Hey now, they're still mathematically eligible to go 13-3
-
Have nothing better to do at the office so here's my amateur predictions off the top of my head. Any resemblance to professional journalism is a miracle. Atlanta @ Carolina: This is going to be a hot divisional game. Delhomme and Ryan amazingly have near mirror passing stats. Atlanta has a stronger running game but a lot of that is fueled by their week one performance @ Detroit with that monster showing by Turner. Going purely on experience, I pick Carolina. As far as I can tell they seem to have similar strengths and weaknesses. Cleveland @ Cincinnati: Ok *someone* has to win this game (assuming no tie). Palmer is gimpy. But then so is a lot of play makers for the Browns. I don't like the depth behind Palmer (as of this writing they only have Harvard man Fitzpatrick). There is more pressure on Cleveland I feel. Cinci took the Giants to the wire last week. The Bengal offense seems to have been more potent thus far this season, and they are the home team. I'll spot them as the winner with a home field advantage. Houstn @ Jacksonville: A critical AFC South match up to try and catch the....Titans? The Jags figured out how to win last week against the Colts. They've been more competitive in their games than the Texans. Houston has some good playmakers in Johnson, Slaton, and don't sleep on Ahman Green. Matt Schaub is bound to get on track otherwise get benched in favor of Sage Rosenfals (I can't be bothered to look the spelling up, I'm writing off the top my head here). Jack Del Rio is a great coach and I think he'll have them prepared to compete and not suffer a let down after a big win. Houston, I fear, won't get picked by too many people even if they do start winning. I'll take the Jaguars. Denver @ Kansas City: I read somewhere that the QB carousel will continue in KC and Huard is going to start again. KC is in a state of confusion with no consistency. I mean Larry Johnson is alway great, and they have some good players on offense but they're not doing much of anything. And they have a guy marketed as the best football player in the draft, Glenn Dorsey, not exactly lighting the world on fire on the defensive side. I recognize this is a major division game and Cutler has good luck against the Chiefs. I smell a trap game though. I don't know why. I'm picking Denver though. I know there's an upset every week but I'm not committing to it here. San Fransisco @ New Orleans: JT O'Sullivan visits the team that drafted him. I predict pain for the guy. I like JT but the Saints are looking for blood. Saints have a lot of injuries in the receiving corps. Their defense is suspect. Mike Martz is known for drawing up good offensive schemes and could have a field day on the Saints D. For some reason, Deuce has been dressing out but not playing because according to Sean Payton, "There's a difference between healthy and ready." Look I'm already annoyed with most of Payton's decisions (like drafting Robert Meachum last year instead of DEFENSE!) and if Deuce is healthy, the FREAKING PLAY HIM! In any case, I predict the Good Saints show up for the home crowd. Arizona @ New York Jets: Man, who woulda thought in the preseason what a treat this game has the potential to be. I am envious of anyone that gets to watch it! The Cardinals are a surprise so far (which with the talent they have shouldn't be the case) and the Jets have Brett Favre! With Favre on a bad ankle, they'll be relying heavily on the running game. This will chew up clock. Its no secret that Arizona has on paper as dynamic of an offense as you will ever see with James, Warner, Fitzgerald, and Boldin plus my favorite FCS RB from the draft, Hightower. So lets assume they score quick. And the jets chew up clock like I predict. Honestly, I have no idea what is going to happen. You have to be balanced in the NFL. Right now, the Cardinals look to be the more balanced team. Granted, even injured, Brett Favre is still Brett Favre. I'm going with the trendy Cardinals though. Green Bay @ Tampa Bay: It's the battle of the Bays! I'll be rooting for the Packers in this one so that the Bucs can get knocked down to .500 for my Saints. I know Green Bay is good. The Bucs, I watched them play the Saints. I've seen the highlights from their other games. Still I can't just get a good read on them. I feel like the Pack is a better 2-1 team. Minnesota @ Tennessee: No! Tennessee is NOT really this good. Kerry Collins has no business being on an undefeated squad. Minnesota, I think, figured things out last week. Gus Ferotte balances things out more and they can not ride Adrian Peterson into a early retirement with excessive carries. Granted, he's questionable anyway but still, point stands. No team is going undefeated this season, and this week the reaper dials up Tennessee. San Diego @ Oakland: Seriously, if the Chargers lose to the Raiders, Norv Turner is instantly on the hot seat. If the Raiders lose, well Monday morning should be fun to listen to the radio and watch the sports shows. I feel bad for Lane Kiffin. You don't want to turn down a head coaching job in the NFL because that's an awesome job to have, but heck man, Al Davis is freaking bonkers! Anyway, what can you say about the Chargers? They did some amazing things this past Monday night. Oakland is a lot like Arizona, talent wise. They have too much talent in that club to be so, I won't say bad, inconsistent. They can win. Heck they almost beat a very good Buffalo team. Still, I see San Diego taking this one. Buffalo @ Saint Louis: The Bills are another surprise AFC team that is undefeated up to this point. Saint Louis, hating them right now is just like hating Forest Gump. He's completely harmless, why bother wasting your energy on him? There was some legit concern on PTI the other day about Trent Green getting on a football field, and I only wonder if Trent himself isn't a little nervous considering he should have retired the way things went down last season. I give the man props. I don't think benching Bulger was the right decision though. What can I say about Buffalo? I hope Trent Edwards keeps doing good because I don't like JP Losman. Lynch would have been rookie of the year last year (at least offensively) if Adrian Peterson had stayed in school. Remembering what I said about Tennessee how no one is going undefeated this season? That still applies, just not this week for Buffalo. They will win. Washington @ Dallas: Dallas is flying high right now. They beat, talent wise, their closest NFC peer last week in a game that was very entertaining. Still, their defense, while coming through in a pinch, isn't the most comforting. For Dallas fans, anytime Campbell gets more than 3 seconds in the pocket, you should fret because receivers are getting open down field against the likes of Roy "15 yard Horse Collar Penalty" Williams, Adam "I should only be on the return team" Jones, Anthony Henry, and Terrance "Hope I don't Get hurt again" Newman. Williams, I think, is out though if I am remembering correctly, so good news, that stout, stellar, Courtney Brown will be taking over. And hey at least you got Zach Thomas out there at line backer. He gets an extra few inches for batting down passes when he raises his walker over his head and starts swinging it around. Dallas can score. There is no bones about that. I am a very big Tony Romo fan. I'm not talking crap to rile people up. But like the Saints in 2007, I'd be very angry that their top priority was (offense) a running back as low as they took good old Felix (I really like this kid regardless) instead of defense (I mean if they were going for Jenkins anyway and all) and why isn't their first round CB not playing? Frankly, I would have taken defense for both picks and if you want a running back, Kevin Smith from UCF lasted until the third round. But I'm just spouting off irrelevant things at this point. In any case, I think the Dallas O can out score the Redskin O. Their D needs to show up like they did against Cleveland and not like they did against Philly and to a lesser extent last week @ GB. Philadelphia @ Chicago: "The Eagles are going to average 37.5 points over the first 2 games but only win one of them. THEN they'll score 15 points on the Steelers...and win. Also, the Bears are going to start Kyle Orton against the Colts...and win! But this team, which was suddenly good enough to beat the Colts, will lose the next 2 games!!!" Anyone making this statement in the preseason would hopefully be getting released from the mental institution this week. Philly is a good team. Chicago, has Matt Forte' from Tulane who is hopefully helping them forget about Cedric Benson. Devin Hester is hurt and questionable so that takes away their ace in the hole. I'm going to pick Philly on this one. Baltimore @ Pittsburgh: Baltimore is 2-0 having one game postponed. They are 2-0 against teams that are stinking the place up right now. They have a rookie quarterback from FCS Delaware starting. And with the stable of running backs they have, they should really be lightning up the rushing stats. Which honestly, duh, you don't want a rookie QB just throwing it all over the field. Their defense? Well, it's the Ravens, stupid. Of course they have an admirable defense. The Steelers have Big Ben hurt. He's playing and he's not doing too much the last few weeks. Willie Parker is hurt, and rookie Rashad Mendenhall probably was about to have a good game except he text messaged Ray Rice, his friend, and said he'd have a good game. Rice, then showed the text to his buddies on defense. They weren't amused. #34 now has a big bulls eye on his back....front...whatever. This game is going to be ugly, dirty, and old fashioned football. If the combined score breaks 27 I'll be impressed, honestly. I'm picking the home team.

I did find the episode late in the night last night online and watched it. I enjoyed it fully. I didn't get to see a preview for next week though so we'll see.
-
Has to work tonight. My office hasn't had cable since Gustav. We have had the TV on the last few days so we'd know when we got service. 2 minutes left into the episode the TV comes on so I freaked and changed the channel not to spoil it. It WILL be online soon right?

Take a shot every time Andrea says "how's your shoulder" and Ben says "offensive line"

nothing better to do in this hotel room: Washington over NY Giants. I see an offensive flurry on both sides but Washington's young defense pulls off one more stop than the Gmen. Cincinnati over Baltimore. I think the world of Joe Flacco but there is no way in hell the Ravens pull this one off. Seattle over Buffalo. This one I think can go either way but I have more faith in the Seattle O-line than I do the Buffalo O-line. NY Jets over Miami- Week one loss for the rebuilding but much improved Dolphins. They will be legit in about 6 weeks though. Still neither one of these teams is playoff caliber. Favre or not. Hell even Alan Faneca can't save this team. Sorry Jets fans. Philadelphia over ST Louis. Ladies and Gentlemen lets welcome back Donovan McNabb to the NFL. This season is for Andy Reid's job. Like the Dolphins, Saint Louis still has a few weeks before they gel into cohesiveness. 4-4 in the first half the season would be great for them. Detroit over Atlanta if only because Matt Ryan isn't ready yet. Oh and that whole I question their running game. And Detroit has Barry Sanders part II at Tailback. Just watch. Smith is going to be a beast. Pittsburgh over Houston. Pittsburgh is my AFC team so this is slightly a biased pick. But even with the loss of Faneca the line still will produce major room for Parker and Mendanhall. Lets also not for get Pittsburgh has a stacked defense that doesn't get the credit it deserves. Houston has some major weapons though. New Orleans over Tampa Bay. Total homer pick. Period. Realistically though I expect the Saints to be tired with all the Gustav traveling and such. Still I don't feel as though Tampa Bay has done much in the off season to improve themselves. Yes they've made acquisitions but I don't feel its put them in a better place. New England over Kansas City. Because Tom F. Brady is playing, that is why. Jacksonville over Tennessee. This one comes down to a field goal. Look for both teams to grind it out though. This one could easily hit around 400 yards rushing between the 2 teams. Should be the quickest game of the week as a result. Dallas over Cleveland in a shoot out. This game will be the passing equivalent to the Jax/Tenn game except I expect a little more balance on the Dallas side of the ball. Though if Dallas can establish a good 14 point lead early and start grinding it out with Jones and Barber before halftime, Anderson might start forcing stuff in the later part of the 3rd quarter. I'm looking at Jamal Lewis and while he's just around 30, I don't feel he is the RB he was a few years ago. I expect a down year from him. Just a hunch. San Fransisco over Arizona- Leinart is in by the fourth quarter of a 21-0 game and probably leads them back to around 20 points. He then is the starter for the rest of the season. San Diego over Carolina. I am a hardcore Jake Delhomme fan. Like him and Ben Roethlisberger are my top 2 non Saints players. And Johnathan Stewart was a FABULOUS draft pick for Carolina. But he is not LaDanian Tomilson. I'm not predicting a blow out because Carolina tends to surprise and SD started slow last year. Still if I was betting, which I'm not, I'd call SD. Indianapolis over Chicago. This game reminds me of the opening games in college football. FBS Colts versus FCS Bears. Future first ballot hall of famer, Kyle Orton, leads his bears to within 35 points of the Colts avoiding a shut out. Oh and by Hall of Fame, I mean the Hall of Fame of Purdue. Poor Kyle. Have another beer. Green Bay over Minnesota. I'm still scratching my head. Tarvaris Jackson...in the 2nd round? Really? That guy from Alabama State? Seriously? A 2nd round pick in the national football league? I'm excited to see how Jared Allen does in his new surroundings though. And Aaron Rogers in a game that matters, starting. Good luck pal. Oakland over Denver....Aston Kutcher comes out at half time and tells Mike Shannahan, you've been punked! It is going to be a long season for both of these teams. Expect Denver to have a new coach in 2009. Possibly Lane Kiffin?

Thanks Guys. "The Causeway" I've traveled once and for the life of me I can't remember the I-#. Tzar, its amazing what survives these storms and what doesn't. My family home was built in 59 by my relatives and has withstood all storms since and has never flooded. Its now kept up by my parents and they've been sinking thousands of dollars in renovations and cosmetic advances (like the awning). The people next door flood all the time and live off the government. Well I mentioned the damage to my house. My leeching neighbors, nothing. Maybe some lawn chairs (they considerately didn't pick up anything before evacuating). My dad's sheds seem to survive all the madness everytime too. It's so weird how a place not far from where we live gets devastated and then his hand made shed of plywood and cinder blocks remains. Hard to make sense of it all. I wouldn't buy a camp around the coast, that is for sure. I guess you can get hit over and over by storms and nothing happens but it just takes one.

I figure I'm pretty under the radar around here the last few years, but just in case anyone ever noticed the location in my little profile to the left...well my hometown took a direct freaking hit. I know we have one other poster here 'for sure' with family from there and I don't keep in touch with him, but yeah its not too good. I evacuated my mother and dogs to Memphis. I work emergency services but was ordered to evacuate until Thursday so to "come pick up the pieces and relieve everyone" once the thing passes. My dad had to stay behind, he too is "emergency services" in a different facet but administrative and had to stay. Anyway as soon as the winds stopped he drove to the house and our fence, $3000 new awning, and roof whirly bird (no idea the technical term) all blew away. Anyway, we made out fine with Katrina and Rita....K to the right and R to the right. This, not so much. Driving up listening to local radios through MS and TN all we heard was "well thank God New Orleans is ok" neverminding their thanking still has homes being devastated. "Luckily" we didn't flood so far. There's still the tail end of the thing lashing home so we'll see. Guess I'm just venting. Well if any of you non cynics can throw a few prayers at my region, I'd appreciate it. I'm sure the lower areas of my community have got it worse than my fence, roof, and awning damage. And Bob_Barron, you're right. We had 90% evacuation. I shake my head at those that didn't leave. But it's a different mentality down here with the old school. Some of these people were born "on the bayou" and plan to "die on the bayou" and nothing short physical force is going to get them to go. My buddy that I do videos with at a local fire department in the lower area even said his department was leaving. When the fire department is leaving, you know mess is occurring. Anyway I'll update you guys on local chatter if anyone cares and try to debunk any rumors and such. -Hood

http://sports.yahoo. com/top/news?slug=ap-toogoodtopitch&prov=ap&type=lgns://http://sports.yahoo. com/top/news?s...p&type=lgns 9-year-old boy told he’s too good to pitch By JOHN CHRISTOFFERSEN, Associated Press Writer 10 hours, 1 minute ago NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP)—Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player— too good, it turns out. The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said. Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned. But Vidro says he didn’t quit and the team refuses to disband. Players and parents held a protest at the league’s field on Saturday urging the league to let Jericho pitch. “He’s never hurt any one,” Vidro said. “He’s on target all the time. How can you punish a kid for being too good?” The controversy bothers Jericho, who says he misses pitching. “I feel sad,” he said. “I feel like it’s all my fault nobody could play. ” Jericho’s coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league’s administrators. Jericho instead joined a team sponsored by Will Power Fitness. The team was 8-0 and on its way to the playoffs when Jericho was banned from pitching. “I think it’s discouraging when you’re telling a 9-year-old you’re too good at something,” said his mother, Nicole Scott. “The whole objective in life is to find something you’re good at and stick with it. I’d rather he spend all his time on the baseball field than idolizing someone standing on the street corner. ” League attorney Peter Noble says the only factor in banning Jericho from the mound is his pitches are just too fast. “He is a very skilled player, a very hard thrower,” Noble said. “There are a lot of beginners. This is not a high-powered league. This is a developmental league whose main purpose is to promote the sport. ” Noble acknowledged that Jericho had not beaned any batters in the co-ed league of 8- to 10-year-olds, but say parents expressed safety concerns. “Facing that kind of speed” is frightening for beginning players, Noble said. League officials say they first told Vidro that the boy could not pitch after a game on Aug. 13. Jericho played second base the next game on Aug. 16. But when he took the mound Wednesday, the other team walked off and a forfeit was called. League officials say Jericho’s mother became irate, threatening them and vowing to get the league shut down. “I have never seen behavior of a parent like the behavior Jericho’s mother exhibited Wednesday night,” Noble said. Scott denies threatening any one, but said she did call the police. League officials suggested that Jericho play other positions, or pitch against older players or in a different league. Local attorney John Williams was planning to meet with Jericho’s parents Monday to discuss legal options. “You don’t have to be learned in the law to know in your heart that it’s wrong,” he said. “Now you have to be punished because you excel at something?”

I was the fat kid in right field watching the 6'2 10 year old's home runs going over my head. You just kind of accepted that. He's going to hit a home run off of whatever pitcher you put on the mound. And if you walk him, well, your catcher is getting mauled after he gets done stealing all the bases. We just took it on the chin...and put the reserve catcher in.
-
And on that note I hope Red Stick University scores LESS than 17 points and AE runs for two if possible. No, I'm not against LSU at all or anything My guys have a week 1 bye. Kinda bummed since I'm off work and willing to travel. Oh well. I'm stocking up on snacks to watch the tv.

Jeff Hardy Suffered a Broken Neck on Smackdown?
yankovic fan replied to QuestionMan's topic in The WWE Folder
Yeah the guys around here are pretty much on the ball with this sort of thing. I figure if there isn't 20 posts by now it's probably misinformation. -
I'm probably in the vast minority here, but I really like Notre Dame. I even went to the Sugar Bowl in a sea of LSU fans wearing Notre Dame gear. That said, after last year, they deserve no Top 25 votes until they show something in the first 5-6 games. And by something, I mean total dominance against these foes. And yes, they have to beat Michigan AND Michigan state in this stretch. And Purdue is not a team of slouches either. So, yeah, end mini rant. I also like that Mississippi state got a few votes. They may not deserve it, but I like Sylvester Croom so yay for them. And ouch on Hawaii.

I loved this website! I was always reading their stuff. This and this other site, Smackdown Hotel, had some great great parody stories. The latter also had some great columnists too that I enjoyed reading. Heck I even had a gig there during the last month of their existence...so maybe they had lower standards than I remember? My favorite Scoop This feature was the adventures of the NWO B Team!

You know how every four years we get a story of Vince going after an Olympic wrestler? Is there not a more natural heel than Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian? The guy that threw down his medal. Just a thought.

Cool thanks for clarifying. Funny enough back a few years after the leg injury I dreamed I was starting a fed and I called him. Strange enough in the dream I got his name right too. None of this "uhhh is Psycho Sid there?" Granted that would have made the dream better I guess. I do agree it'd be a great comeback story.
-
Can Sid *really* be booked as a sympathetic feel good story though? I mean it reality it would be a feel good story. But it's Sid Eudy! Who feels sorry for a really huge guy proclaiming to be the Master and Ruler of the world, power bombing people and then giving them a clothesline off a stretcher? Will take some great booking on creative's part, and some good acting on his part to not revert into Psycho mode and play up the crowd sympathies.

Singer, songwriter Isaac Hayes dies at age 65 8 minutes ago MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless "Theme From Shaft" won Academy and Grammy awards, has been found dead at home. He was 65. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office says a family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill on Sunday. He was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. The cause of death was not immediately known. In the early 1970s, Hayes laid the groundwork for disco, for what became known as urban-contemporary music and for romantic crooners like Barry White. And he was rapping before there was rap. His career hit another high in 1997 when he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show "South Park." http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gsCUwiq...1RToZQD92FKRQO0 Very sad news indeed. I posted it under this forum due to his work in Shaft and South Park.

Chad Johnson seeks to legally change his name Emotionally combustible wide receiver Chad Johnson has already made plenty of noise this season. First, he demanded to be traded. Then he caved on his own demands. Then he threatened to bring Dade County on the general populace. Ocho Cinco But now — according to Michael David Smith at PFT — he is going to make everyone remember him and his number 85 forever. And no, he is not getting one of those hip new skull tatts that are all the rage now. Instead, he is going to legally change his name to “Ocho Cinco”. Thank you, Jebus. Well, he might change it. He certainly wants to change it, so he can permanently wear “Ocho Cinco” on his uniform, which, you might recall, the NFL has previously fined him for doing. However, if his real name is “Chad Ocho Cinco” … We’ve learned that Johnson has taken the first steps in the state of Florida toward legally changing his last name to Ocho Cinco. Seriously. If Johnson follows through on this, his actual, legal name will be Chad Ocho Cinco, and the NFL would then (we assume) allow him to put his new last name on the back of his jersey. From a business standpoint, this might be Chad’s way of picking up some of the extra cash that he wants to make but that the team has said it won’t give him. The jersey would instantly become one of the NFL’s top sellers, and NFL players get a cut of all sales of their jerseys. So all that’s really left would be Roger Goodell’s approval. And as we all know, Goodell is a big fan of things that involve fun in any way. It would make a little bit of sense though, because, as MDS pointed out, the NFL would straight rake in jersey sales. But then again, Goodell would be opening up the floodgates to all kinds of crazy jersey and name changes. On the bright side though, we could all finally get those #12 “DIEFARVEDIE” Green Bay Packers jerseys we’ve been wanting for so long.

With Charlie Batch going down for the Steelers, the only depth at QB behind Ben is 2 rookies, Dixon from Oregon and Potts from William and Mary (and he's a Undrafted FA) so I'm wondering what they are going to do. It's not like in Green Bay where they have a 2nd rounder and a 7th rounder backing up Rogers. You have a 5th(?) rounder and a guy from an FCS school undrafted. If I'm just throwing stuff at the wall, since they were late on the Chad Pennington thing, I say they go for one of the leftovers in Atlanta or Miami. Is Leftwich and Culpepper still looking for work?
