I loved this show. It was like the most indy-tastic thing ever and didn't take itself too seriously. I didn't read a single thing about it before hand, so I marked when I saw some of the random guys like X-Pac, Jesus, and f'n NEW JACK. I was almost hoping that the former X-Factor partners would square off for this new title.

Greatest WWF Matches of the 90's Poll/Tourney
Just John replied to AboveAverage484's topic in General Wrestling
UT vs. Mankind is one of the most important matches of the 90's, but it wasn't good at all. The only reason it still holds up for shock value is JR's selling, and the tooth in the nose. Beyond that, it's an ugly mess of a match. Granted, there are perfectly valid reasons for it sucking that I won't hold against either participant, but still. -
Why couldn't these 3 do the dunk contest? And fuck that CBA rule... I don't wanna see Lil Nate spend 30 minutes trying to successfully complete a dunk.
-
WWE is a lot more creative with their attempted murders.
-
Question about the ending that really confused me:
-
Man, the Nets just had the shittiest week in NBA history. Three losses in a row all by last-second 3's? You have to feel a little bad for them.
-
I think something needs to be done to spice up the slam dunk contest, or at least avoid an embarrassment like last year where Nate Robinson missed like 15 dunks in a row but still won. Give some incentive to get good people in there, please.

The OAO Raw Thread for 22/01/07
Just John replied to Prime Time Andrew Doyle's topic in The WWE Folder
Not too bad of a show. Not particularly great, but there were some standout points. Candice deserves a ton of credit for her in-ring improvement. I was surprised to see her be the hot tag, but she pulled it off very well. The finish wasn't what it was supposed to be, but it worked. Maybe it's too early to start calling her the "next Trish," but she has been consistently improving over the last year. If WWE hired models with work ethic like this, no one would be opposed to it. Khali getting face cheers was weird. Guy could probably be a good addition to the show if he could actually bump. Unfortunately, the invincibility routine can only go so far. I'm surprised they ran a street fight that brutal the week before the Rumble and with a top face already on the shelf. There were a couple points in that match it looked like Michaels could have been seriously hurt. It was a fun match, but I am shocked about the timing. And before the R-RKO split gets too far along, the writers should remember they need to get the tag titles off them. -
WWE and NJ are the tops for worst promotion? Yikes.

It's the Godzilla theme.

You're not going to seriously tell me the Colts and Bears don't have glaring holes in their game, are you?
-
Well, if people actually are watching Impact and are not being adequately tempted to buy the ppvs, then you can't logically conclude the shows are doing their jobs. That would make the shows "not good" in a business sense.
-
Two wildly inconsistent teams with lots of holes and weaknesses going at it for the biggest prize in sports. Yippee. Who cares about pre-game hype, the actual game looks like trash.
-
Both of those teams were actually playing at the top of their game going in. The actual game didn't really deliver (except for me because I'm a Steelers fan), but there's a wide quality gap in the teams. The 05 Steelers and Seahawks would wipe the floor with the 06 Bears and Colts.
-
I know I personally have no interest in seeing the Bears and Colts play each other. I'll watch it, because you know, it's the f'n Super Bowl, but I'm not all that pumped about it. If this happened back in October when both teams were dominant, it would be interesting. In their current wildly inconsistent states? Not so much. At least the two week layoff won't bother me.
-
Hmm... That roughing the passer penalty was weak, but the Patriots didn't deserve to win anyway. The special teams looked like the only NE unit that bothered to show up for the second half. I think the SB is gonna be an ugly, ugly game.
-
Well, I said the key would be to establish the run, and it looks like that's what happened on the offensive side. Chicago used the run to build up the big lead, and the Saints could never get it going. A pass-only offense will never get it done in the NFL. And the Bears D was sharp most of the game. They never let the Saints capitalize on any momentum they were given after the long Bush play. That missed FG (which I don't even know why it was attempted given the distance and conditions) was the beginning of the end.

I so want the Pats and Saints to win, just to see everyone here flip out if nothing else. There'd have to be at least 10 pages of bitterness and terrible attempts at humor before the game started in the SB thread. Looking at the actual games this weekend, I think the field is pretty wide open. Both matchups are up for grabs, as each team has certain weaknesses that can be exploited. I think the home teams on paper could have a slight edge, but last week's Pats/Chargers game showed the better paper team isn't always the better team. If Peyton Manning pulls his head out of his ass, the Colts should win. The defense has been playing very well, and while New England is better offensively than the two teams the Colts have seen thus far, they're not a powerhouse by any means. However, if Peyton can't get the offense moving, the Pats won't need to score that many points to win. Indy's defense will need to force some 3rd and longs to keep Tom Brady from driving down the field with short-medium range passes. For Indy to have the best shot at winning, they need to run up the score early and try to deflate the Pats. If the game stays close, the advantage has to be with New England. In the other conference, You'd think Chicago has a big advantage with the weather slowing the Saints offense, but it might be a double edged sword. If there's snow, wind, cold, etc, the deep ball isn't likely to be a threat, and that's the Saints' biggest weakness on defense. If it comes down to a running game, I like the team with Deuce McAllister leading the way and Reggie Bush to mix things up over a team with Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson. The Seahawks showed you can put up points on the Bears' D, but you have to stop the offense too. I don't know if I wanna beat this dead horse, but I will say Drew Brees has shown a lot more poise in pressure situations than Rex Grossman this year. For both teams, the real key is establishing the run. Whoever does that more effectively should take this one.

When will the Pacers get their new guys on the floor?
-
One of them will actually wind up as the 6 (most likely the Lakers or Rockets) because the Northwest Division winner will get the 4 spot. Maybe the Rockets can repeat what they did in the 94-95 sesason.

I think AJ's homophobia is well documented, but that caller was definitely trolling. It was a little funny.

The Paul Heyman Smackdown shoot on McMahon
Just John replied to Man Who Sold The World's topic in General Wrestling
The part about WWE imploding from within obviously wasn't true 5 years ago, and still isn't. The part about Vince's ideas being out of touch has been true for a long time. In spite of that, people should realize WWE will be in far more trouble when Vince dies than they were/are/will be at any point during his life. -
Well, I think the angle is stupid because there's no good way it can end. Hogan w/Trump vs. Khali w/Vince isn't quality sports entertainment, and I'm not sure how many people actually want to see that, even with Hogan in it. I do agree that it's stupid to make tv so bad that it will turn away viewers even if the real goal is to put over Vince's character. And if they don't introduce a protagonist quickly (no, Carlito doesn't count), they might counterproductively lose viewers. People calling Vince dumb for putting out stupid skits that only he thinks are funny is the only part of the angle that is actually working, though.
