It's too bad to hear about Kreski, and he was certainly better than any of the current writers. However, 2000 was not the Fed's best year. That would be either 1998 or 1999. To be honest, when under Vince's supervision: Russo >>> Kreski

I wouldn't mind a decent-sized reign, as long as they didn't present him as a fighting champion. If he had one or two title defenses a month, he could make it work for a while, but I don't think they'd want to have him hold it for more than a couple months. Actually, if they're going to get behind a high-flyer, they should probably look into a returning Rob Van Dam first. Just because he was getting stale when he left doesn't mean that he couldn't be hot on his return and motivated if he got a decent push.
-
Come on now. 2002 wasn't that long ago. When he was feuding with Kurt Angle, he was in a **** match every other week.
-
Too late. I told everyone it was happening two hours ago.
-
One more thing, for the record. Even though I think Edge is winning the tourney, I'd be more than happy to be wrong if it means the "Sexy Boy" is getting a title shot. HBK's the man.
-
I said an IC-level push. I was just saying I'd like them to make Dean credible enough that he'd be able to challenge Benjamin at a PPV. I wasn't saying he actually deserves to get the belt. And BTW, I like the Cena video. I was afraid that he'd take himself too seriously, but it's actually really funny.

I have to say, I like Simon Dean. I'd like to see an IC level push for him.

C'mon. Lita helps Benoit win in the semis despite not really liking him. Edge has more heel heat than he's had in his life, just from the Lita situation. We all know where it's going.
-
Does anyone else think there's a 90% chance that Lita's going to cost Kane the tournament when he faces Edge in the finals? That backstage skit kinda makes me think they're headed that way.
-
C'mon. Where's the board's collective orgasm? I've heard for months that the show is unwatchable unless HHH leaves. Well, he's leaving! Sure it's only for a few weeks, but shouldn't it make you happy?
-
Honestly, if you ask me, I'd say that the reason that HHH is main eventing again is that they don't trust Edge to main event a PPV, and they're waiting for Orton to get healthy to move HHH out of the top heel slot. Although after that whole "Money in the Bank" thing, you'd think that Edge should get some credit. Really, him getting "screwed" out of the title shot and going to Smackdown is the only way I can really see the storyline ending.
-
Somewhere down the line, when HHH is actually on his 16th or 17th run, it might make a cute storyline for HHH's real face opponent to cost him a title match against Flair, if they did it something like Vince's run back in 2000. As far as Flair getting a real, competitive title run though? Absolutely not, no way, and never.

I say two weeks, just because it bores the shit out of me personally.

There's enough predictions here that I doubt many people will read through all of them, but I'll throw mine in just for my own edification: Pistons over Pacers in 7 Yes, the Pistons are a lot more talented than the Pacers, but I think Indiana will do a good job of holding their home court, and they should make the series closer than it deserves to be. Heat over Wizards in 4 The Wizards have no answer for Shaq, no answer for Dwayne Wade, and a propensity to choke in tough situations. Easy series to pick here. Spurs over Sonics in 5 The Sonics have had a nice year, but they're just not at the same level as San Antonio. Experience plus an increasingly healthy Tim Duncan should make it impossible for Seattle to compete. Mavericks over Suns in 7 This is going to be a tough series, and it could definitely go either way, but if Dallas plays like they did in Game 7 against Houston they'll get the job done. Playoff experience is probably more crucial in the NBA than in any other sport, and it will likely make all the differnce here over the course of a long series.
-
Just thought I'd bring this up here. Everyone was ready to leave the Mavericks for dead when they were down 2-0, but deep down, I just knew they were coming back. The Mavericks are a solid goddamn basketball team, and if they play the way they played tonight, they'll beat Phoenix too. I'm usually not that cocky of a guy, but when you make a big public statement that something will happen that's only happened once before in history, it's just fun to say "I told you so".

I don't usually do this type of stuff
iggymcfly replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in The WWE Folder
Well, I don't watch Smackdown at all any more, so that may have something to do with it, but I really didn't find that funny at all. Like not even remotely. -
I just want to say that the double episodes tonight have been orgasmically awesome. These characters that have been one-dimensional for two-thirds of the season are finally getting fleshed out again. It's not over yet, so I can't go on too far, but I'm absolutely loving this.

My experiences don't agree with MikeSC's at all. I'd say that maybe 10 or 15 percent of the people I know who smoke weed fit the stereotypical stoner mold. I certainly do know those kind of people, and I can't stand them, but to say that everyone who smokes weed acts like that is ridiculous. Most people I know who smoke weed just use it the same way they would alcohol. It's something to do on the weekend when you're bored. And I certainly haven't found them to be any less intelligent than people who don't smoke. I never got real into weed, and I've probably only smoked like three times all year right now. But still, to see it as anything more than a semi-fun activity is silly. Just because only stoner types smoked at your school in SC doesn't mean the whole world works that way.

I still have yet to see a good argument against legalization. The fact is that marijuana is a drug that is neither harmful nor addictive. As a result, if the number of users rose, (and it wouldn't to any significant degree), it wouldn't be a problem anyway. Now, for the reasons to legalize it: The heart of the argument is that by making it illegal, you are punishing people with fines and jail time who are not infringing on the rights of others or hurting society. These people should have the right to do what they want to their own bodies as long as it doesn't bother anyone else. The argument that the state has to pay for them doesn't even hold any water in this case, because the effects of the drug are so few. Marijuana has no physically addictive properties, and even if someone uses it every day, they are perfectly capable of holding down a job, supporting themselves, an contributing to society. Second, there is the gateway drug argument. This is often incorrectly applied in reverse, with the idea that if they "stop" people from using marijuana, they will not use other drugs. However, in reality, the fact that marijuana is illegal stops very few people from using it. Rather, it just crosses the mental block of "using an illegal drug" and also gets normal citizens acquainted with drug dealers. If people could buy a 20 sack of weed at the corner drug store, a very large portion of the population would have no need for drug dealers whatsoever, and would be much less likely to try hard drugs later on. Finally, there is the cost to taxpayers that the "drug war" causes. The fact is that even though marijuana use does not infringe on anyone's rights, stopping it still uses up an extremely large portion of police resources. When you add on court costs, and the cost to imprison dealers, and repeat offenders, the "drug war" diverts a large portion of taxpayer money that could be used to pay off the deficit or simply not taken from taxpayers to begin with. Also, if marijuana was sold with a direct tax, similar to those on cigarettes and alcohol, rather than the indirect tax in raising the prices through the difficulty in transporting it, the substance could cause a nice tax revenue on its own.

Damn right. Giving Hogan the belt will just halt the progress of up and coming stars like Triple H and Bradshaw. I don't care that much if "new, young talent" is getting pushed, but if you have a champion who is barely able to walk across the ring, and would break a hip instantly if he got in a real fight, it makes the show unwatchable. And for the record, I have only watched Smackdown for a total of about 30 or 40 minutes since JBL won the title, so that doesn't work for me either. If Lesnar came back or Angle won the title, I might start watching again, but I'm a little fussy about boring midcarders holding the belt too.

I'm tempted to go with the "free Anglesault" thing, as I am kinda curious how he's reacting to the Yankees' meltdown, BUT............ I'm actually enjoying posting in the baseball thread right now. It's usually thoughtful balanced discussion, and it's one of the best threads on the boards altogether. I really don't think I could take reading through ten pages of bitching about the Yankees just to get to that. So with that said: Fuck Anglesault. Never let him back.

Roger Clemens still only has one win for me, despite his 1.29 ERA. Today's line in the no decision: 7 IP 4 H 2 R 2 ER 8 K And to make matters worse, it was against the friggin' Pirates. I mean, I thought if the Astros could ever get a win for him they'd do it against the Pirates, but I guess not. One more interesting note on Clemens' lack of run support: His only win this year was the season opener when the Astros won 3-2, and Clemens drove in 2 of the runs himself. When you're your own best hope to drive in runs as a pitcher, you know you're in bad shape.

What kind of talk is that? From the O's avatar I'd assume you're from the area? Not a Wiz fan? Nah, I'm from Montana, so I just kind of pick my teams from all over. The Orioles are definitely my favorite baseball team, if not my favorite franchise in all of sports, but as far as basketball goes, I'm a Mavs fan.

How come no one's mentioned that this news came from "pwbts.com"? I've never even heard of that site. I'd say there's about an 90% chance that this was made up. I mean, "the locker room was tense when Vince was there", "the WWE's happy about the ratings and the WM buyrate", "Christian's expected to go to Smackdown". This is just textbook, as far as the kind of news you'd make up if you had no idea whatsoever what was really happening backstage.

Well, so much for that. It would have been nice to see the Bulls finish off the comeback, or at least send it to OT, but I guess Arenas wasn't going to let that happen.
