WWE General Discussion - February 2008

That's really disappointing to hear. From my understandings, he's been a high point of the current developmental crop. I'm sure his dad can afford the bail. Oh come on like I wasn't the only one lame enough to come up with that.

Of course I'm telling you this like 3 hours before the show starts. This is according to some Idol chat I stumbled across in google news.

    Let's Talk About....WrestleMania IV

Didn't Warrior/Hercules sniff 5 stars? I KID! It was the 6 man tag that sniffed 5 stars with Heenan. I remember renting this when the local supermarket had a fairly decent video rental section with a lot of classic B movies. They had WM IV, an NWA/WCW transition era tape, and one of the Hulkamania tapes of the time. Mom would always let me rent a horror flick or something (wtf?) but never the wrestling. Then one day she must have had a change of heart but she let me rent WMIV. I remember watching the bloody thing in one sitting. It was long but worth it I think. I enjoyed the heck out of it even as a youngster. I now am the proud owner of a VHS copy of it. I tried burning it to DVD for preservation purposes, but it's got copy protection on it that my dvd/vhs thing won't crack. (For the record WM1 and 2 don't have it and I'm yet to track down an original Coliseum WMIII that doesn't appear to cost an arm and a leg. I might just spring for the dvd anthology set. It's still a great piece of work. I was amazed to discover some people don't like it, but I'm a tournament fan by nature.

Assuming hauntings are real... How did ghosts get power before batteries and portable electricity was devised? Did they wait for lightning?

    NYankees

He had a legitimate idea for a thread, I think, but his ideas were so far out there it set the thread off on a bad foot. I found he presented it in a manner to not cause a stir, but when it did, he decided to troll.

    Baseball cards

Holy Beans that's the one I have Thanks for posting it. I find some of the higher end stuff is being priced out of too many budgets. I mean who REALLY wants to pay 400 bucks for a pack of 6 cards? The market exists, obviously, but geez, you just assume buy four hobby boxes of something else and you probably could pull some serious stuff.

SUPERDOME GOSH DARN IT! Ok ok I know. I'm guessing MSG isn't an option for WM 25? Maybe they can revisit WM7's original spot and attempt to fill it up this time?

    Gas Stations

They exist here in the South, pretty standard fare. I dated a girl from a lower income family and her cousin used to go bring the kids to the local gas station to get the 1.25 hot dogs for supper. On a good week they could up grade for the 1.75 chili dogs

    Any Psych fans?

Get the first season DVD set. You will not be disappointed. This season I've been trying like hard, especially since the Christmas special, to watch it, but for some reason I've been unavailable frequently on friday nights and always miss the replays. Sometimes the 'bad guy' is predictable (like the episode where he had a rival 'psychic' with him) but I really enjoy the dynamic between Shawn and Gus. And the way Corbin Bernsen's character interacts with his son, Shawn, reminds me of my life in young adulthood with an old policeman father.

    Baseball cards

I just spent the last three hours going through all of my valuable cards to narrow it down to ten for my first foray into sending things in for grading. I'm sending in: 1970 Topps OJ Simpson Rookie (football) 1984 Topps Dan Marino Rookie (football) 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken F*ck Face card(baseball) 1987 Fleer Barry Bonds Rookie Card(baseball) 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. rookie Card(baseball) 2001 Topps Heritage Jim Brown with piece of Cleveland Stadium (football) 2001 Topps Heritage Michael Vick Rookie (football) 1987 Topps Barry Bonds Rookie(baseball) 1987 Topps Mark McGwire Rookie(baseball) 2004 Sage Beckett Exclusive Ben Roethlisberger (I have 2 but having second thoughts about sending these in for grading due to inability to get accurate value info) (football) 2002 Upper Deck Diamond Connection Bat Around Magglio Ordonez, Tim Salmon, Bobby Abreu, and Shawn Green quad Bat card (not even sure how I got it)(baseball) I'm gonna go with the 45 day service through Beckett. It's my first time so I'm still a bit nervous. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I still have a lot of other stuff that I plan to send in if this experience is satisfactory. We'll see.

    Guitar Hero.

So I've been monitoring the Toys R' Us website since they are the only ones that have had the Wii guitar as a stand alone item with a release date. Since December it has been January 28, 2008. As of this morning it has been changed, again, to February 26, 2008.

    Baseball cards

Thread bumping is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but this post is relevant to the thread. With that stated, I have a very pressing series of questions. How does everyone organize their cards? When I was younger, I kept them by sets but as my set grew and I never really collected a specific set, my collection got VERY disorganized. Then around high school, the girl I was seeing took all my stuff home with her, and organized it all by teams for me. So thats pretty much been my method. The only thing is every now and then I run into trouble. Like what do I do with Houston Oilers? Do I put them in their own binder or do I put them with the Titans? Or maybe the Texans? Same with the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals. And what about REALLY old teams like say the New York Senators (baseball)? And then what about undrafted rookie cards that never made teams? I currently just have a generic binder for rookie cards that I don't know the team that drafted them (if they got drafted). What about cards with different players on them? Checklists? Heck the pharmacy has grab bag cards with a superstar on the front and back sandwiching a bunch of crap like "The greatest football players from the University of Washington!" What do I do with all of that? (aside from the obvious stop buying cards from Walgreens - I learned my lesson) And what do you do with your really valuable cards? I mostly keep anything above 4 bucks in a top loader seperate from my general collection of binders. But some jersey cards and the like are too thick for a top loader. What should I do then? HELP!!!!

    The College Football Thread 12/31 - 1/6

Anyone else notice when the camera zoomed in on JR there was a pause by the announcers before one of them finally commented on him standing there. As if they didn't recognize him and someone had to feed them the line to say something.

How did you find out that wrestling was not "real"?

My dad used to scream at me for watching "that fake shit" every monday night. Seriously having interests that weren't his is basically a major crime in his eyes. I was a rebel (YEAH!) and watched anyway, ignoring him since he pretty much condemned anything that wasn't his interest, and I figured he was just doing the same thing. I argued with him "If it's fake why would they ruin a ring with Bererker driving his sword through the mat trying to kill the undertaker!? Them things costs hundreds of thousands of dollars!!!" Eventually I dated a girl who was related to a local indy guy and he pretty much set me straight. Plus seeing a live 'rec center' match and all the missed punches didn't help. But yes all of those "ITS FAKE" types need to go play in traffic.

See if you can locate a place called "The Hobbit" about 10-15 minutes from the Galleria. It's LOTR themed with the best burger I've had in a while.
