Whoa! How the hell did you pick that so well!? Are you psychic, Alfdogg???

No, I can't see at all what point there could be fore bumping this thread. What cultural signficance does it have at all?

My God, Howard's going to win again.

The Australian election has been called, and looks to be incredibly close. Our current leader, John Howard and his Liberal Government, appear to have told one lie too many and the population are said to be feeling sick of his deceit, and also the poor conditions of our public health and education. On the other hand, many fear a change of government at this time of crazy foreign times, and believe that the 43-year-old, 9 months as opposition leader Mark Latham and his Labor Opposition are not a viable option to be voted for. If Howard does win, he will surpass Bob Hawke to become the second longset-serving PM ever, and will probably retire and pass the leadership onto Costello after a year. Latham would be the 3rd youngest PM ever. With the election drawing nigh, who will you vote for? Alas, I am four months too young, and hence my vote that would go to Labor in this case is not cast. But who will you pick? Labor? Liberal? Maybe even the Greens, after releasing their policies today involving decriminalising certain illegal drugs, which seems to polarise the population? If this could be pinned and/or constantly updated by all relevant people with any breaking news or whether their opinions have swung, I would be grateful. Has this been the slightest bits news making elsewhere? I am curious as to whether Australia is even a blip in the news overseas. And I certainly hope there are enough Australians on this board for this thread to work effectively.

It could've been Tiffany. But I think we're alone on that.

That's a pretty awful list you've given. Of them I'd only contemplate The Smiths and New Order as being deserving as being on this kind of list. Prince, Michael Jackson, U2, Guns N Roses, Madonna, Talking Heads and so many others are far more deserving to be on this list than the rest of them

Most people I know like bluegrass? After the US, I think Australia is the country that most loves country.

200 Children and Teachers taken hostage in school

If somebody says that they obviously don't understand the situation at hand and ought to be ignored/educated. -
200 Children and Teachers taken hostage in school

They're now saying over 300 people have died and that over a thousand had been hostage. This is absolutely horrific. -
bwahahahhahahhahaha Please Dont try to be objective, your clearly not. For examply last Week the childeren overboard was the big issue, ofcourse this week during the Senate inquiry we found out the Defense specialist had "an indepth discussion" about "3 issues" in a total of 51 seconds. Should I have used the word alleged? As in, you are allegedly an idiot? Or is that not so much an allegation as a fact? And this is because of the government? What have they done to prevent anything terrible from happening? Anyway, my main reasons for wanting Howard gone are based on his social policies within Australia. For example, we have the highest university fees in the world. The Kyoto Agreement needs to be signed. We have a a complete and utter madman in charge of our health system. Foreign policy isn't an issue for me because, honestly, I don't think the threat we face is particularly massive or intimidating.

This is mainly to bump this thread, but I can not believe that Ruddock has cited the situation at the Russian School as proof that Latham is not a good choice as leader come this election. A totally inappropriate thing to say. I think that goes to show just how bloody low this government will go to try and manipulate the voter.

Just because a certain degree of them are absolute scum of the earth types, doesn't mean that the rest of the Chechnyns should pay. Honestly I hope that they do liberate themselves and think it is something Russia really should do. This was an absolutely terrible tragedy. I think it could have been averted by both sides. Sadly, I think the way in which it will be dealt with is more violence, rather than a peaceful settlement. -
For all Americans etc, this is an Australian show, featuring John Safran who became famous when he began filming the house of an a current affairs show host and going through his rubbish bin and just downright giving him a taste of his own medicine, before finally the current affairs host pretty much attacked him and then forced his show to be taken off air (and so, of course, every single other channel showed the footage). Anyway, he now has a new television programme, an eight episode series in which he explores different religions of the world. His first programme looked at three: extremist Islam, a cult in Arizona that believes in taking a certain hallucinogen from the Peyote Cactus one gains spiritual insight and understanding and scientology. In his look at extremist Islam, he chose an Australian variety host (Rove McManus), created false evidence about his attacks on Islam and tried to see how easily he could have a fatwa placed against him. Safran went to the UK and gave a leading imam there, hated by most of the muslim world (who has placed fatwas against Tony Blair, John Major and Saldam Rushdie again), that Rove McManus has written a book entitled The Satanic Verses II. He also gave a promotional picture of Rove spraypainting an ad for his show on a wall and claimed it was mosque, convincing the imam enough that Rove deserved a "big fatwa". Safran then went to North America and drank from the liquified form of a peyote cactus, illegal only in the case of religion. One of the members of the cult told him that he didn't become psychic until after he had drank the drug. The ritual was to be out in the desert for twelve hours overnight and, through periodically drinking the peyote, become enlightened. Safran instead felt he was losing his imagination, claiming that the clouds, instead of looking like cars or people just looked like fucking clouds. And finally, he explained the beliefs of scientology and how we are all aliens sent here only for a hydrogen bomb to have been dropped down a volcano, killing us all, though our souls were captured and in the form in which we currently inhabit. It's an amazing television show, and rating quite well. Have any Australians here been watching? Do any foreigners here think it doesn't sound like crap? I've heard in the coming weeks he will try and join the Ku Klux Klan, claiming it is okay as he is only half-Jewish. I'm hooked.

Hey, I clearly remember The Body being at #1 and Once More With Feeling being #2. What's with the change here?

I say keep it as they are (I won't be voting though, I've only seen up to mid-season four on Angel), as it's less subjective that way. My question: I've looked on the tvtome website, I can't find these lists. Where are they? As in can you directly link them please?

Are you saying that's what you don't like about Bush's policies, or expressing your distaste that nobody else has mentioned them? If the former is the case, what about them do you like? If this is true I'm particularly interested in your liking Bush based on his environmental policies (which to me is one of the main reasons I dislike him).

Comic value?

You are, without a doubt in my mind, the worst and most ignorant poster these forums have ever had. I was just going to lurk and not bother posting (I think gay marriage should be a legal option, but nobody's going to persuade anybody to think differently), but over the past four pages this dickhead has been increasingly agitating to me.

Yes, global warming is a problem that has to be addressed now (thus I hope that both Bush and Howard, Australia's Prime Minister, are replaced at their upcoming elections). But I doubt that it is as terrifyingly close or sudden as that article makes it out to be. And I don't know how they know which countries will create nuclear pacts with one another. But Australia isn't mentioned, so maybe everyone, including the climate, forgets about us and our surrounding islands and we are the last remaining area inhabited by man. Fitting.
