  1. The platforming bits are generally fun, though I find I'm not always grabbing ledges when I think I should. There was one part in a sewer, where I grabbed on to a concrete ledge, but I couldn't climb up from there, and I also couldn't shimmy slightly to the left to the metal walkway. So I pretty much had to fall to my death.

When you hit that button, run across to the other side, climb up, and get through the gate before it closes, the part right after that?

If you mean that grip right after you run up the wall, you can't really fall and die, so I guess it must be some other part. :P However, I did have a similar false start there.

I think it was before that. You're in a fairly long corridor with a bunch of wide pillars, and there might be snipers on the right at the some point. I can't remember. It was just an odd situation where I grabbed one surface, and couldn't transition to a different surface, literally right next to it.

The combat definitely has a learning curve to it. And you'll die. A lot. I think it's fun, though. There's a lot of little tricks I could/should be using, including the X-button slowdown bit. I should also use the RB 180° turn more, though even with my limited first-person experience, I tend to just do it the old-fashioned way. You really need to hit and run, especially with multiple enemies in a group. You'll only take a few shots or melee attacks before you die, but you do regenerate health somewhat quickly. And using guns is actually useful sometimes.

  2. I picked it up today. I like it so far. Though it's definitely not a perfect game, by any means.

Or I'm not able to climb on to some surfaces, for some reason. I just got past a part where I could climb on to shipping containers, but not a building ledge to get to its roof. And it wasn't because it was too high.

And the proper path isn't always clear. A lot of times, I end up having to cheat with the B button to just figure out where it is I'm supposed to go.

I do like the general game concept; the art style; the voice work; the controls are pretty good for the mostpart. You will die a lot, but you're re-loaded pretty close to where you died within about 4 seconds. Technically, it looks really good too. There's a few minor pop-in issues here and there, and the animation when the guards fall over is kind of goofy.

I am very happy to announce here (before anywhere else) that next week's DLC offering will be the Foo Fighter's The Colour and the Shape album (one of my favorites). With “Everlong” already featured on the Rock Band 2 soundtrack, the DLC album will include the following tracks:

    1. "Doll"

    2. "Monkey Wrench"

    3. "Hey, Johnny Park!"

    4. "My Poor Brain”

    5. "Wind Up"

    6. "Up in Arms"

    7. "My Hero"

    8. "See You”

    9. "Enough Space"

    10. "February Stars”

    11. "Walking After You”

    12. “New Way Home”

The Colour and the Shape will be available for download starting November 11, 2008, for the Xbox®360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and November 13, 2008, for the PS3. Pricing will be $19.99 (1600 Microsoft Points) for the album, or $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) per track. All tracks are masters.

    FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Bump for impending release.

I've got the LE pre-ordered, and I'll probably go to the midnight launch at EB. I'm trying to get through the PC original for the first time. Ran into what might be the final boss, then decided to quit for the night.

  6. I listened to the songs last night, and I can't claim to hate any of them. At least half were fun to listen to, with maybe 6 or 7 being kind of unremarkable.

"Prequel To The Sequel" by Between the Buried and Me would be very cool as an instrumental. With the screaming vocals... not so much. "Like a Fool" by Shaimus is groovy. My bud referred to Lesley Roy as "Discount Paramore", but I kinda like Paramore, so she could be alright. Though probably not as fun on drums. "Ashes To Fire" by The Ghost Hounds has a bluesy/funk feel to it. "I Wanna Be Your Man" by Endeverafter sounds like a fun strummer with a gonzo solo on guitar. "Bounce" by The Cab -- Same bud: "It's like N'Sync with more guitar." Should send the metalheads into a tizzy.

And "Magnetic Baby" by Semi-Precious Weapons just needs to be pointed out for the video:

  7. Can't remember if this was mentioned already. If you bought Rock Band 2 new, you can register on a website with the code on the back of your instruction manual to get 20 free DLC tunes. Those songs have been revealed, and they're available November 4th:

  8. You could probably get some Unreal Tournament games pretty cheap. I don't honestly know which one is best, or has the most active online community. Though I think UT3 was kind of shunned for some reason. 2004 might be better. It's pretty much mindless run-and-gun, as far as I know. As opposed to tactical, which I imagine Counterstrike would be.

For RTSes, maybe World in Conflict, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes. Again, I'm not really familiar with the community, or balance issues, or anything like that. There's also Red Alert 3 coming out soon.

  9. Surround sound question:

I'm looking at a receiver/speaker package. It features two RCA audio ins. One would be for my television, the other for my boombox. If my 360's plugged into my television, will the receiver recognise it, or do I need to run the 360 directly into the receiver? I don't have the adapter that came with the HDMI kit, if that matters (which I hope it does not).

No one answered this in the HDTV thread, and incredibly, no one GameFaqs really answered it. Anyone noticing a pattern?

If your TV has RCA audio/speaker out (red & white), I don't see why not. I've got my old 2.1 computer speakers hooked up to the TV using the "Video Game Adapter".

If your TV has HDMI, I would imagine it has audio out as well.

I don't know if this is in your price range, but it's apparently a decent 7.1 receiver for the price. On sale today only, I believe. You'd need to get speakers as well, though. And possibly cables. I don't know much about audio setups.

  10. I got mine in April. After the price drop, Future Shop was selling the 20GB for $199 with two games. :(

My only saving grace was that I didn't pay tax. And I've had quite a bit of fun during these 6 months. $125 is quite a bit to me, but... hindsight.

  11. I'm not entirely sure who to vote for yet. ABC is pretty much the only thing in mind. I'm not especially inclined to vote Liberal for whatever reason, but here in London West, it's supposed to be a close race between Sue Barnes (Lib) and Ed Holder (Con). So I'm more likely to vote strategically for Sue, rather than otherwise, for Peter Ferguson (NDP) or Monica Jarabek (Green). I don't like the Conservative stance on C-61 (DMCA CA), and Ed Holder's debate answer of reducing carbon emissions by 20% by 2020 seemed pretty weak to me.

Apparently my sister had Monica as a high school teacher, and was accused of cheating on a test once. Not because there was any proof, but because she didn't believe my sister was capable of getting such a grade. <_< Or something like that. This is more or less what my dad told me tonight. So that kinda soured me on her. Not to mention the 2 ridiculously long roadside Green Party sign lines I saw while out driving today. Roughly 20 signs in a row down a stretch of Wonderland Rd. And another dozen, I think down Hyde Park Rd. That shit irritates me.

  12. There were some concerns about the New Xbox Experience requiring 128MB of storage in order to... I dunno, either install, or store, or both the data involved. Major Nelson said they'd be offering storage solutions. Lo and behold, they're actually pretty decent. It appears to be an offer for a free 512MB memory card or a $20 20GB hard drive (possibly refurbs) to Arcade and Core owners.

  13. The controller that came with my Xbox 360 when I got it back in April had a slightly bad analog stick. I eventually got around to sending it to them at the end of August. One reason I took so long was that I was told I'd have to pay to ship it to them. That didn't sit well with me, considering it didn't work well right out of the box. That, and I'm not rolling in dough, so $10 isn't insignificant to me. (The other reason is that I have another controller, and play Rock Band 80% of my 360-related time.) I sent it August 27th for the cheapest option available--about $8.50--and went about waiting, since MS said it might take up to 6 weeks.

This week, I came across the post office receipt, and noticed there was a tracking number on it. (Regular Parcel didn't come with tracking a few years ago.) I checked it on Canada Post's site, and the most recent entry was "Item out for delivery" on September 2nd. No delivery confirmation. I called MS, and sure enough, they don't know where it is. I called Canada Post, and the lady said someone would look into it. Given that the package probably went missing over a month ago, and Regular Parcel isn't insured (for some reason, I thought it was up to $100), I think I'm kinda boned.

So I'm a little pissed at MS for making me pay to ship their busted controller, a little pissed at Canada Post for losing the thing, and a little pissed at myself for not paying an extra dollar or so for Xpresspost/insurance. aimpiss.gif

For people who like everything about porn...except the sex.

How many times have you been watching a great porn film - you're really enjoying the story, the acting, the cinematography - when, all of the sudden, they ruin everything with PEOPLE HAVING SEX?

    A bunch of times, right?

That's why I, along with my brothers Brian and Sean, have created James Gunn's PG Porn. It's pornography everyone can enjoy, not just perverts.
