I think "Love and Theft" was Time Out of Mind's equal. Which was five years ago, albeit, but they're his two most recent studio albums (that I know of). How about Springsteen? His tours are still selling huge and both The Rising and Devils & Dust reached #1 in both the US and UK album charts. That's pretty impressive for a guy who released his first album almost 35 years ago.

Movies that everyone loves that you cannot get the love for
spiny norman replied to Masked Man of Mystery's topic in Television & Film
De Niro? Anyway, Reservoir Dogs and Saving Private Ryan are both average movies. The first: interesting but sloppily made, the second: dull but well made. I "get" why they're loved, but I don't share it. And the Scarface remake is okay, but one of the most over-the-top unrealistic movies I've ever seen. -
Pussy. Cockroaches are completely harmless, and spiders only attack if they feel threatened. Not only that, camel spiders aren't venomous.

I joined in December 2000. But it wasn't until about November 2005 that I truly came into my own as the most riveting poster here.

Caught Kanye West in concert Sunday night. Fantastic show, but the abundance of 14 year old teenyboppers was a dampener.

I like Emotional Rescue a lot. I would argue Steel Wheels was their last "great" album (though it's not at the same level as their greatest). I'd say that Tattoo You was was almost as great an album as Some Girls, though, and probably in my top five Stones albums of all time.

If you had the chance to redo any movie
spiny norman replied to theintensifier's topic in Television & Film
No way. The Deer Hunter's near-perfect as is. The final scene is fantastic and certainly ultimately the most powerful way to end the film. Ending with De Niro hunting the deer...it'd seem forced, to me. It was made in 1930, and was remade in 1979, and that version was pretty average. If you're going to remake something, it can't be so great as half the stuff being named here. Take something good in theory but terrible in execution and remake that. Don't remake Night of the Hunter (though I see the argument) or The Deer Hunter or All Quiet on the Western Front or Magnolia. The only remakes of classics I can think of to pull it off was de Palma's Scarface and Wyler's Ben-Hur. Pretty much all the rest is bullshit, and best left untouched. -
I thought it terrible. Ridiculous plot, average acting (aside Hurt, who was decent), terrible dialogue. Gratuitous sex which added absolutely nothing to the movie. I liked the opening scene over the credits. It was all downhill from there.

I wouldn't buy any of them, but Good Night and Good Luck is worth watching.

The Bowie albums I'm a fan of: Hunky Dory The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Aladdin Sane Station to Station Low Heroes Lodger Scary Monsters Let's Dance While I am a fan of Low, I do think it is a bit overrated. It would be my least favourite of those I listed, aside perhaps Lodger.

Yeah, fuck Annie Hall. It's all right. Worth watching, not worth owning. Pretty entertaining.

As opposed to you, who knows what a bad film is without even seeing it purely based on what you think its politics may very well be. I've seen Crash and Good Night And Good Luck and really enjoyed both. I was a tad surprised Crash was nominated for as much as it was. Dillon was excellent.

You get a lot for your money in Bolivia, I checked on it.

Why is he under Miscellaneous, and not Actors?

You're calling My Humps and Lindsey Lohan boring, over-dramatic "faux-indie" tripe?

You're kidding. That's the best pop song in god knows how long. Since at least Toxic.

Pity about your English teacher.

This New Years Eve the club I was at had a massive lineup for the toilet, so I did not even bother running for the toilet when I needed to spew but instead grabbed the ashtray from the table in front of me and vomited in it. Then I hid it under the table, moved away from where I'd vomited so nobody could pin it on being me and was clearly not found out as I wasn't forced to leave.

Munich is a really great movie.
spiny norman replied to Edwin MacPhisto's topic in Television & Film
A few years ago, that was certainly true. He was a comedian/sketch comedy performer, but a pretty damn good one. I think his role in 'Chopper' is where he really showed something special, balancing between dark humour and drama, and then BHD solidified that. I hated him as a comedian. I found him truly terrible. But I've really enjoyed him as an actor. I think he's done really well for himself and is really quite talented (especially given he's made a name for himself off about three major international movies). -
What are you basing that on? From the sounds of the movie, that's exactly what he did. Guess ya missed the "based on actual events" line...that is assuming it actually IS based on actual events, and not just in the TCM way. The movie is fiction.

I don't know why that wasn't what I expected to see.

I always thought Voodoo Chile was his only chart success, anyway? Something I've wanted to know - would Sinead O'Connor be considered a one hit wonder?
-
Hyperbole much? No, not really. Who would you pick? From the past fifty years alone - John Cleese, Peter Cook, Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Woody Allen, Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Michael Palin. From the former half of the 20th century I'd say Oscar Wilde, Groucho Marx and Charlie Chaplin.
