Why do you hate ... who you hate?

St. Louis Rams- Mike Martz b/c he is Satan, Marshall Faulk b/c in 2000 he took a swing at one of the Saints players in week 17 and was NOT ejected. The league said he should have been. He would then proceed to rush for some stupid # of touchdowns forcing the Saints to play them in the Wildcard round instead of getting a bye. (we would then be blown out by the...Vikings) (note: Kyle Turley is exempt from this hatred as I feel he is really a Saints spy sent in to get secrets in case the divisions get realigned again) Minnesota Vikings- They beat the Saints in the 2nd round of the playoffs in a total football massacre. Randy Moss got of easy when he hit that cop with his car. And his recent antics come to mind. New York Yankees- I think this has been covered by other members. Plus I lost too much money betting against them in the 90s. Florida Atlantic University- They gave our QB a concussion a few years back, and they celebrated with things like "bring in the body bag" and all sorts of other madness. University of South Florida- They too had some seriously rude fans. They were constantly throwing stuff at us and not once was anyone of them admonished by security. Northwestern State of LA- Bunch of pompus North Louisiana Bible Belt wanna be types. North Texas- Their coach is too pompous considering the level his team plays at. On scheduling a I-aa team "I wanted to play a team so we could beat them 150-0 and gain some confidence." He was about 127 points off of his prediction.

    The Royal Rumble Thread

My years for all intents and purposes will probably be thrown off. 1.) Favorite world title match at the PPV? As said before, if 1992 Rumble Match counts, that one... if not... I believe it was 96 or 97... Bret/Undertaker... fun match until Nash (as Diesel) interfered. 2.) Favorite Rumble match? I'm biased to 2001 since I was there. 93 was great fun watching too though. The ending with Savage being bench pressed over the top was pretty cool. 3.) Favorite Rumble match elimination? Hogan pulling Sid out of the ring with Flair's help in 1992 4.) Favorite mini-match within the Rumble? Maven and Undertaker in 2002. Welcome to the WWE Maven! Also Bret/Luger 1994 resulting in the dual elimination/victory. 5.) Favorite non-world title, non-Rumble match? Not a great match per se, but Rowdy Roddy Piper vs. The Mountie in 1992 was historic in it was Piper's first WWF/WWE singles title. It also provided an extra story line that night with the whole "can he be the first person to win 2 titles in one night?" 6.) Favorite pre-Rumble promo? All of them for 1992 and 1993. After that they seemed to have lost their touch. I remember once Big Boss Man saying "Royal Rumble, 29 men, all serving hard time.." and the running joke with my best friend after Bossman got eliminated was "Nope you're serving hard time, no title for you." Also the arrogance Jeff Jarrett had in his one return saying "I'm throwing my hat into the Royal Rumble" just screamed to me at the time "HATE HIM!" 7.) Things you hated besides Vince winning the '99 Rumble? One minute b/t entrants in 1995. Took away from an awesome rumble win by HBK. Also anytime a move like a stunner or pedigree is used as an elimination move. I mean any other time someone got the stunner, they're laid out. Austin does it (specifically 1998 on Rock) and the guy stands up to be thrown out. BOOO!!

    Why ya like...

Football New Orleans Saints- I've lived less than an hour away from New Orleans my entire life, so it was only natural. Pittsburgh Steelers- Big Ben this year impressed me and I've become a bandwagon fan. Carolina Panthers- They were underdogs (1-15 a few years back) and I felt sorry for them. Then the Saints foolishly let Jake Delhomme sign with them and now they are major contenders. Jake is a home state hero on so many levels. Baseball White Sox- Lame reason, but my little league team was the White Sox. We catch the games here on WGN and I became a huge Frank Thomas fan as a result. Cubs- The whole WGN thing... Red Sox - because they feud with the Yankees. Colleges- Nicholls State University- I got my degree there, and spent five straight football seasons in the stadium screaming when I wasn't playing. (in band) Now I'm a member of the Alumni Federation, and probably next year joining the Athletic (sp?) Booster Club. Tulane- When I was in High School, they invited us to go play for them since they don't have a marching band apparently. They won the game we went to like 67-30 whatever against LA Tech. That was they year they went undefeated, 1998 I think. Boise State- Blue turf... like whoa... Yeah. Troy State- Yeah they always killed us in football when they were still I-AA and the year we played them while they were transitioning to I-A, but when we drove out there for the game, the boosters there were very nice to us and gave us all kinds of free concessions. Now it's good to see them being competitive at the I-A level. I don't buy into the LSU hype like most people in the state. I did go to a game this year for the first time, and it was impressive, but not life changing like some people I know have claimed. In 2003 I intentionally bought an OU hat just to be an antagonist to the people around here. And No, I'm not saying I'm an OU fan.

The Orange Bowl Thread, Take 2

Eh, I know it's not a lot of people, but when we played there, USF posted official attendance at around 33,000. And we were a 1-aa program. 30,000 people in Raymond James is no where's near a sell out, but it still was loud as hell. And what's stopping Auburn and USC from playing some sandlot football with each other? They are all over 18 and they do get some time off.
  8. http://www.i-aa.com/news/article_7619.shtml A-10 surpasses non-BCS leagues in FB ratings Otto Fad, CFAA/I-AA.com Jan 2, 2005, 15:28 Email this article Printer friendly page With just two games to go in the 2004-05 college football season, the I-AA Atlantic-10 Conference ranks above three I-A leagues in the current Sagarin Division I computer ratings. According to Sagarin's statistical means, the A-10 ranks as the ninth-strongest football conference in all of Division I, trailing only the six BCS leagues, the Mountain West, and by a narrow margin, the Western Athletic (WAC). The combined I-A Independents (Navy and Notre Dame) rank behind just three I-A conferences. The A-10 leads Conference-USA by a razor-thin .01, and easily tops the Sun Belt and Mid-American (MAC) Conferences. The A-10 sent four teams to the I-AA playoffs in 2004, including eventual national champions James Madison University. That's one less team than the MAC sent bowling in I-A, yet the A-10 stands nearly ten full percentage points above the I-A league. Two other I-AA associations -- the fledgling Great West and the established Big Sky - also rank above the MAC. Individually, nine of the A-10's twelve teams (JMU, William & Mary, New Hampshire, Delaware, Villanova, Northeastern, Massachusetts, Maine, and Hofstra) rank among the top 100 NCAA Division I football teams in the Sagarins, led by No. 34 JMU. Even the lowest-ranked A-10 program (No. 164 Towson) ranks above five I-A teams. Other interesting tidbits: × The top-rated Sun Belt team, Troy State, would rank No. 5 in the Atlantic 10 Football Conference. × The Sun Belt’s champion, North Texas, would be No. 10 in the Atlantic 10. × Every A-10 team stands above five teams from the Mid-American Conference × Only four teams from non-BCS leagues (Utah, Boise State, Louisville, and Fresno State) have a higher Sagarin rating than I-AA National Champions JMU. × 18 of the Sagarin top 100 Division I programs come from I-AA. I went to a 1-AA football school and we would play a lot of 1-A programs rather close, and one year actually beat one (albiet Arkansas State). It's good to see that the smaller programs are getting some form of respect. (I remember someone once saying "who cares about 1-AA?" well this is the thread for those who could say "I do")

I cannot see Jason White getting drafted at all. Though with the way the game goes, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he signs as an undrafted free agent as a third string QB, toils for 2 or 3 years and then the 1st and 2nd stringer goes down and he becomes a Cinderella story. OR something realistic could happen

If I paid all that money to go to, as well as just the ticket for a seat, I would not leave early, regardless of score. I have left 2 games as a spectator early. One was a high school game that my alma mater was losing 40-0 in the 2nd quarter. The other was in college at an away game, and it was not my decision, but the band directors. It was pouring down rain, 35 degrees with 20 mph winds, and we were... you guessed it, losing. Other than that, I've sat end to end for every game I attended.

Is Mike Martz a crappy coach that you hate?

I half expect to walk through the gates of hell and see Mike Martz there in a red suit, horns coming out of his head, holding a pitchfork, saying "welcome to hell!" followed by some pun or play on words with the "greatest show on turf" gimmick. When they were in the division with New Orleans, beating them was just oh the more sweeter being in the division. It was still pretty sweet earlier this season when we beat them too, but I digress. I vote yes, and if I could do it more, I would.

A-10 surpasses non-BCS leagues in FB ratings

Last season, Northwestern State of Louisiana (Southland conference)took Tulane to overtime. This year the same 1-AA took it to UL Lafayette for all they were worth as well. Last year Nicholls State (whoo Go Colonels) went 3 1/2 quarters with C-USA USF finally getting out maned in the last 7 minutes to fall 21-17. For the record that game was the most fun I had losing. Watching the little brother of 2 NFL kickers (Grammatica) getting blocked 3 times was very vindicating for our travel time. A-10, Big Sky, and Southland are VERY competitve 1-aa conferences. As far as anyone wanting to play Louisville, every conference has that one superior team. Some have more than others.

I'm going to assume that Vandy, Mississippi State, and the like brought the overall rating down. Does that make sense?

Whoo Southland conference! Who am I kidding? My alma mater lost it's head football coach AND basketball coach before each respective season started. Dang the luck. Not that we're ever that competitive anyway.

Flair to the WWF in 1991

I was 10 and pretty stupid at the time and during one of the Survivor Series promos, Flair was with his group talking, wearing just his belt and his tights. They were talking the usual heel stuff. Only thing is, they had the belt scrambled out, and stupid me thought the man was naked. My thoughts were "Now that's a man that is stuck on himself." Um, it's important to note, I had just started watching 2 or 3 months beforehand, so I might have over looked the whole belt angle at the time.
  21. In reference to moves leading up to the submission, The Great Bret Hart always confused me in this aspect.... Leading up to the sharpshooter, he would do the Russian Leg Sweep, 2nd Rope Elbow, and then the Sharpshooter... None of the two previous moves targeted the legs/lowerback, yet that is what I assumed the sharpshooter to cause pain. (Also I think there was a 3rd move before the leg sweep and elbow... possibly a backbreaker? Either way, that doesn't make up for the other two)

    SmackDown! Spoilers

Well, if they were in the UNO Lakefront Arena, it's not hard to fill up. It's the red headed stepchild of the New Orleans Superdome and Mini-Me (the arena). I remember as a child (1985) going there to see Chipmunks on Ice and THAT sold out. Lakefront Arena is basically an overrated Civic Center/Barn Yard. You'd think they'd use it more for a house show. Last 3 LA shows I went to, RR2001 (N.O. Arena) Smackdown Dec 2001 (N.O. Arena) and Raw --Invasion Era, Rock and Angle had the WWE/WCW titles talking about strudels (Baton Rouge Riverside arena)- All were packed houses (duh on Rumble). They could have filled the N.O. Arena up. *still waiting on a Superdome WM*

Kyle Turley threatens to kill Mike Martz

When Turley played for New Orleans, they had a practice in my hometown. My dad being on the police force here had to particiapte in the security escort. Well I don't remember if it was Loomis or if Mueller was still GM, but he rode with my dad. Anyway, my dad was like "yeah, my boy is a big Turley fan, you think I'd be able to get an autograph for him?" The GM was like "yeah Kyle is REALLY good about signing stuff for the fans." (I think my dad presented it as though I was a really small child) Anyway, he just happened to have a football in his car with him and after the practice, Turley approached my dad and said "I hear you wanted an autograph for your son?" My dad said "that was one big s.o.b.! I would hate to run into him in a dark alley, or on a football field!" So anyway, Turley asked for my name, and gave me a personalized autograph. It pretty much devestated me when he left. Especially by going to the Rams that were such big rivals. Anyway, I think people know by now how to take Turley. He won't kill Martz (intentionally). At most he'll rip the head set off and throw it. (Hey if the head is still attatched, so be it). What really ticked me off is how people turned on him. My college was the team practice facility for like 2 or 3 seaons, and he referred to the town as a toilet, and made some not so kind remarks about the dorms... well, he was right. I don't see what people were in such a tizzy over.

    These New F'N "Tribute" CD's!!!!

The local sam goody has in the Green Day section a "Tribute to Green Day" with a generic sticker that says "stock with Green Day." It has no info on who actually does the tribute, but it looks pretty low budget. It IS only 9.99 but I don't think I trust it. I also own a cd with music inspired by the Final Fantasy series. Now that is a pretty nice CD. They have the Final Fantasy VI theme with a tremendous amount of bass. It is window vibrating. Yes, I admit to "jamming" out to that
