bad one in the bunch.

I don't think it was a grudge with Vince so much as the Clique making sure they were on top. And, since they were all faces at the time, where was Bret going to fit in?
